  1. Its complex the aggression thing, females can act just like males i rekon ie head bobbin, black beard, staunch out other females etc one of my females took 2/3 of my males tail off . both can be ok 1 day then not the next or possibly happy forever and a day but theres always a risk so not worth it imo (always will be exceptions) Since seperating mine they generally seem more laxd/happy if thats possible lol Having them seperated takes stress of females and really keeps the male keen to breed he only nds to see a female to get the head bobbin haha gta give him credit for trying  also easier to monitor each lizards food intake etc
  2. I found these great but best to soak in cup/jug etc of aquarium water first for say 5-10mins swirl around abit then can poor into tank dunno why but i rekon fish like them better like tht lol congrats on the lil cories to theyre neat fish
  3. nice, do you feed livefood in seperate container? reason i ask is must be hard for bds to catch em all b4 they hide amongst the decorations lol those compact fluros are apparintly bad for reptiles eyes, and id almost put money onit same goes for humans and all those energy saving bulbs - give it time  and yea should really be housed seperate, possibly get away with young bds and females when older but it only takes 1 good bite and 1 of the bds no longer has a nice long tail, or toes, worse case dead they dont need a mate like most think, the only mate it needs is a quicky at the beginning of breeding season not all its life
  4. 1. not really, they should be housed seperate imo 2. yea fine with kids theyre really placid, i sit one on my shoulder when outside feeding turtles  3. anythings possible  4. pref 6wks+ 5. you can decide one get one lol 6. $500 for young (around over summer/soon/now?) cool pets, ive always liked turtles but these take the cake for me :bounce:
  5. its actually really good food for turtles, goldfish possibly some other fish, apple snails etc but for turtles its perfect as a permanenet food to have on offer, also great for hatchlings azolla is like a bigger duckweed and is also good for bigger turtles/ponds etc  wana buy some lol jj
  6. cool thanks for sharing theyre like the little hidden treasures of nz :bounce:
  7. Any advice on using bbs for baby newts mainly but axies to i want something more readily available as daphnia cultures seem to fluctuate would they need a good rinse before feeding to make sure no salt residue etc? tia
  8. ah classic and completely normal if you ask me
  9. I to am pondering what to feed my snakenecks atm, Ive just come in from feeding them some large crickets they went down with a smile never thought to try them before lol worms or snails are other garden goodies. I use ox heart (beef heart same dif) but need to vary things up so i to would be keen to hear what else ppl are feeding them to been meaning to get some shrimp to try, othawise fish fish and fish lol guppies, goldfish, aquarium snails are all good lol hot house frozen turtle food availble at most shops is good to - or is this the stuff you are meaning thats no longer going to be sold??
  10. yea about 30C & upto 35C, some bds may prefer hotter/cooler (id geuss whatever your setup temp is should be all good for the water to) hatchlings - be extra cautious, shallow water bowl to start wit maybe? ive never really had bds under 6-8weeks old so i duno misting maybe best when young, try dripn water into a water bowl to get bds attention otherwise standing water doesnt mean much to some bds eagle eye dont over do the water thing though less is prob best, especially in there enclosure you want to kp that dry :bounce:
  11. Seem to, if dehydrated come bath time they often drink the water, ive been bathing em in shallow plastic dish in sun l8tly and they almost go to sleep init, and yip some put there head under the water, always puzzles me its like they forget to breathe lol but yea theyre good swimmers to given the chance, i put them in my indoor turtle pond thing and they bask then jump in the water have a splash then out they come in the wild id geuss most of the moisture needed would come through eating greens, dew off plants morning an night and possibly sittting in puddles but dont quote me on tht. water normally stimulates them to go number 2's aswell
  12. I try bathe mine weekly with water temp around 90 F used to mist them (mainly when young) but bathing them works well they actually take to water rather well  p.s i always try do it before 2-3pm so they have a good chance to dry of before lights out lol
  13. looks like Amazonian's got clear gromets? you can get black rubber gromets of varying sizes from most hyrdoponic shops possible rural supplies like farmlands, anyone that sells irrigation should stock them etc I got some from otaki hydroponic shop for my old setup, they make things nice and tidy
  14. Have you got a backing on the tank, like those picture backing things? should prevent abit of the sun if you havent got one on already. if it was me id peg a towel up lol otherwise more waterchanges some plants maybe? duckweed helps use up nutrients and restricts light getting into tank, fish may eat it and if so its a good food source , indian ferns another easy to grow floating plant which does the same sorta thing (sucks up nutrients and blocks light) and is easier to control (kribs may eat plants I cant remember). otherwise less fish food/dnt over feed and minimise the sun, sit back and have a tui, bonza
  15. Oh how cool and yea always the way no camera for that priceless moment. is there any other reptiles or amphibians at Nga Manu? (been meaning to go for a visit for ages)
  16. tradme buynow hope to recieve this week maybe
  17. little gems shame about the price  http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 054170.htm
  18. be interesting to see if anyone else has seen or knows more as id never seen this before. . maybe they eat there skin/shedding afterwards as i see my newts love eating there skin as fast as it comes off lol
  19. not sure how often but yes they do, ive got 3 litoria aurea and noticed one shedding a couple of weeks ago (tried film it but had no memory card in camera  ) and also noticed what appeared to be another frogs skin in the water so maybe they do shed at the same time but probably just as they grow
  20. I see on nz post site one of the few things your allowd to send is harmless insects and "silkworms". I didnt think we had them in nz, i think theyre used overseas for reptile food anyone else know anything bout them? waxworms seem to leave a silk like string behind them to but im pretty sure theyre differant
