    Help Please

Yes. I'd feed less and do at least one water change a day.

    Help Please

Can you do something to make the water from the filter outlet disturb the surface of the water more? Maybe lower the level so the water falls and splashes. This will increase the airation.
  3. Spot on I'd say 8) Nothing beats a good water change
  4. Hi boxxy. Welcome to the forums. :bounce: I agree with bedazzled. When I'm doing water changes to a tank that has an unwell or sensitive fish in it I warm the water in buckets by adding a little hot water from the tap. If the tank is well established and the occupants are healthy I just use cold water straight from the garden hose. We're spoiled in Christchurch and don't need to use a de-chlorinater.

  8. Thats not algae That particular rock is just that colour in places and the flash makes it stand out. The 'no flash' pic is actually the same rock.
  9. Hi smidey. I know what you mean about the spirulina. I had some dots on a Red Zeb earlier this year and posted pics. You correctly identified the problem then and I fixed it up by changing the diet, so that won't be the cause this time. It is a bit of a brown noser. It's trying to get my attention now, but then again they all are  Feed us....feed us...feeed us
  10. Hi all. I got 4 Metriaclima estherae, Red Zebra, a while back and one had a black smudge on its forehead and face when I got it. I thought it may have been diet related and may fade but it hasn't. What causes this? Someone told me ages ago that the males have it. True or not? Or is it caused by too much inbreeding? I know some E.yellows can show a 'shadow' on the face because of indiscriminate breeding. The other 3 fish , and the older one that I already had, are clean and brighter. This is with flash and makes it look worse than it is.... Without flash.....
  11. Very smart looking unit. Nice job.

    I.D. please

Hi all. A mate of mine bought a tank full of African Cichlids a couple of years ago and has lost track of what some of them are. I've told him what I think they are but he'd like confirmation, as would I, from others. The pics aren't too good because it was a spur of the moment thing to take them and the lighting was rubbish. I can arrange to get better ones if necessary. My I.D. on this is Tropheus moorii. He remembers being told that these are Tanganikans. He has two of them and he thinks both are male. My I.D. on this one is Nimbochromis venustus.....
  15. Welcome to the forums angel obsessed. What fish do you keep? Angels perhaps Do you have MTS yet? Most of us have to one degree or another
  16. Thanks for the replies. So far it's looking good to use then. Now all I need to figure out is if I'm getting it cheap or not  How much did you guys pay for yours?? I can get this stuff for around $20-$25 per 25kgs.

    Fungus on oscar

Hi sorcha I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your Oscar.
  18. Hi all. I use a product at work called Calcined Clay that I reckon would look good as substrate. My concerns are the size and the sharpness of the grit for my Africans. I think it may be too small and sharp for them as they sift and shift it for pits but would like to hear the opinions of others. I have had some in a glass of water for 3 or 4 days now to check its buffering capabilities. The pH has stabilised at 8.
  19. I reckon those fish will be fine in 7.2pH You're right there. It's the sudden change in pH that they don't like.
  20. Hi bedazzled. It sounds as if the ammonia is under control. You should now get a nitrite spike and will need to keep the water changes going to control that. What kind of fish are in the tank?? What is the pH of your tap water? 7.2 pH is fine for most fish and I wouldn't worry about it.
