  1. Awesome good work, there should be almost 100% survival rate from 12 days holding
  2. So are there any bits sticking up that are suitable for you to just fasten the pipes directly to?
  3. Awesome new fish on the brooklands list Any new cichlids Boban?
  4. Is there any internal pieces you can just stick a hose and hose clamps onto and just run inline taps? It might help if you put up a pic of what you are trying to do..
  5. Shot, good work Now to get a male and get them breeding and out there..
  6. I agree with Phoenix, don't feed this will only increase the waste in the water and cause further issues if filters don't restart soon. I probably wouldn't do any water changes I just wouldn't worry about getting the temp up unless it was dropping below 20C most fish can survive getting this cold with no ill effects. And it also has the advantage of slowing them down a bit lowering the amount of waste they produce and cooler water holds more oxygen so you are less likely to run into issues.
  7. Yep its pretty wet and windy out here Fire sirens going off almost constantly with flooding/car crashes I guess.. Our stupid dogs refuse to come inside in the dry/warm!
  8. What are you feeding your fish? Sometimes foods high in spirulina cause these spots to occur and they are harmless..
  9. Yeah I have done that as well, I have even stuck the ziplock bags in a envelope send for like 50c before..
  10. Put some poly under the tank, poly on the front of the trailer and strop if forwards and down that way it can't bounce or move anywhere..
  11. Good sized tank.. It would fit on a trailer too if you have a car with towbar or access to one.. I also don't think you would need that many people to load it if it is only 10mm glass and empty of all water and substrate.
  12. I think that pink/yellow fluoro gravel that Phoenix44 loves is what you need to stick in your tank, and maybe some fluoro plants or fake plastic corals it would be awesome..
  13. Until someone shows me a way of seeing the bacteria then we wont know, IMO I have found them both to work just as well as each other.
  14. I am yet to decide which bio media is the best I am pretty sure even the cheaper stuff would hold tons of bacteria.. It is a difficult one because the bacteria will only build up to a level to suit the bio load in the tank, you cannot see either of these things so how much do you need? You could spend tons of money filling this with the eheim stuff and not need it but never know. I know that I have used the cheaper ceramic rings, pumice, terracotta beads (that you get for putting in pot plants) even just used filters with filter wool in big tanks and had no issues I think I have some of that eheim stuff mixed in with all the others too.

Yeah I agree 40 x 400L tanks would be impressive, almost impossible to setup in a garage though
  16. There are distinct groups of apistos and they will interbreed within these groups.. Some of the females are so similar they are hard to tell apart. If they are being sold as honsloi by a descent shop (maybe even ask the fish guys what wholesaler etc they came from and if there were any other apistos in the same tank at any time) then I would grab them. I am sure it wont be long before males are available.
  17. What are they being sold as? Female apistos can be very hard to id so it could be a big gamble and possible screw up if you were to breed them to the wrong male..

I find winter power bills usually help cure it, or encourage people to get even bigger and build a fish room and then you are done..
  19. Awesome tanks and fish Henwood, that big tank looks pretty full, cracked up when I saw the little yellow swim out he is probably still big for a yellow but looked tiny in that tank.
  20. I didn't get mine Yeah I forgot to make a post saying we had been affiliated, it is just a shame to be leaving so soon after it has all just taken off!
  21. Haven't looked at the Axelrod altas for a while but it is possible steel blues aren't in there as they are a hybrid fish.. Just for comparison Eunotus http://www.worldwide-fish.nl/Pages/viss ... noutus.jpg Steel blue http://farm1.static.flickr.com/80/22736 ... 6c0ab7.jpg Steel blues have came in as borellii for years unfortunately.. I always get a little bit excited and ask for pics when I see borellii listed on trademe with no pic hoping that some of the old ones have survived but haven't found any yet.
  22. Yeah eunutus are completely different fish I got a few of those yellow cheeks tried to get some more and they were off the list then back on again apparently the supplier had been having losses.. I suspect they all just died out gradually, but would love to hear if anyone had any luck with them?
  23. The last ones of these that were imported were true borellii I got some and they were starting to show real potential I even got them to spawn but they were weak as and just died off.. I think the same happened everywhere as I have never seen nor heard of anyone with them still.. Panduro unfortunately appear to have died off too, I had an awesome pair (one of the last I know about) and lost them with no babies produced
  24. Depending on what has caused it (a whole heap of things can cause dropsy like symptoms) it can sometimes be cured but the fish is never the same and it can cost more than the fish is worth. Again it can be contagious but it would depend on what has caused the dropsy symptoms, maybe it is just a random organ failure on one fish and it isn't contagious, it is hard to tell. I would bounce the really sick one and keep up the water quality and just watch out for issues with the others.
