  1. interesting thanks for sharing tht, ive been meaning to plant some carrots as the tops make good greens for lizards to apparintly, maybe i can store in fish tank and just feed out as needed lol maybe not
  2. livingart thats a great setup is that treated timber then painted with polyurethane for frame work? DonnaM's - nice setup to i like the mesh idea to aid them climbing out of the water I learnt somthing new today
  3. yes but depends on what your point is?
  4. cheers Afrikan  dad - youngest of my bds still seems to be colouring up hes definately still growing - from red and yellow breeding - the rest of these are all from a differant breeder to the above (yellow) mother (yellow) sister of mother (above) with her dark face on (normally yellow ) below -this is from same clutch/breeder to the above females - was taken last summer and hasnt been anything like this orange again but i find it interesting it seems my bds all go from darkish (possibly if stressed?) colour like above through to a really nice yellow... some times orange in there like; and this is brother (posibly that orange one but id call him yellow and a very nice one at that, on a good day ) to all above except the male up top. pics arnt the best ill ave to upload more to photbucket when i get some time to sort though my photo maze lol otherwise these and a couple others cn be seen here
  5. anyone know if your aloud to keep wetas, i thought they were protected as theyre native arnt they and probably not too many left? i see someone on tm selling garden spiders lol
  6. i thought the same thing today when dusting some  bds do seem to love them and i havent seen any ill effects, they great for beefn up axoltls and frogs to.. i use to harvest the mealies then put in a container with blended up fish food food cat and or dog biscuits and maybe some vitamin powder and leave in this atleast overnight before feeding out. Once i used those red and green fish pellets and some of the mealies went red/pink lol but point been if insects are fed a higher protein and or a good quality food then should pass onto the the bds/predator. it all helps but even on there own they seem good as, not that ive done the taste test lol!
  7. unique - because you cant disclose who bred them?
  8. yep and when u get a male you can get double the eggs
  9. yea its funny like tht, ive never seen it actually grow in my tanks but out in troughs its better but still dies off but not completely if your lucky
  10. azolla? one of the smallest fern in the country if not the smallest, it goes from green to deep rep-purple depending on nutrient uptake great plant but i havent had much luck growing it in an aquarium (not tht ive tried tht hard but it def doesnt take over tanks like lemna/duckweed), does well outdoors but doesnt like frosts and i have a fealing it dies off in tropical tanks but could be wrong, great plant though my turtles can eat half a bucket of the stuff in a day or 2
  11. mealworms hard to digest - id say yes but depends theyre easier to digest if theyve just shed - the white/soft ones also whats eating the mealworms? i know with my beardies they love them but can get really messy poo after mealworms but that could be just because they like them so much they eat too many alot of info ive read does say chitin (sp?)/outer shell of mealworms is hard to digest and that mealworms have little nutritional value, each to there own. mealworms sure are handy and relatively easy to culture
  12. Lol the secret is you tell the "missus" its hers then u can always get her to do some of the work If she doesnt like them then be offended but dnt get rid of the lizards.........................maybe thats why im single haha female - yellow male - yellow (hoping he will colour up some more as still sorta young and from red and yellow parents), babies prob be more yellow but hopefully some red colour in there  will put some pics up soon awesome its always exciting times getting new tanks/reptile/s etc theyl love them no doubt and seems theyre breeding a plenty so timings good, thankyou kindly
  13. wow took me 20 mins to do that last post  (tv distraction) thats an awesome setup to bulldogod get me thinking
  14. livingart - great setup looks rather professional did you get builders in or just good old diy?
  15. be handy if someone on the forum gets tht job, they can post pics for us all day
  16. must mean 5-6 inch as theyre longer than 5-6cm when first hatch?
  17. there was one brown egg which i put to the side as it lookd dead but sure enough shes alive just one of the last to show face, or maybe thats a red one haha more likely just dirt unreal it still hasnt sunk in, geuss it will when they start eating like little monsters
  18. makes sence i'd never put much thought into the inbreeding side of things it seem like my bds were babies them selves only the other day (time flies), anyway now im in for some trouble i can see it now but all part of it and yea its truely priceless seeing that first one's head just poping out of the egg..... it was a looong day waiting for that first one to actually get rite out of the egg, others seem to be out in a flash. it sux in some ways how the reptile hobby is all abit hush hush (security concious, even breeders & fair enough in some respect) but it does make it hard when it comes to pairing up unrelated reptiles or even trying to get on wainting lists to obtain, and even then get ya lotto tickets and hope for better days, in some cases atleast
  19. fully they grow up so quick its really neat seeing babies again :bounce: as it happens its 1 of yours x'd with one from Sim- often wundered if they close rallys to yours? suppose to have/be red but they look similar to the bds i got from you i rekon but still def not bro and sis Its just the way things turnd out and probably for the better but otherwise i probably would of bred bro and sis do you think that could cause trouble? sure do and an extra eye, oh and is it normal they glow in the dark
  20. if you read the fine print on tht tm auction its actually for the unit without the fan or turner, unless u want to pay extra :-? cunning advert ae, but yea thats about the cheapest i can find in nz? and works well for reptiles it seems. Overseas you see the same incubators cheap as chips but who knows if you'l ever see the product or not but it is tempting
  21. mealworms chewing there way out after been eatin- i think thats just an old myth the more i hear it. In the past Ive fed to newts, axolotls, fish, bds, frogs etc and all seem ok.. mealworms arnt as nutritious as crickets/locusts/roaches but still a good feeder
  22. heres a link with pic http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/tubife ... 33477.html
