  1. na go for the whiptail they are peaceful and easy to care for. however depending on what type of whip it is it may not eat algae. i have 4 different species of whiptail in with my discus, but only 2 of them eat algae, the farlowella acus(twig catfish) and the royal whip(sturisoma panamense?) the rineloricaria i must say i have never seen eating algae, seen to enjoy colorbits and bloodworms tho hope this helps
  2. nice pics and fish man i would also be keen on any that are for sale my question is, how the hell do you get them to sit still for the camera?? all my apistos come rushing to the front of the tank when they see me, but as soon as they see the camera theyre gooone :-? maybe they think its some new kind of net???
  3. hi all, i have an aqua one r2-120 tank with the wet/dry filter that comes with it, and it is really noisey  i think its the powerhead making the noise, sort of a humming, rattling noise, and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem? if so, is there a remedy? the tank is only a few months old, and has been pretty noisey from the start, but is really getting to me now. any help or advice greatly appreciated. cheers, duncan
  4. nice whiptails they look a bit different to mine, i have 2 different rineloricaria species, hard to know exactly what species they are. my 2 eat anything on offer, bloodworms, colour bits, flake, whatever floats their way oh and they seem happy at most temps, mine are in 29 deg with my discus
  5. 1 hoplo 1 banjo 2 different whiptails 1 farlowella acus sterbai & bronze corys and a royal whip coming this weekend

  7. u need a prescription, or maybe u could go to the vet and see if u can get some. seems the vets round here are pretty reluctant to give it tho, get to know a doctor or dentist or the like , its much easier, and cheaper!

i have a few different whiptails with my discus, the best one for eating algae of the glass etc is the farlowella acus by far.
  9. hi, if its a brand new tank dont add any more fish at the moment, as it probably wont be cycled yet, but in time u may be able to put a few more fish in, depend on how many plants, filtration, frequency of waterchanges etc. have a good search on the net for info, theres heaps available your LFS should be able to test your water 4 u and tell u whether your tank has cycled, its usually about a month, though the general rule is add fish slowly. many of us learn this the hard way anyway good luck with your new tank, and welcome to the forums
  10. i turn the air off for a few minutes, then siphon them out with an airline from mid-water, that way u dont get many shells.and yea just through a hankercheif or similar as blue said. its a good idea to rinse them in fresh water. hope this helps
  11. yep i agree with ballistic do a water change and u might see some action
  12. hmmm, top dwellers- u cant go past hatchets IMO
  13. sweet man give me a ring mate, youve got my numba.

  15. lookin good man what happened 2 the other harlequins???
  16. i would if i were u. trouble is, the pleco will be way too big 4 a 20l tank. oh well, a good reason for another tank eh?? just as well u live in auckland where most of the tanks on trade me seem to be...
  17. I personally wouldnt bother raising the temp, mine seen to breed at any temp, but i keep mine at 25-26. remember what works for me may not for u. do u have bristlnose? or pleco which will grow huge? even though he seems to scoot away maybe hes got a nice belly full of eggs? b/n can be very brave! ive watched mine gobble up a whole lot of cockatoo eggs despite attacks from mum and dad  good luck
  18. hi, yep sounds like spawning behavior 2 me what size is your pleco? maybe its "interrupting" them? i have a breeding pair of kribs and dont really do anything special at all, a 20%water change with cold water is all it takes to get em going, this works 95% of the time(for me anyway ). if youre really wanting them 2 be succesfull i would put plec in with baby mollies and just watch for a while to see if theres anything else disturbing them. these fish are great to watch spawning, you will see the female sticking her purple belly out at the male 4 a while, followed usually by a lot of shivering in or near the spawning site, then u wont see the female for about 4-5 days, unti lthe fry are free swimming if you put your bell in the right spot u will be able to watch the whole thing hope this helps
  19.    thanks for your replies, yea it does have a reddish tinge must have hitched a ride on some other plants i bought recently cheers
  20. hi, can anyone tell me what plant this is? it appeared from out of nowhere about a week or so ago, and is growing really fast, almost to the top of the tank thanks, duncan
  21. no personal experience with this but id say your on the right track with daily waterchanges man that sucks hope your fish are ok good luck, duncan
  22. hey showtime, most of these should be fine, tho im not sure about mollies or sae, never had them before  some people keep angels with discus, others dont, id do a bit more research on this and make your own decision how big is your tank? and how many other fish are in it already? u probably need to consider all this before going and buying discus dont be put off tho theyre awesome fish with great personality
