  1. The next time I strip the tank Smudgeys outta there. He/she spoils the look a little and I don't want to create any crosses.
  2. I use bleach to clean up the coral rock in my African tanks. I rinse them afterwards for half an hour by piling them up in the shower. I then leave them outside for 24 hours. If I can't smell the bleach I reckon I'm good to go. With a smooth non-porous surface like the glass of a tank I'd say you've done plenty already and you can go ahead and set it up.

Hi and welcome to the forums :bounce: I like a nice big school of Neons in a planted community, or Cardinals. I've just added a group of Sterbai Corys to my 200 litre planted comm. I had 2 and never saw them. Now I have 8 and they school together and are really active. As for the Dwarf Cichlids, I'd go for an Apistograma. I have Kribs but would prefer Apistos

  10. I know how bad you must feel about your losses but if you look on the positive side.....you get to set the tank up differently, choose the stock, watch and control the cycle process. I really enjoy that aspect of fish keeping 8)
  11. Nice pic and a cool looking fish.
  12. Your tank looks great :bounce: How about some more Corys? Until yesterday I had 2 Sterbai Corys in my planted community and I seldom saw them. I got another 6 and now they swim around in a school. It's very cool.
  13. It will be I was comparing Snorkels pic to McDowalls pic in 'Freshwater Fishes of New Zealand' I think McDowalls pic is of a male.
  14. My guess....Female Common Bully, Gobiomorphus cotidianus They get to around 100mm but have been known to 150mm + I say female because the males are stouter and have a blunter snout.
  15.  I know it can make me feel better sometimes
  16. Hi and welcome to the forums :bounce: It's not a weird mating dance. How long has this been happening? When does this happen? Is it after feeding? Or random? I've never seen it but I've heard that mid level fish can sometimes get a bit of air in them from gulping food from the surface which makes them swim oddly for while. I'm only guessing mind you
  17. Thanks to everyone for your input. The eyes are saying it's a cross. They are black. All my other Red Zebs have red eyes. Smudgey..... One of my other Reds So I guess it's bye bye Smudgey.
  18. It sounds as if the Ammonia spike is almost over with. The best ammonia level to have is 0.00. I'd do a water change to bring it down a bit. A little Nitrite at this stage is OK because it proves the bacteria is doing its job on the Ammonia. Keep your eye on it though and don't let it get much higher. Eventually you want this down to 0.00 also.
  19. I'm sorry for your loss. That must've been a terrible way to start your day Had the filter been disturbed recently? Have you chucked the water?? It would be worth testing it for Ammonia and Nitrite. The cloudiness sounds like a bacterial bloom??
