  1. aha tht would make sense been another variety. thanks i may take you up on that at some stage, probably got enough plants in there for today though
  2. ok heres the whistlers setup (i tried abreviate whisting tree frog  ). shes a bit busy as im just experimenting with the plants for now. may even go all out and add some substrate one of these days anyone know what this is (was sold with a "spider plant" label -Chlorophytum-) but doesnt look like the common spider plant i see around...or maybe this is just a young plant and hasnt got mature foliage yet?
  3. sure is, someone knows there plants not sure how well it will do with the bell frogs sitting/jumping onit but so far looks ok.
  4. good to know theres hope yet heres a southern bell getting a tannin
  5. nice frogs livingart...albino is looking very good
  6. with the passion of breeding comes the passion for quality. some very good ideas throughout the thread
  7. yep think so. been out for some frog spotting have we
  8. obviously they cross paths, but do they actually occupy the same habitats and do ok? I wouldnt of thought so but maybe they can...
  9. i see this in one of my turtle tanks but never the other :-? pretty cool feature to any tank 8) would just doing more water changes on that tank get rid of it? id like to find the cause rather than dose for an unballance
  10. if you have both in there thats very interesting, i wonder if/how frequent the two species share habitats ......... maybe the bells are just moving in to enjoy the menu
  11. its pretty small...or Mr Mcfish has really big hands lol my adult whislters look to be about double that size..
  12. thanks and yep you sure can must be a whistler Mr Mcfish. thinking about the size. nice frogs u must hear them at night? high pitched similar to crickets but louder
  13. ummm good question looks like a whistler but the green is interesting...more like what i would expect golden bell/southern bells to look like. but i would of thought the bell frogs would be bigger even at that stage? anyone else know
  14. looking good, when does swimming with the monster fish open
  15. maybe in a few weeks, only just setup/re-setup so theyre still a work in progress  the southerns were sent to me as golden bells ....i havent made my mind up where theyre to go just yet anyone else with pics to share please do
  16. yea can look very similar. best way to tell about i find is the stripe down the back of the southerns. (top photo) golden bells may have lines/pattens on there back but looks more like camo. (like frog above trying to blend on pipe/wood. goldens also have smoother skin in general and there call is different, but they dont mind what call i rip out
  17. Thanks Nick, they do seem to like the duckweed, sucks up nutrients to but the best thing ive found about duckweed lately is if you have a good layer in a frog tank (azolla is better) the livefood walks all over it so less drowning. cool to watch the frogs dive straight at them on duckweed to Mr Mcfish... i would love to see some pics. In Levin, foxton, waitarere beach etc ive only ever seen/heard of southern bells present. You may have the golden bells though, would be nice to know if you do thats for sure.
  18. the bell frogs i find change colour to suit environment. sometimes mood maybe. or maybe u have a southern bell, theyre often more brown/green with green stripe down the back. If you can make a mesh lid to fit the top it will be better, then sit something like an exo terra shade/heat lamp on top at one end. They maybe ok without basking bulb. Im no expert but i think theyre better off with one.
  19. and this southern bell thinks if he ducks under the water i cant see him   those hands look dirty.....probably a male
  20. thanks, not sure to be honest. cant say ive seen one of those tanks in person. what sorta of lid/ventilation on top? if the top was majority fly screen mesh you should be ok. could diy? if moisture is a problem in there i wouldnt want to put bell frogs in as they need a basking light which (not sure about southern bells but mine like to bask) may create more moisture in the air. whistlers would be all good as i dont think they need a basking light (could be wrong), and cool water. can make a nice display with whistlers as theyre not so rough on plants and been small can have a couple more frogs in the tank.
  21. a couple of my favourite lil frogs male whistling tree frog pretty sure this is the female
  22. Southern bell frog golden bell frog golden bell frog trying to blend into black pipe and driftwood?
  23. should turn up some interesting stuff arnt some native bugs protected though?
