  1. go to jansesn they can order them in for ya. pretty cheap or free if u go down to a local pond
  2. black light and UV light are two very different things. UV light is very harmful and can cause burn [we fishys use this in our UV-C filter systems which is completely covered so u cant see the light directly]. and of cause MH lights mainly used by saltys goes into the UV spectrum but not as harmful. Black light which is what we're taking about using here to make these glow are harmless and often used at nightclubs....etc a lot things will glow under black light including our eyes, finger nails, teeth and lemon juice
  3. na unfortunatly not, would be fun though.
  4. yep 6500K is best for planted freshwater, quit hard to get hold of these days. 18 000 does nothing for plants but good for bring out the colour on the fish or use as night lighting. have ever seen up to 14 000 though so i am assuming the 18 000 is even darker blue?
  5. so there is two tanks above the large one? cant really see them. nice job would have chosen a different color myself just a bit bright for me. looks great though

    Not so good

that is very upsetting to read, i dont get why there are such a high rate of collecting form the wild for saltys then fresh. i get that saltwater fish are a lot harder to breed but i would have thought most hard and soft corals would be grown in captivity.
  7. ooooooooo do u have neon or cardinal tetras? would be interesting to see if they glow.
  8. i am thinking the same thing or lack of oxygen, usually with med it puts stress on the fish making them needing more oxygen and raising the temperature also decrease the oxygen level i always try to find the cause of the whitespot. whitespot is always around it just doesn't bother the fish most of the time and only occurs when the fish are stressed somehow which allows the whitespots to latch on while the fish is at a weakened state. one very common reason for fish getting stressed is because they feel insecure and unsafe. what sort of ornaments are in the tank?, drift wood, plants....... if its a smallish tank [under 100Litre] and with minimal hiding place in the tank and placed where there is always ppl around [lots of foot traffic] is a sure thing for whitespots.
  9. i'll pm sharn see if he can shed some light on this matter.
  10. sharn can tell u for sure he had both but to my knowledge. golden is a type of albino, both golden and true albino can see with their RED eyes.
  11. have u sold ur whips and jag, do u have any babies whips?
  12. that's about $10 NZ, a bit on the expensive side for a schooling fish no bigger than a neon. would cost a bit to get a decent size school mind u i bet they breed like nuts so its just a matter of time before the price comes down.
  13. mind u sharn there are natural deep water marine fish that glows in the dark. anyone like them? here is a video clip of the very first Fluorescent fish "rice fish" http://www.azoo.com.tw/azoo_en/azoohtml/tk1video.php
  14. i hate u ................................ enjoy while it last before u come to the dark side. how much are they goin for? what family is it sold under?
  15. good one very close but how about rainbow trout with a leopard danio chances are if u really wanted to u can get them in as guppies. like MAF can tell the difference
  16. nope genetically modified, they breed this way once modified but is sterilized to be infertile for selling to the public in case it leads to the wild. yep especially the fluorescent green ones which just looks normal when under normal lighting. nope too right i my self thought it look very unnatural. the shop is located on a street with about 20+ other fish shops and when i was there the shop was dead while every other shop is packed with ppl so i guess most other hobbyist feel the same way.
  17. just read the tread rcon021 posted about the new discovered "galaxy fish" it reminded me a shop i visited while in Taiwan that sells fish that glows in the dark or under a black light. its an genetic modified fish that not all ppl can agree upon so its still the only shop to sell them. these pics are just taken off the Internet and they're green pearl danios and red zebra danios but they have just about every common small schooling fish in fluorescent colors of blue, red, yellow, green, purple....... to learn how it started click on the link below http://www.mongabay.com/external/glowing_fish.htm
  18. that is very cool i would love to have a school of those in my community tank.
  19. some very cool pics, i love normal BN. its so hard to get a decent photo of these guys. here are some of my
  20. i've seen smcoleman's set up in person and while their breeding tanks everyone of them looks better than a lot of display tanks i've seen.
  21. well just a bit over a month now and they all grow at pretty much the same rate with the only different of the ones in the 2 and 3 foots have more runts and a few really fast growing ones already over 2 cm well most of them average 1.5 - 2cm with runts still around 1cm the ones in breeding traps however has 0 runts which i believe is due to more concentrated feeding so everyone gets their share of food. in breeding traps there're still fast growing ones as well but not quit the size of the ones in bigger tanks. so my conclusion is the best thing to do is have them in a decent size grow out tank and plenty of food to get best results which is what most ppl do anyway  got heaps for sale PM if intrested
  22. so there is more yellow then black? in stirpes? how big was it? flash? http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/im ... ge_id=1141 or candy stripe which is very rare indeed, never seen or heard of on in the country. http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/im ... ge_id=4072 royal? http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog/im ... ge_id=2664 GBA with black markings ?
  23. they actually spawn when there is a fall then rise in temperature not while its raining. thats why they breed in the morning after a cold night when its just warming up again. like wok and Luke suggested put it where it hits the sunlight enough for the water temp to fluctuate and remove the guppies if there is any.
  24. they're common among breeders and called nymphs which basically means they're deformed in someway. usually culled but these days anything sells but all fancy goldfish is actually deformed to start with so if u like the looks of them yes they would be alot hardy and more suited for the out door pond.
  25. looks fantastic, i didnt know u went salty. is that a bicolor blenny? so the sump is about as big as the tank? sorry very limited marine knowledge here
