  1. possibly from aquarium plants that have been added to the tank? if the crays are from a river maybe they came in with them but not sure, its amazing what shows up in the tanks overtime
  2. possibly tubifex worms, they get to a couple of inchs long but generally only see 10-20mm sticking up out of the substrate. they also retract and hide in substrate/gravel etc when disturbed, nothing really to worry about if it is infact them, if you over feed the fish often the worms start appearing more ive found, otherwise hardly see them. hth
  3. one of my bds laid a clutch on artificial grass just next to the basking rock once, i thought it was a male until that day  hadnt noticed it digging prior and wasnt fat at all
  4. 3 k9's, cameras and im still a paranoid kiwi here.. id chips are these the same as like used for dogs? will any vet do this on reptiles? also photos of all reptiles, turtles underbelly etc. I think it really sux ppl will stoop so low to steal living things often been someones pride an joy
  5. Ive wundered this in the past but very hard to know if it was just something not right with my setup or the locusts but it did x my mind as ive had great success with some locusts and other times the whole culture seems sick and had to buy in more to get colony restarted atleast twice (over a year or so). but generally they breed well i doubt biosupplies would goto the trouble of doing so,more likely something not right with setup or the grass theyre getting? or ive also wundered about them going through the post, do nzpost have a scanner or something that may render them sterile? wild caught locusts would be interesting to try an breed
  6. hiraki dickory dok? seriously though thats good to know as my medusa could do with some, I never knew they existed  would trout pellets be any good for arowanas?
  7. as long as your honest/straight up about what the charges are then everyone should be happy (doesnt mean you can charge what u like but within reason) i find it funny how 9/10 ppl will say no dont worry about the extra dollar if u say to them hey post office charged me less but if u think to youself sweet bonus dolla for me then you'l prob end up with 9/10 ppl either complaining to you or atleast thinking to them selves they bn ript off  instead of charging gas and time (even postage) i think your better in somecases just to add to the sale price
  8. I didnt know we had non natives running around  - when where how do i see them
  9. even mastertrade have given me quotes for reptile tubes before, should be one of them in wellington there are differant ratings on reptile bulbs like sylvania are 5% uv output and others can be upto 10% but not sure you can even get them here (nz), pet shops may sell something upto a 8% but i could be wrong, been meaning to ask what other reptile keepers are using actually  (ps outputs maybe uva and uvb or something but what ever it is the higher normally better, bulbs should be replaced every 6months/atleast yearly)
  10. most if not all fry look the same when first hatched but who knows like with alota other things :-?
  11. hahaha up your alley, im sure if your serious about getting some you shall find. are they all the size of that male or is that small decking lol the first pics look like hatchlings? do they seem confident reeves are abit prone to drowning to but should be swt you know tht dont ya
  12. so you won the lotto then, 10 lil reeves how cool more pics please
  13. bunnings heat lamp/light fittings all sorts to choose from - $6-15 60-10watt bulb $2-6 fluro cant memba prices but about $30 for a double 2 foot fitting - but u will need to wire cord etc try electrical store/wholsaler for reptile tubes - sylvania is 1 brand - round 20-30bux if you want ceramic fittings for bulbs bunnings sell like the sensor security lights but without sensor (i think) in singles or doubles, can use as is or take ceramic fitting out and just wire up and hang in tank hth
  14. back to cockroaches - if someone could find a non climbing species that would really be worth breeding or just send some my way 8) they use them over in the states might be dubia roaches or something..
  15. ive always thought it was just bran flakes and oats were differant all together :-? not tht it would matter mealworms breed in most cereal like food anyway but uve gt me thinking now lol. as for mealworms theres no rule saying you cant have more than one culture
  16. one would assume if your pets are legit then no worries, but who really knows after the iguana slaughter :-? time for change in this counrty cant be tooo far away lets just hope its for the better of the country and the hobby
  17. so if its all wood you will only beable to see fish from the top? plastic tanks would be my choice... what about one of those white 1000 litre water tanks in steal frame (anywhere from $50-$150 food grade normally more pricey etc) u see them at fairs etc for drinking water, only thing is you would have to cut the top out and im not sure how strong one would be without but if in a frame etc it should be sweet. You could insulate that then put tongue and groove around outside maybe and theyre easy to plumb into sumps etc and can join more tanks on as needed
  18. oat bran you say.. meaning rolled oats (porridge) & bran ? or cereal oat bran? or...
  19. warmth - 30C food - cat biscuits anything pref with 30% protein and above (blend into powder ) water source - veges, sliced carrot, potatoe etc (without it they will die) bug barriers; - vaseline works but only for nymphs really but theyre the first to escape so all good for them - silicon spray available from any hardware store, just be care full im heavy handed and have killed a couple of cultures in the past when reaplying the spray - fumes pretty smelly so yea.. or there is fluon adi but only available overseas i think - apparintly this is the stuff for keeping roaches in toe, i havent got around to it but would love to get some bought in at some stage or come think of it i saw some teflon spaypaint on tm the other week (same stuff as used for non stick frying pans etc, maybe worth a try. Im using plastic containers with tight plastic clip on lids then ive melted with soldering iron some flyscreen mesh onto lids, also very thin smear of vaseline inside of container as a we safe guard for when opening etc Imo locusts & crickets have an equal work load locusts pit fall been that they need grass. crickets is that they die off really quick if no water source and eat each other if no food lol, roaches less work in the regard they dont need egg trays so no incubation etc they just multiply but these are more prone to escaping. mealworms maybe ok for your kokopu?
  20. do u keep male and females seperate, if not try seperatings them and condition them up for a couple of weeks then introduce females to male/s tank and should be all good. otherwise live food coupled with regular water changes normally get fish in the mood hth goodluck
  21. "The Bearded Dragon Manual" is a great book, was on tm a while ago but havent seen for a while but if you can find one id recomend it!
