  1. They will be telling you to stay off the phones because service may have been compromised and they probably want to ensure that any emergency calls can get through.. Same with the roads probably want them free for emergency services.. I hope that everyone is ok too sounds like it was a biggie.. Not a good thing for fishkeepers!
  2. Wow they look awesome, that sand is cool! I wish I leave the fry with my pair, might have to do a species tank for them when I am moved and setup..
  3. Yeah just past damp seems to work really well.. I have only tried grindals on scouring pads though haven't tried whites yet, it is good because those annoying bugs don't seem to come in these cultures, and they are easy to rinse out when the culture goes off and the worms still live and build back up again.
  4. Looks cool But where are the fish? lol Typical plecos hiding?
  5. Have to be careful about the mods over there though they are hard asses And the rules are tough..
  6. I follow both They are both NZ based forums to help people who keep fish/reptiles.. This one is associated (and ran by) the national fish keeping body in NZ (FNZAS) and the other is privately run, most people are members of and post on both sites.
  7. It sounds like it is pretty nasty stuff and would completely destroy the whole ecosystem making it very hard to introduce fish again until everything has started to return, you also have to wonder about how long it hangs around and also the effect on the water of all the fish and inverts dying and rotting away.. They will also wipe out alot of natives because they wont be able to catch them all to save them.
  8. Looking good, hopefully the cats like it
  9. But would you pay the money required to get these wild caught fish in the country? And would an importer judge the risk (of loosing really expensive fish in quarantine) acceptable.. I mean if bog standard discus that come in end up retailing for $1-200 would you pay say $3-400 for 1 wild caught fish? Alot of it comes down to supply/demand. You also have to realise that we are small fry in the international fish market so any overseas exporter will just bump us down the list for quality fish and send the best to their big customers to keep them happy.
  10. Lighting would have to be something pretty grunty maybe 4 x TH50 or halides that tank is very deep. From what I have read the water movement and aeration through sumps disperses the CO2 pretty much making adding it useless..
  11. That is a safe way to be, as an educated guess you can assume the only "pure" species of victorian hap we have in NZ is the brown haps (although burtoni are on the allowed list which would be awesome to see).. But it is also very hard to tell, maybe you have a very nice looking brown hap fed on good food and in a good position of dominance in your tank, or maybe you have something else..
  12. Yeah you pretty much sum it up, are you moving up too? lol I will still remain a member and help out with the club wherever I can, a bit gutted to be president then have to bail but that's life sometimes I am sure someone awesome will step up and carry on now the club is up and running. Yeah heaps of offers for tanks its awesome Diver21 lives in Hobby and has offered me alot of tank space which hopefully should even be enough to house the fish I want to keep (obviously I am not going to keep all 45 tanks worth of fish).. Will just need to bring a few bigger tanks with me and then should be sorted. I will keep all the other offers in mind in case I need them, thanks silverwolf and Adrienne. Barrie I think I will have to visit at some stage, same with you Adrienne although I have met you in passing it would be good to see your fish and setup lol can anyone help with poly freezer panels? Surely someone knows someone with a pile of them sitting overgrown at the back of the section they would love to get rid of in exchange for some $$ or some beer..

    BIG! NO! NO!

IMO barring and shape is not right for kenyi, I would say zebra x yellow..

    BIG! NO! NO!

The e yellow pictured in the auction looks quite dodgy anyway.. There are a few dodgy ones around. Regardless it is almost impossible to tell what was crossed to make them and it achieves nothing trying to, the only good thing is they are being honest and admitting they are hybrids. But it wont take long for people to decide they are pure and rename them, breed them and sell them on as something else
  15. I tried killies had some austrae golds and gardini blues and they didn't work out for me, must have done something wrong? Might give them another go one day, maybe a visit to the god father of killies in NZ would inspire me?
  16. Yeah they look pretty good, imagine that male agassizi's tail (when it actually grows back that is) it would almost glow in the dark..
  17. I am amazed in the colour in those fish firenz they are only small, they should go like Seth's one when they grow up.. I really have to get my fish on NLS
  18. We are moving to Hobsonvillie lol I have no idea what Yum Cha is?
  19. lol I will miss you and all the other good friends we have down here Simon But that isn't really an option any more, sometimes it is better to leave under your own steam than be pushed..
  20. Got word a week ago that we are moving back up to Auckland Now the stressful part of planning the move and getting us, the kids, 2 dogs 3 cats and 45 tanks filled with fish up there.. lol Then to build somewhere to house them all (the housing area we are moving into doesn't have garages). But should be fun I am looking forward to meeting quite a few people (and joining the local club) and catching up with a few more I haven't seen in a while. If anyone knows of any cheap garden sheds or chiller panels going up those ways let me know. Any suggestions for how to make the move less stressful let me know.
  21. Bars are just stress/mood related on brown haps
  22. lol would help to read it then aye Might be the NLS getting the good colour out of him..
  23. Could still be a brown hap just a really nice red one, what are you feeding him?
  24. Siphon is the best way by far, failing that you you can try a fine net but they tend to goto ground as soon as a net hits the tank.. Maybe try and find where they are settling for the night and siphon them out of the pit/cave the parents have them in?
