  1. this was that fungus the next day. misty tank 8)
  2. just had the mean flicker of lights and what not here. fingers crossed it stays on
  3. wouldnt bother using uv with whistlers (being nocturnal), wouldnt hurt having a low uv output bulb for bell frogs. flies ok but not the best. try get some locusts, crickets, moths, slaters etc into the diet. only need a little bit of water (1/3 or less). keep clean. have seen many set ups with way too much water, simply not needed and just reduces areas for the frogs to forage. substrate can be much the same as fish tanks. i use daltons propagating sand a lot (with a few river stones to bulk it out/create depth/land areas etc). and or river sand. i do try cover the substrate in javamoss/xmas moss to get a lawn effect also lessening the chance of the frogs eating the substrate.
  4. see these pop up in my frog tanks occassionally. first 3 pics taken this morning. last two this evening (noticeable size increase) they only last a couple of days or so. fast growth
  5. i picked up a small stihl chainsaw for around 2-300 on tm about 3/4years ago. had it in the shop for a service last year. apparently its 20years old. still goes hard. all round is a much better saw compared to the big McCulloch i use to have.
  6. more likely to come out for cat food as oppose to crickets imo as long as doors are kept shut it should still be there. probably curled up under a couch or something.
  7. over the last few months ive been hand feeding more and this albino often launches at my hand in anticipation. it didnt surprise me she would try eat my finger.
  8. Ive been wondering where that noise was coming from. Hmmm so theyre eating my live food ... out they go ... to another tank Such neat critters. They seem surprisingly hardy too.
  9. should add some crickets to your tank  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjshEYS_W6o the cricket is still riding around on the backswimmer now (atleast 10mins later) edit: is that how they eat? another backswimmer appears to have a fruit fly on its back.
  10. Welcome. I like the tank layout, and the blue light
  11. 1st - Ford 8) Great day for the young kiwi.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGPOA5AJIKk are the red things mites?
  13. brumat* with the astrix (*) on the end will search for any word starting with brumat. ie, brumation, brumate, brumated, brumation and so on.
  14. worth reading this book http://www.trademe.co.nz/Pets-animals/R ... 297588.htm use search up top, put in brumat* (that will search brumating, brumation, brumated etc) brumation has been discussed before
  15. Ive just noticed red mite like things on some backswimmers here. Have you used a usb microscope? They look perfect for close up photos
  16. i cut back on feeding my two geckos recently, then i had one go all pale for a couple of days (id never seen this before). gave it a decent feed of crickets, dampened the sphagnum moss (moist hide) and he was back to nice vibrant colours the next day. so i assume hes shed. amazing how much a little gacko can eat
  17. true, i might just try that. cheers. i may even have a roll of weedmat here somewhere. what sort of weedmat are you thinking, platicy stuff or fabric one? used on gardens to suppress weeds...
  18. Any ideas on how to grow xmas moss on the glass sides of a frog tank? Im thinking along the lines of fixing plastic mesh or maybe even shadecloth to thwe glass. then try and get the moss to attach and grow up that. Or should i just stop being lazy and make a polystyrene background. glue on some peat and grow moss on that.
