  1. Yeah I know ive owned and seen quite a few but none that nice Its probably under descent lighting and had the photo doctored..
  2. Yeah its a cockatoo Would love to get ones that nice in NZ..
  3. I use pumice in a few filters whats supposed to be wrong with it?
  4. I'd say that is steep for glass, I paid $150 for 2 pieces of 10mm 5ft by 2ft. As its for a bottom ask him for second hand or whatever as a few minor scratches wont matter
  5. Heres some reading on peacocks They're easy to keep fish, relatively peaceful you only run into aggression problems with rival males that look similair which is why I suggest to only keep on strain. The main problem with peacocks (well my main problem) is people who mix them and breed them and then sell the babies on as pure http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/p ... corner.php And I believe (correct me if im wrong) that silica sand wont change the PH? I would use some crushed coral or argonite (sp?) to buffer the water, you can add it in with your existing substrate (but it will likely be lost forever) gradually to raise the ph.. Or dump all your substrate out and start again with all coral sand. Then aclimitise your fish back into the tank gradually.
  6. Quite intereting reading.. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/aufwuchs.php Africans love it I just clean the front piece of glass on my display tank and leave the rest for them to munch on
  7. Awesome glad to hear its all working out Would love to see some pics of the fish hope she goes full term for you!
  8. I used nails because I want to be able to pull it all down for alteration's or when we move on as were renting, also as I was making it up as I went along it allowed me to stick bits up and then move them around etc..

lol then don't read the african threads  most of them have species names or african in the subject..
  11. lol I should add that was my wife who said that
  12. Mod = Warren - Trademe reference removed - when will you people learn????? Would think that is what they cost at vphone store too.. I got mine for 35 with new number and 50 credit but that was a special.
  13. If the water is going to stay above 20 and not be too instable you should be ok
  14. He's pretty big to only just be starting to colour up, hopefully that mean's he's going to be a stunner My baenshi was fully coloured up and breeding at 5cm's. Yeah id say the males have staked out some turf they didn't seem to be that terriotorial in my tank until recently probably because I introduced a larger unrelated male and he always dominated all the rest now they're catching up it seems they all have their rocks they hang out on. They should all breed just provide heaps of areas for them to do so, flat tops to rocks little sheltered pits etc and they should be ok. You only run into problems when one fish rules the whole tank and wont let anyone breed but if your fish are all young and grew up together you maybe ok.
  15. Yep its fine its natural so just leave it be
  16. lol I have 6-7 jullie maleri if you want It would be awesome if we got alot of the shell dwellers here but unfortunately we don't
  17. Its not live food but your fish would love it if you got some cooked pealed shrimp from the supermarket and cut or grated it up small enough for them to eat.
  18. Peacocks would be good. But only stick with one type your tanks probably too small to deal with agro males, and that way if they breed you can guarantee they're pure and pass on any babies with confidence. Ktttk's tank is around 200L 3ft so its some indication of what you can do.
  19. Looking good man Any chance of a full tank pic? Good idea on the cherry barb's you don't have any big predators in your tank so they should be fast enough to stay out of the way and add some colour etc.. Maybe the peacocks would have got the WCMM's but I thought they would have got the cherry's too? As for sexing them, its quite hard, the males are bigger and brighter the females are slightly duller and stay smaller but the only way to tell for sure is when they hold but noticed that the smaller less colourful ones turned out to be females. Looks like the baenshi is colouring up, how big is he?
  20. Bricks are kinda natural But yeah you get the idea.. Unfortunately giraffes and dolphins will outgrow your tank, giraffes rather fast but dolphins will hang on there, if you did want to keep them im sure there would be no problems with you growing them out in there but you would have to rehome them when you ran into problems, which you shouldn't have any problems doing if you wanted to go down that road
  21. I would love some Saulosi too But haven't seen or even heard of any around.. Anyway just posting on this to ask for some updated pic's
  22. I think this tank has the making to be a very very nice looking tank it is IMO one of the best mixes for colour price etc for a smaller tank would love to see some updated pic's.. http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/1-vt27 ... sc&start=0
  23. Sounds good hopefully I can help you make up your mind. You can do cichlids and plants I haven't experimented with it but others have my plants tend to all die or get eat/uprooted so much they just die off..
  24. I have said many times before people are welcome to come and say hi see my fishroom and fish and point out some fish they like and I can give some indication on if they might work together
