  1. I never actually said that I thought it was "Aye". I purposely wrote that sentence in an ambiguous way. I did this a) to see what responses I would get, and b) to prove the importance of making sure the meaning of your post is clearly understood. Even when spelt correctly and with correct grammar it is easy to be misunderstood. I personally believe that being clear about what you are saying is far more important than making a spelling mistake here or there. -This post has been spellchecked.
  2. lol, I cannot believe nobody has got this yet. Aye
  3. If you want to be fussy they are "Sub-Tropical" fish as are Swordtails etc... Sounds like you've put quite a lot of food in there might pay to do a 25% water change, leave them for a day and then feed them. I only feed my wcmm once a day and very little. They are in a well planted tank by themselves and seem quite happy. Cheers KA
  4. lol makes perfect sence.. wait 'til you're juggling a few more tanks - then you'll start to confuse people. Sounds good. All fish sound happy which is what is really important.... I've enven started confusing myself. Bought a vivid and numbered my tanks in the weekend.
  5. :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:  :bounce:
  6. Well the poor deluded man seems to think 30-ish tanks is enough.
  7. Unfortunately one of the things I had to agree on to be allowed a fish room was “Only on tank is allowed outside of the fish room†I thought I’d be able to talk him around in time but appear to be loosing....
  8. AR 980 is the model number of the tank. They are a lovely tank - however the boyfriend says I'm only allowed one if I get rid of the Jebo R 362. :-?
  9. Just to clarify: I don't use carbon instead of water changes to remove medications.. I use carbon as well as water chenges to remove medications.
  10. I only use carbon to remove medications.
  11. Give them a couple of days to settle in and they should be fine.
  12. It doesn't matter if the ladies you think he'll like are bigger than him - female swordtails grow bigger than the males anyway. I'd go with bigger females rather than smaller ones.
  13. What Caryl said is right on the mark. Lots of plants would give the smaller male places to hide.
  14. I make my own breeding traps out of those 1kg catering spread containers. A local cafe is more than happy to give them to me. I cut away the sides and bottom so I just have a frame and then cover with nylon shade cloth. (Like you’d put over strawberry plants in the garden.) I make sure the hole size is large enough for the babies to swim out off. I sow them up with a carpet needle and nylon thread. – I use a carpet needle as I make the thread 6 strands thick.
  15. Oh that's so sad. They are such beautiful fish too.
  16. I think it would take a lot to decide you don't like that wood
  17. Very cool David. Good luck with it.
  18. They are currently in a small Q tank (no heater) and I was planning on moving them into a 2-footer (no heater) once I can get a pile of plants and get it sorted. The "unheated" tanks in my fish room tend to average between 18-24 degrees due to most of the tanks being heated. I was planning to put them on the bottom row of tanks, as they tend to stay a degree or two cooler on hot days. The tank I have in mind is already cycled. It is the tank furthermost away from my air pump so even though I’m running an under-gravel filter it’s only a gentle flow. – The babies should be alright with this, right? I have very much the same set-up for my leopard fish and they seem to be breeding fine. From what you’ve all said it sounds like I’m on the right track. I will post pics when I can. I’ve been told that the line is not fully “Set†yet and there was some good variation of colouration to the fish in the tank. I made a point of getting a mix of fish in the hope that I can develop two similar but different strains. IOU1 you are welcome to “Thread-jack†now go catch one of those fish and confirm what they are… you have me curious now. Fishboi I may have to hit you up some time next year for some of the ones you’ve out-crossed and back-crossed. Cheers, KA
  19. Breeding Mountain Minnows??? Okay, I’m naughty… I bought some fish without doing my research…. But I do know a *little* about them. As some of you will know I went up to Auckland for a few days to visit my Father. Before I went up I set up and cycled 3 tanks “Just in case†and it’s a good thing I did. We went to check out Hollywood’s and I was mesmerised by the “Sunset†Mountain Minnows. I just HAD to have them and I really want to breed them. I know that they are sub-tropical and I know that they are “Egg-scatterersâ€. The wonderful sales assistants taught me how to sex them. [if the boss is reading this your staff rock!! They were very helpful ] What I was wondering is if anybody with experience on breeding Mountain Minnows would be able to give me any helpful advice. I will try and get some good pics and post them in the weekend. Cheers, KA
  20. also if you have gravel they sometimes burrow in.... pain in the neck having to did them out of UG filters
  21. They'll breed but babies may not last long... in saying that I just saw 2 new swordtails in my community tank. I was quite surprised as they look to be about 3-4 weeks old. I know that’s not even 5% of the number of babies that the 1 female in there probably had but it’s still kinda cool. (I have 4 breeding tanks for swordtails over and above this.)
  22. Anybody know what this li'l guy would be? http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=79904540&permanent=0
