I'm happy to be corrected, but I reckon nitrate at 40 ppm is quite acceptable. I know the lower the better but I've seen fish thriving in water with higher readings.
IME Africans can handle much bigger water changes than that. I do weekly changes of at least 30% and often 50%. During upgrades and major cleans I've used 80% new water with no trouble.
I wouldn't worry about it too much but if you wanted you could maybe shift it a little when he's not near it, maybe do it 2 or 3 times over a wee while until you can get a looksee inside. It's pretty cool watching this....
turn to this....
Entirely up to you and the comfort of the fish. The cave that mine use is facing the front but the only reason I ask is because I was wondering how visible he is and if you would be able to see the eggs if there were any.
From what I've observed that's pretty normal behaviour. It can go on for several days then one day you'll notice that he won't come out of the cave at all. That'll be because he's looking after eggs.
Is the cave in a posistion where you can see in it?
Good luck. I hope everything will be OK.
I agree. You don't want to raise the temp too quickly. It will add to the stress.
I have digital thermometers on all of my tanks so I can check the temps at a glance. It makes it much easier to catch a temp drop sooner rather than later.
Go on..do it...you know you want to...hubby can only kill you once, he'll get over it....eventually
Cheers. She was an excellent model. Very photogenic.
Oh WOW Thanks for putting up your pics people. What awesome looking fish :bounce:
I'm over the moon that I'll soon have fish like that in my display
It's the best thing about fishkeeping IMO. I love watching fry, of any species, grow up. :bounce:
I got them from a forum member. They don't post often but I've heard good things about their fish. I think it's the flash brings those other colours out. No flash =
a different looking fish.
