  1. shampooing the carpet will do nothing apart from clean the carpet. sounds like its fairly well infested, i think you definately need to call your landlord, let him decide what they are going to do. sounds they might be better off getting new stuff?
  2. you can spray round the skirtings with insecticide, should at least slow them down if not get rid of not get rid of them all together. how long have you been living in the house? carpet beetle takes a while to actually eat away at the carpet, its quite possible that the beetle was in the house before you moved in, therefore not your problem. sooner you get on to it the better maybe it would be a good idea to show your landlord now and let him/her sort it? even if it was new carpet when you moved in, if the old carpet had beetle and the house was not sprayed before the new lot was installed, the beetles will still be there.
  3. every vet i have spoken to doesnt know about treating fish at all. i would tend to take advice from here or someone that has had experience and success treating gill flukes. what type of fish are you treating?
  4. looks great starfish! just wondering why you have all the bends on your filter pipes inside the tank?
  5. ah i thought u were using 1.5 litre bottles
  6. for mine i just make 2 cuts about 40mm apart down the bottle, fold that bit over hook it over and peg to the side of the tank. only suggestion i could make is if you cut down the bottles more so they are smaller it will make the brineys easier to reach/get out?
  7. had an old v8 jet boat up until 3 years ago, good fun but too expensive to run and repair, now i use an electric kontiki. all it costs me now is a packet of bait and a box of beer to drink while i wait...

hey all, just wondering if there is an easy way of sexing these? apart from spawning them of course. have two that ive had for a couple of years, and would like to try spawning them if i have a pair. since i removed my bristlenose pair from the tank, they have become very active chasing each other round the tank. they do look very similar, moreso than when i bought them they were sold to me as a pair of L002.

    Striatum

found 1st egg today from those ones from you rogan
  11. to be honest ive never heard of either of them. personally id go for 2 aqua one cf1200 mate, usually round $130ish on tm, easy to source parts for, and reliable.
  12. might be worth hiring a generator? temperature etc will be fine but dont think filter will be too good being off for that long? other option i guess is an inverter, run off a car battery, just to run filter, which wont be drawing much current at all.
  13. meh its only coloured skin im sure if i make it to being old and wrinkly, the rest of me wont be looking too flash either
  14. ok so it may or may not be the same species? wouldnt it be a better idea to contact someone that you have already sold the "huallaga" to and see if they have any females that they could sell you?
  15. usually a beginners aquarium guide book will have a good picture sharn, theres at least one book at the pap library with a good one in it
  16. yep same here, im in a different house nearly every day, and never had a complaint or anything bad said. alot of people comment on them, but never in a negative way. most people are just interested in how much it hurts, or costs, or how long it takes, etc. there are very few people who judge a book by its cover.
  17. so are they apistogramma huallaga? or eunotus? or both? or none?
  18. if they are the same strain then why do they have different scientific names? c'mon. think you missed ryan's point there are very limited apistos available in nz, and crossing two species is doing nothing for the hobby, bar creating ugly hybrid fish. the only person who may benefit is you, by selling them. if everyone started creating hybrid fish it will end up like dogs, all these x-breed mongrels, bloody cavoodles and labradoodles and schnoodles. getting pretty ridiculous IMO
  19. yep what sharn said. think its ok to post link to the auction if asking opinions on it. mods please correct me if im wrong good idea buying locally if you can, less stress on the fish, and the breeder should be able to give you advice on introducing them to your tank, and keeping them happy and healthy
  20. referring to some of the catfish for sale not the apistos.
  21. the thing that amuses me the most is the made up scientific names
  22. i think he may be short on something else?
