    discus war

thats what they do. i have constant discus war. it only stops for food and sleep
  3. hi kelsta, welcome to the forums. how much are you feeding your fish? i would be feeding very lightly for a few weeks, until your tank cycles. also why add whitespot cure and salt? it not very good imo to just add stuff incase thats whats wrong. better off to find out whats actually wrong. the lfs(not all) are sometimes just interested in making a sale, and will sell you whatever medications etc they can. I look in my fish cupboard and see probably $100 worth of stuff i have been persuaded to buy- whitespot cure, wunder tonic, activated carbon, ph up/down, and the list goes on... anyways thats my 2c worth, hope you can get it sorted

  5. rogan those irrigation fittings leak after a while
  6. bummer dude my fire eel also died yesterday, wasnt as big as yours tho
  7. yea i run my water through one of those benchtop water filters, and straight in, usually change 40-50% at a time. i refill over about half an hour, and only usually get a temp drop of 4-5deg, which the fish seem to like as they all swim around where the cold water comes in. quite often triggers a spawn too. have been using this method for ages with no disease.
  8. jeez how much water did u change to get it to drop that much
  9. i reckon 2 of those would be fine for a 500l tank. however id probably pay $20 more and buy 2 aqua one 1200's, at least you know you can get parts for them. i think they are $128 each on TM

  11. blackout means cover with a blanket or similar so no light gets in. erythromycin will get rid of it in 2 or 3 days max, then you need to find the cause. good luck

    Wanted Whiptails

phil collis had heaps of pinnochio whips last time i went there.
  13. hi caper, yes leave tap water to sit for a while before testing. with the nitrate, sounds like yours is spot on. when i test mine(not often) i hold the tube up to the white beside the coloured squares. not sure if this is right or not but thats what i do. nirate at 10-20ppm is fine. personally i wouldnt bother with nitrite test, i have one that came with my test kit, that i have never used.
  14. my brother in law has a sev in with some malawis, along with a bgk, eel, kribs, and some others. bit of a weird mixture but everyone seems to get along fine.
  15. IME bristlenose wont touch it if its cyano. i have heaps of algae eaters and none of them touch it. what caryl said. you really need to find the cause, i think its too much phosphate, along with either no nitrate or high nitrate. pleas correct me if im wrong.
  16. mine is around 300l, and yes it is a wooden floor. to be honest i never checked about the joists or anything, just put it where i wanted it and filled it up no problem
  17. if you use a good treated ply its not going to warp when wet. as mark said a piece of ply under the stand will give a much larger footprint, instead of all the weight on 3 points.should be fine rogan, but if you want to pull carpet back to check floor boards, i can come and stretch it back in for you.

    Hexamita

you shouldnt need to actually take your fish to the vet, maybe print out some info off the net, and take some photos of your fish. unless you know a doctor, get him/her to prescribe some for you
  19. they should grow hard out with 4 fluros caryl, i only have 3 fluros and get 3 or 4 runners every time i do a pruning. mind you they do stop growing every now and again, sometimes for a month or 2, before taking off again.
  20. probably wasnt a great idea to turn the filter off for 3 days, would have been better to remove the carbon and leave it running
  21. how big is the room with the fish tank? if its not too big then it will only take a couple of hours max to lay the carpet, maybe you could use a large storage container to hold your fish, and run your filter and heater in the container while its being done then set the tank back up.
  22. no, haven't used carbon for years. definitely not necessary. probably good to give your noodles a rinse in tank water, though i must admit i clean my filter not very often at all, and when i do theres plenty of sludge
