  1. Res. I have noticed eggs expand before but nothing like this. I candled them last night and all appear to have nice red veins.
  2. in regards to viability. out of split over albino, most spawns were fertile, some only partial and a few with no viable eggs. the biggest problem here is tadpoles developing (splits were similar but nothing at all compared to the extent the albinos get) scoliosis (bent backs etc). of all albino tadpoles produced less than 3% have made it to the frog stage looking normal. i do have one male that looks to be the full quid, once a bit bigger will spawn back to original albinos. will also spawn over split and see what that produces, may get some females? Also have access to a young female frog that appears to be of another line, was wild caught and is not so vibrant yellow. so call it simple genetics or what ever anyone wants, but they are proving to be a challenge here. it will no doubt take some time to produce any number of quality frogs but not all is lost it is just going to take time.

    catfish

could put some turtles in there, would be a good place to educate people about the proper care
  4. one in another clutch was round and smaller than normal when dug up. this lot didnt look out of the ordinary until i checked them tonight (couple of weeks after going into the incubator). top right egg is laying flat.....
  5. yeah well i thought it worked like that too but it does not seem to be the case with these frogs which is why these frogs are going to be researched in depth in good time
  6. had my first pair of splits spawn this week as it happens, all eggs normal, all tadpoles normal colour. will try for a couple more spawns to confirm but that single result seems consistent with the result you've had. split back to albino is producing a small % (guesstimate around 25%) here. so it would seem they carry the trait but it doesnt seem as straight forward as once thought.
  7. Never bred split to normal. normal to albino = normal looking progeny split for albino?
  8. axanthic (axanthism)- blue frog, opposite of xanthic (xanthochromism) - yellow frog...
  9. if split x split is not producing albinos at all. yet split x albino is producing a small percent albino, and if all albinos produced are male.... what would you make of that?
  10. Thats all good, but "FUSH AND CHUPS" is pretty good too
  11. you could listen to both, its like a surround sound effect
  12. went back with the camera today http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COXGe6MRW_Y (bit out of focus but the sounds is good )
  13. bit like living off the share market
  14. i just pulled the rocks away from around the hole, it wasn't in a big solid rock or anything thankfully. No more grass for that koura Got the spider out too, was a bit surprised to see a koura and a good sized spider sharing a cave.
  15. i thought it was 15 for some reason 3-5years underground is still impressive huh
  16. what sort of mark on head? he looked good when he left here
  17. Sweet pics, nice to see so many Koura and shrimp together. Koura and shrimp seem much more resilient especially towards high temp compared to that of native fish....(in my brief experience anyway) I was looking for a water spider the other week, was poking a bit of grass in a hole (as you do) on the waters edge that i had seen a big spider go in. Anyway put grass in and something grabbed it, so i pulled it and out came a koura....pincer , silly thing held on so hard i ripped it clean off. the Koura is now in my tank and looking ok considering the limb missing
  18. thats pretty much usual (maybe a bit excessive) marking/scaring for females after mating attempts but if thats the male then you really should have separated them at first sign of that. The one causing bite marks is likely a male...
  19. I dont recall ever seeing as many cicadas as I have this year. The noise is deafning up at the river its almost unreal but still does your head in after a while  . Counted 18 cicada in one coprosma bush . There also seems to be heaps of the white butterflies around. Good season for certain bugs so it would seem. Anyone else noticing the same in your area?
