  1. Hello SnowKiwi and welcome. Guppies are addictive, huh? :bounce:
  2. Auckland water is quite bad in some areas though Jude. (Don't PPl in the Waikato flush twice as it's going to Auckland? ) I'd get a sample of your tap water checked by your LFS so that you have a base line to work from. Also might help to do a little research with your water company, find out what they add, if they use mutible water sources etc.
  3. If you're running a sponge filter it may pay to pull it apart and give it a good clean out in 1/2 a bucket of tank water. I sometimes get blockages in the airline connection (an old earring has been sacrificed for cleaning out suck problems, but a hair clip or piece of thin wire are also good for the job). The sponges should also be rinsed in a bucket of tank water every now and then as they clog up over time. I use the twin sponge filters and rinse one sponge per water change. You can usually tell if you have either of these problems by a drop in water flow.
  4. Getting more photograph-able. (Or I’m getting better at it.) ....Yes, I'm bidding on a semi-decent Dig cam on TM
  5. Pellet food and an auto-feeder? I know, I know, that takes all of the fun out of it.
  6. None for sale at the moment, neet to get my numbers up first.
  7. Congrads IOU1... so that would make you only 15?? Man I feel old. (26 btw) why wouldn't my parents let me keep fish?? You both have such a head start on my, you'll be pros by the time your my age. /KA goes onto Trade Me in search for a rocking chair
  8. Only because snakeskin albinos would look cool. How big are the swordtails? As these guppies are only 1 cm they may be at risk untill they are too big to fit into the swordtails' mouths. That's easy to fix though, just keep them in a breeding net untill they get a little bigger. If i was in Auckland I would have snapped these up myself. Good luck Oh, at least 5 of my albino babies are male!!! :bounce: KA does happy dance that she now has at least 6 male albino guppies :bounce: :bounce: KA does another happy dance as she's getting better at sexing baby guppies :bounce:
  9. Okay, I have spoken with the seller... these guppies are not only split for albino but may carry the snakeskin gene If nobody buys them I'm going to give him an offer.
  10. LOL it may depend on the indervidual fish :bounce: they can be fussier than humans at times.
  11. My baby BN LOVE the skin. I simply slice, stack slices in a sieve, put sieve in a pot of already boiling water (it will stop boiling) wait till it is boiling again, count to 30, remove sieve and plunge -sieve and all- into ice water. I then freeze as Tsarmina does.

    Hi All

LOL Corms, I'm in an appartment in Napier - kicked out a flatmate so I could have a fish room (She was annoying anyway ) Welcome to the site. As said before a few Aussies here so you might want to change your location to "Aussie, Sydney"? Never know, you might find somebody is close to you.
  13. Angelfish will beg for food even when they are not hungry, never feed more than they can eat in a couple of minutes.
  14. I've always wanted an Albino python.... such a cool yellow on them.... sigh.... Oh, and welcome!!!!!
  15. Okay, found the auction.. I've asked a few questions (the ones I would have asked if I was after them) will be interesting to see what responce I get. I'm not totally convinced on this one but will let you know what I think of the answers I get. Good luck!!!!!! :bounce:
  16. Jade Staduim at Lanncaster Park (yes I'm a cantab at heart) might be a good size for a fish room. I kicked out a flat mate and replaced her with 28 tanks.... just trying to work out if I can fit any more in there. :bounce: Welcome to the forum and remember these wise words one of my LFS owners says to me quite frequently. "The only stupid question is one that you already know the answer too."
  17. Split for albino? Be careful there.. ask a LOT of questions about them.. be sure that either the MOTHER was albino or the Father was albino and the mother was a VIRGIN that they had breed themselves. Ask a lot of questions about the non-albino parent too: Strain or non-strain, fin/tail shapes etc. Good luck.
  18. Well I moved the ones that were growing faster so that the smaller ones have a better chance at the food and in doing so I was actually able to get a decent count. 20 babies!!! (10 on each side of the devided tank. )
  19. Sounds like live food anyway, if you're worried put a few fish you're going to cull in a small tank or container and "Test" feed to them.
  20. Once I've established my breeding stocks, yes... Already have a list of interested people and members of this site will get first option.
  21. Um, control?? What is this "control" thing of which you speak of? It makes no sense to me. Very cool about the angelfish Caryl.
  22. Ira, what size is the tank and how big do they get?? What fish can you have them with?
  23. Baby fish came out as gray skin colour, father's skin colour was blonde, mother, being an albino apeared to have the blonde skin colour. Therefore the albino gene blocked the skin colour gene in the mother. I was using the outcross to get more genetic info about the albinos as having 2 albino genes maskes a lot of traits but you need to know what is being masked if you want to play with the strain.
  24. According to what I've read about albinoism in guppies I will lose most of that 25% albino before the're even born. According to Guppies Keeping and Breeding them in Captivity by Homer Mozart (pg 52) heterozygotes: Na x Na
  25. So 27-28 if you want more males? How low for mostly fems? Don't want to go too low and while I've heard the temp theory have never read anything solid about what temp influances what.
