  1. Build a light wooden frame, get mesh from Mitre10 or the likes and attach. I'd suggest using a nylon shade cloth of desired grid and attaching to frame using a staple gun.
  2. Oh no! I hope I didn't jinx them!! Some how a bristlenose got from one side of my devided take (glass devider) to the other and ate a who pile of my baby albino guppies not to long ago. :-? so I know how you feel. -Needless to say BN got moved.
  3. Very Cool!! Don't let her eat them!
  4. Fishbait can breed almost anything LOL And he's good with the Newts... maybe PM him?
  5. ......... waits for Julie to post something cheaky......
  6. Why yes, we do. While finger food is preferred I will be bring along a good number of disposable plates, plastic knives & forks and serviettes. .... Yes... I was a Girl Guide.
  7. I've had female guppies have 50+ fry in 10 minutes and I've had others take over 24 hours to drop all their fry. I've had some females go 5 1/2 weeks between dropping fry and I have some that drop every 3 weeks to the day like clockwork. I've had some have 12 fry and some have 70+ I’ve had females that eat their fry and females that don’t… I’ve had females giving birth to a mix of blonde, grey and albino fry who will eat the blonde and albino but not touch the grey. There are a lot of things that can effect all of the above from genetics to environment, diet to tank mates to water conditions… even to the personality of the individual fish. Good luck with them. Have fun and I’m sure you’ll learn a lot. Cheers, KA
  8. Very cool, I quite like that one at the top is it a male or female?
  9. For anybody up this way there is always a standing offer for a game of "Risk" if you play. My boyfriend is always looking for people to beat other than me and the people next door.
  10. Website says it is. http://www.nationalaquarium.co.nz/about_our_aquarium/information/index.htm
  11. Wok is on to it. When are you coming? Best time to go the the National Aquarium is 1pm - that gives you a good hour to have a look around before the shark feeding at 2pm. [And you can always backtrack after the shark feeding if you've missed anything.] If you've never been there I'd allow a good 1 1/2 hours to have a good look around.
  12. Can you come take photos of my fish? The only way I can get a semi-decent photo of any of them seems to be to catch them and put them in a beer mug!! (If you don't believe me go look at my Trademe listings.)
  13. Don't give up, you know what your 1st cross was so hopefully you could repeat it? :-?
  14. My first tank was a Jebo R-362 and it is great!! It's the only tank my Boyfriend will let me keep in the living room. Very quiet, easy to clean. The only issue I've erve had with it was that the lid (for feeding etc) wouldn't stay up by itself. That was easy to fix though (I just broke the hinges and now I can take it off compleatly.) Cheers, KA
  15. Instead of leaving the platies out get 3 MALE platies. - No chance of them breeding then
  16. So when are you coming down to Napier Jim? HBAS final meeting of the year and potluck dinner is the 3rd Wednesday of November. (Hint, hint, wink wink.)
  17. Jim if you're going to play with the mollies could you get a couple of water samples tested.. I'd love to know what conditions they have adapted to... (and how hard it would be to repoduce them) Also could you give an idea of the temp they're living in?
  18. Could be an interesing experiment... just don't tell DOC
  19. I'll be at work Photos please!!!!!

    Hi There

Nice to meet you both. I hope you have fun up here and down at the show in Masterton. (KA mutters under her breath about stupid bosses whom can't see that a fish show is more important than one of the busiest weekends of the year.) Hope the plant gets home okay.
  21. Maybe pretend they're Killiefish ? /KA tries to look innocent.
  22. If you have more males than females the males will attack each other for mating rights. Either have no females or at least 2-3 for every male.
  23. Hi Michele and welcome. How often do you do water changes and what % of water is replaced? Also where do you get your water from and do you do anything special to it before use? The local water company may have changed how they treat the water. – Might be good to re-ask this question in the Disease section. Cheers and Welcome! KA
  24. **Slaps hand to forehead** It’s right below the platy/swordtail hybrid bit!!
  25. I was reading something on that 2 days ago! Apparently they used artificial insemination and the hybrids were all but completely sterile. Can’t remember where I saw the article… might have been Philip Shaddock’s “Guppy designer†website?
