  1. wicked fish mate, love the last 2
  2. aqua one has always worked for me, never had one crap out, and reasonably priced.
  3. will eat 1x munted guppy and probably baby severums too if theyre small enough
  4. hard to say what the problem is, probably as mr pleco said take some water and get it tested for everything? only other thing i can think of is maybe altering the amount of light, and possibly do away with co2? ive only had this problem once and it was when i tried diy co2. in saying that i probably didnt have enough light so meh who knows?? hope u get it sorted mate.
  5. how often do u use bloodworms? if it was my tank id probably cut back on the feeding a bit especially the worms, and maybe cut down the waterchanges to once a week or twice at the most to see if this helps clear. dont worry if the nitrates go up a little, 10 or 20 ppm wont harm your fish.
  6. we are not trying to confuse u hayley, but you will find that different people have different ideas on things and the best thing to do is look at everyones point of view and pretty much do what works for you. i definately agree with not buying any more fish until it cycles. hope you have no more deaths and your tetras leave your guppys alone. as ian said, if you want fish that are easy to breed, go for guppies or kribensis, both excellent to start with.
  7. hey hayley, dont worry about breeding yet, at the moment you should first get your tank cycled. most tetras are egg scatterers, so they basically drop them wherever they are at the time. the breeding traps are mostly used for livebearers. and yes i would say they would have a nip at the guppy tails. i know you are new to all this but it pays to do a bit of research for yourself before buying new fish, either on here or google the name of the fish you are interested in.
  8. hi hayley, dont worry about adjusting the ph, 7.2 is fine, more important that its stable. try your best not to feed them much at all, and make sure all is getting eaten, uneaten food will quickly pollute your tank. your tank will be cycled in about 2 or three weeks and things will get better. unfortunately the guppys dont cope well with sudden changes, although will live happily in a range of temps/ph. stability is the key. i would suggest some hardier fish if you have no luck with the guppys, maybe some danios, or maybe kribs, which i have found virtually indestructible hope things get better for you
  9. id guess the fish would have died because of ammonia, probably caused by overfeeding. very easy to do when starting, and im sure most of us have overfed at some stage. id suggest getting your water tested, and if theres too much ammonia, do a partial waterchange. guppys arent the hardiest fish to be cycling the tank with, but in saying that ive used guppys a couple of times sucsessfully so if you keep an eye on your water quality you should be ok. good luck and remember this is just my guess.
  10. go for it bulldog. if u have fish that may be a bit sensitive to change in ph/temp then do as rcon says and refil over half hour or so. as caryl said some fish enjoy playing in the cold current.
  11. if its just happened all of a sudden id guess that it had either had a fight or caught it on a sharp bit of rock or something? personally i would do a few more waterchanges than usual to keep the water nice and clean, and see if it comes right on its own. if the eye falls out the fish will probably be ok ive had a few that have lost an eye and theyve been sweet anyone else got any suggestions?
  12. corys like groups, so i guess 3 or more will be sweet. my corys are racist, i have 4 different species and they all stay in their own groups. even the julii and trilineatus dont mix. not sure if this is always the case but definately in mine. wicked fish to have, very funny to watch
  13. hi michelle, are u able to post a pic? what kind of fish is it?
  14. dimebag

    id please

sweet cheers for that na just wanted to know what they are. pretty sure i bought them as l002 or l012 but cant really remember it was a while ago. any easy way to sex them? only difference i can see between mine is one looks a bit more bristly, and has a bit of a whip on its tale. i sorta picked this as a male but really have no idea.

  16. dimebag

    id please

hey there, can anyone identify this fish, got a couple of them a while ago from phill, but cant remember what number they are. cheers 8)
  17. they can be pretty agro, not all of them tho, what ones are u looking at?
  18. yes mine used to dig all the time. sometimes spending days on a good hole eggs should hatch in 3-4 days, but you may not see the fry for a few days after that, until the parents are game enough to bring them out
  19. jeez 3months is a long time to have a cloudy tank man what do you have in your sump?
  20. hey stompa, how long have u had this problem for? a friend of mine had this for almost a month, he just waited it out, and one day it just came clear  still not sure what caused it but it did get better, hope u are able to sort it those discus i got from u are doing good man a couple died but the rest are going strong, especially the turk hes growing fast as.even got a pair out of em
  21. hey gatito, honestly you should have no trouble breeding the kribs however you decide to set the tank up. a cave definately helps but ive had them lay on the glass under a leaf before. also i found they quite like to dig a bit of a hole. i used to find a 50% cold water change triggered a spawn just about every time. only other advice i could give is possibly use a couple of cories for cleanup instead of b/n? b/n in my experience are nearly invincible, have watched b/n eat eggs despite being attacked by mum and dad  have fun breeding these they are great fun and excellent parents. nice looking fish too
  22. i would go with an inch of aquatic mix, then an inch of washed sand, possibly a bit more. your plants will do much better with this than just straight gravel.
  23. hey, thanks for the replies i havent noticed any swelling caryl the fish pretty much is normal apart from the colour. warren, i havent done anything out of the ordinary, and my tank is pretty well covered, so dont think anything could have contaminated the water, unless something was in the water itself. all the other fish seem 100% including discus, rest of the rummys, blue rams, and assorted catfish
  24. hey all, one of my rummys has turned almost black in the body, but otherwise seems fine, eats and swims round as normal. has anyone else had this and should i be worried? thanks for any replies and advice.
