  1. it is amazing what a little bit of basking heat does for them.
  2. its human nature to be competitive........as far as im aware the comp is suppose to be anonymous. I agree its hardly a serious matter , but going out publishing the same photos then asking people to come here and vote is taking the competition too far. jmo why cant we all focus on the postives, im getting tired of the silly stiring that seems to go on around here. amazing how good life is if you just think about the postive side of things........like a chicken roll for brunch mmmmhmm my day just got better
  3. photos in the comp seem to have numbers not names beside them for a reason......call me mr obvious
  4. it has air holes and although most will sink in time some dont. I tried this stuff in a sump and everytime i flooded the place i ended up with the lil balls everywhere. meant to sit in pots with the substrate/balls at the surface, not really under the water. its also full of dust when you get it so needs a good rinse...and it still may leech out (terracota colour) fine dust if when it gets disturbed.
  5. my guess, southern bell...unless they came from the upper north island.
  6. if it has glass doors, another possibility is to get them cut down and put in a mesh vent along the top, shouldnt be too hard to do.
  7. bell frog of some sort most likely. how long is it, where did you find it?
  8. forget vitamin turtles, use calcium blocks if anything. cuttle fish bones also good for a bit of calcium..... basking lights as per Donna's pic. Can get a clip on desk lamp for around 10-25bux depending where you shop 60watt household bulb should be plenty. pic would be helpful p.s nice loking turtles Donna, a female reeves to by the looks
  9. more vents, lower wattage basking bulb and or maybe even a thermostat wired to it. if room gets too hot though then none of the above will do much. if eyes appear sunken in give shallow warm bath imediately. as likely dehydrated. Over 45C for to long is not good. 40 is a good basking temp to aim for, that gives a little room for the hot days. (if using a thermostat then temps should be constant unless the room gets over 40C ) by that time the bds boucning of the walls doing cartwheels
  10. i use in similar sized setups one double 2' batten holder. with only one uv tube and 1 daylight soley to add more light. other setup just one 4' uv tube then every warm day put the bds outside for some sun, cant beat it. Just make sure they can get away from direct sun if they need to/get to hot. uv tubes/bulbs "seem" to be getting better all the time. I wouldnt mind trying something different.
  11. Nice one, thats good to know. one of mine is brumating the other eating like a horse. Should be interesting to compare the 2 over the next year. Before one went into brumation. They were amost within a cm of each other in size. Now mr stay awake is bigger but will it stay that way......time will tell They tend to come out of brumation full of life, gota be good for them
  12. they do have such patience when it comes to a stare off  scratching much?, one of mine from that clutch is brumating atm
  13. may do a roast cricket for lunch...otherwise just soldier on here. Bring on the new year
  14. i just put my bds in the naughty corner....do a few head bobs and they know i mean biz

  16. nice frogs, i look forward to visiting one of these years
  17. awesome, I dont suppose you have a pic handy that your willing to share?
  18. I wouldnt put her in the tank for a few more weeks yet anyway  on a more serious note though congrats
  19. Wont catch me near one. Just another thing our bodies probably dont need. Those "natural" products may or may not be harmful to us. but if it kills bugs. Then you have to wonder.
  20. looking good, are they messy eaters and or in general? what goes in must come out
