Was thinking it would be ideal if someone wanted a big tank off greg or someone up there.. Think from memory the trailer is 8 x 5' so pretty big..

I am driving upto Auckland on the 2nd October with a car filled with fish and a big tandem trailed loaded up with tanks. Driving back on he 3rd October with it all empty, if anyone needs anything brought back then I would love to fill the trailer/car (and hopefully get some donations to help cover costs :)) and bring stuff back for people. Everyone is always complaining how cheap stuff is in Auckland so now is your chance to get some cheap stuff back! Bear in mind that while I am happy to bring stuff back I don't really want to be driving to the back blocks of Auckland and making Sunday an even bigger day than possible so try and make it as easy as possible for me.

Most heaters don't actually heat to the temp that you set them to on the side.. If the tank has stabilised at 24 and is not going up any more then turn it up another 2 degrees on the temp indicator and it should go upto 26 Some fancy heaters you can calibrate them so they do heat to the indicated temp, what brand heater did you buy?

No worries.. TBH though a 215L tank (especially considering these tanks are pretty tall not a 4fter or something like that) is only really good for peacocks/yellows/dems long term. It would be a good short term grow out for your haps though.

lol a 980 is not going to be any good for livingstonii for very long either, they really need to be a in a big 5fter or a 6fter as they are big predatory open water fish.. If it is the smaller ones then I would suggest the tank is too small and they are just getting chased too much and it is causing them to get a bit ragged, getting them into a bigger tank would be my suggestion.

Filtration is good But tank is too small.. I can only assume you will be upgrading to the 980 you got in the other thread for these guys.. Are all of the fish getting ragged fins or just the smaller ones or females?

Yeah there are plenty of people to meet up those ways and plenty of fishrooms to see.. And a new fishroom to make for myself My shellies are going really well, breed every 2-3 weeks like clockwork so I have tons of fry trying to introduce new young to form a colony but it isn't working out so well lol I am sure Jen will be in touch when she is ready to take on more fish, she is probably like a few others down there and trying to rebuild other things before fish and tanks..

Last I heard the adult shellies are fine she just lost some fry.. I have already offered as many fry as needed to replace them I think the major losses were in the apistos

Gutted.. They probably just apisto'd on you They tend to do that from time to time just drop dead (at least they do for me), at least you are lucky enough to have some fry to carry on with..

How big is the tank? And what other fish are in it? And maybe it is just the fishes choice if they want fagged fins these days we can't discriminate against them...

I reckon if the wood is relatively flat and actually flexible enough to bend down easily it would be alright as Deno suggested just stand on it and see if it flattens out.

I forgot to give you the best advice.. Chuck a heap of nets in the tank and turn the lights off at night, wait an hour and then setup a red light and catch her in the dark, but glad you got her out and sounds like you have had a good survival rate of fry!

Baking soda or adding something to buffer your water (coral/sea shells etc) will increase the KH of the water.. As Phoenix suggests, increase the KH will help keep the PH more stable

A breeding net would probably be ok But remember the quality of life a fish can have stuck in a net or jar all day..

Are you after like javamoss and christmas moss? I have heaps of java if you need some..

The fish does look too bright?

Sometimes fish just eat the fry, some say it is a learnt behaviour (ie the fish were artificially raised and they don't know how to be parents) some say it is caused by inbreeding (too far from the wild to remember how to care for their young). If you want to raise lots of babies just remove whatever they have laid on and stick it in a smaller tank with meth blue and airstone to keep the water moving and hatch them yourself. There is plenty of info and pics and how to guides on google..
