  1. Certainly was. His "small" 20cm friend was up there in the family stakes as well. Really cool fish and my sister was gutted when she lost them.
  2. After using it in my sisters ginormous tank we discovered that Ammolock is really good for: * Nothing * Killing 25cm clown loaches * Killing Black Ghost Knives we will never have another bottle in the house. We were getting really high ammonia readings using the test kits and no matter how many water changes we were doing the readings were off the chart. After being sold the ammolock by the LFS, she treated the tank and woke up to dead fish the next morning. Turns out the readings she was getting were ammonium NOT ammonia but the test kits are unable to differentiate between the two.
  3. Who is Juju? Sounds like a nasty piece of work
  4. I tell you no lies, I had that line used on me in the Helensville Pub, but instead of Irish, it was Maori
  5. doesnt matter if it was written or not. Its known as a gentlemens agreement. A handshake is just as binding as a contract. I would seriously dispute the additional charges if he cannot substantiate them!
  6. Hopefully they will steer clear, they have 2 HUGE pieces of driftwood in there. Thanks Whetu, I have PM'd you
  7. Hiya My sister has sold the last of her big plant destroying cichlids (I hope they are behaving Burgo!) and can now set her 8.5ft up to be a planted community tank. Lots of Bristles, clown loaches, some jewel cichlids, a couple of Ghost knives and a synodontis, hopefully none of which will munch on plants but the question is, what sort of plants are going to be best in there? She is running an FX5 so there is a decent amount of current. Does anyone have any recommendations and the next question will be............ Do you have any for sale? Thanks all.
  8. This would be my only thought process. I am an underwriter for an Insurance company and whilst we would really only be concerned about this sort of thing from a risk perspective I cant see how it would matter for a private individual. Accumulation would concern us when we are talking about lots of 0's on the sum Insured. from the photo, it is a concrete garage and would not therefore present any great risk. Just tell him to get off his shetland pony and go pull someone elses string!
  9. i was in a store in Hamilton on sunday for "the sale" and a tail-less and somewhat half eaten red jewel was being feasted on by others in the tank. Problem was, the poor thing was still alive albeit barely!! I suggested to the retail assistant that she may want to take it out of the tank and put it out of its misery. Her response was "oo, but thats so cruel, I could never bring myself to do that. At least we wont have to feed them tonight" Disgusting!! The tetra doesnt sound much better. I have no idea what it could be.

  11. :bounce: :bounce: What a gorgeous tank. What is the recipe you two mentioned? My poor fish just have to cope with what comes out of the tap. They are happy enough but Im sure they could be happier.
  12. do you have them in your tanks feedingfrenzy?
  13. I just like to play with their minds and rearrange their tank on a regular basis  I do however have to make sure that the small mussel shell is always accessible for the Giraffe to play with. More often than not, he will be doing laps around the tank carrying HIS shell
  14. haha, you are more than welcome. Will you be spending ANY time in the house once its set up?
  15. Burgo will be using it as a sump pump. I dropped the tank off to him on the weekend
  16. There is never a right situation for a dog to be killing cats. They may have the "chase" instinct but it is up to the responsible owner to keep that controlled. There is absolutely no reason that cats and dogs cannot live under the same roof. We have 3 border collies and 4 cats and NEVER had an incident. Even the puppies realise and respect the boundaries.

    Gill flukes

I know this has probably been done to death somewhere in another thread BUT............ Can someone give me a step by step guide on what I should be looking for and what is a tried and true method of getting rid of them. I am assuming that a few of mine are not happy campers as there is an awful lot of flashing going on. Nobody has clamped fins or gills or any other clampable parts but I know its not good when someone is skating along the gravel and ornaments all the time
  18. Nah............. They prefer to be in groups of 18 or more And if you sold them to me they would be blissfully happy 8) Conveniently, I happen to have 12 already, hehehe
  19. We flew a pup down to Wanganui to his new owners. It was really cheap, about $75 if I remember rightly. Or there is a pet courier who drives the country dropping off and picking up rehomers. Just a thought
  20. haha, Im kinda disappointed as well, not that it came off but that they attacked it with a screwdriver with less finesse than I did Its okay, my yellows dont laugh anymore. If they look like they are about to, I just tape a picture of a toilet bowl to the tank
  21. HFF in Albany approached my dilemma with a great deal of decorum and finesse.................... A WHOPPING GREAT SCREWDRIVER  There was a fair bit of grunting and shoving and the odd bit of heaving (yes I am still talking about the filter lid and not the mosh pit at the local rave  ) but the lid came off. YAY
  22. You charmer you Happy birthday Gran
