  1. Yep I just bounce them too, quick and painless.
  2. It will be interesting to see what those fronts colour up like as they mature
  3. I have an iPhone4 and find it great as well. I have compared it to a galaxy s1 and found the Samsung to be horrible and it just didn't seem to work as well as the iPhone, I haven't tried an s2 though. It would be a case of figuring out what you require out of a phone and trying both to see which one does what you need it to do the way you like it to do it.. Allot of people hate apple because you can only use apple apps (unless jailbreaking) but at least that means the apps etc work well and have been checked by apple first. I have heard that allot of virus and spyware is getting into the android apps because they are open source.
  4. I wonder if the holding fee is because they are going to send you a new phone but won't know if yours is covered by warrantee until it shows up and they have assessed it..
  5. There are certainly some dreamers around! It is not uncommon to see things sell for more on trademe than what you can walk into a store and buy them for new with a guarantee.
  6. It is really hard.. But if the fish are off their food and sulking but not reall skinny it could be a hex type thing, in which case the best thing is metro.. I am no expert but with most worms (ESP those treated with prazi) tend to present as fish that fade away and still eat pretty much right upto the end..
  7. I agree with Joe, that tank is too thin in 10mm glass probably not worth the time effort. There was an old thread (can't be bothered finding it) but Jimr had an 8ft tank let go in his fish room and it actually propelled shards of 10mm glass hard enough that they went right through both front/back of a 4ft in 10mm across the room from it. Probably not the type of thing you would want to be standing in front of when/if it let go. That crack could be patched, but again you would question if it is worth the risk.
  8. If they aren't eating and are hiding allot I would be concerned could be a sign of some sort of internal issue or fish being sick, as the others have suggested tempt them with something they really like if they still don't eat then you will have to investigate further.
  9. Just found this on cichlid-forum it is amazing and a good idea what it is really like in the lake has some pics/videos of some cool fish (even ones we have in NZ) in the wild
  10. The father of that fish is probably only 5cm TL but he is an original import and they never grow as big as NZ bred fish with a good upbringing and that haven't been through all the stress associated with importation etc. I agree though that is a massive and very thick fish! Much like the FF I got off you they are twice the size of their parents that I saw last night..
  11. Gutted mate, sorry to hear that! I hope you guys are ok?

    Altos :)

Starting to get a pretty good collection of altos Have a pair of gold heads (not breeding but getting a new female because I think the female is dud), a pair of black calvus that are breeding well, a pair of red fin comps from the latest shipment and just got given 20 red fin comp fry from an import around 3-4 years ago which is an awesome strain that has awesome red fins, they weren't even free swimming so it will be interesting to see how they handle the stress of moving and if they live.. Think ill have to invest in more tanks I am slowly kicking malawis out to put altos in their tanks, don't think there are many left in NZ that I don't have though?
  14. That's a whole lot of poly! 900 thick is it?
  15. Yes maybe lighting or a flash on the camera making them look more colourful, is thee any info on the fish on the site you got the photo off?
  16. Get at least 10 more Dems I agree with the others you can have almost any hap in nz in there.. I would do some big schools, 10+ of each D comp, giraffe, dolphin, kadango, Electra etc..
  17. I would be tempted to remove the fish and treat it separately, if no other fish are affected then it might be a one off, you are aware of the issues so you can monitor the pond carefully and if any other fish become sick you can treat the whole thing. It also gives you a control fish to test your medicine out on - if you treat it and it doesn't get better then the other fish get sick you know not to try that treatment on the remaining fish and can look at other avenues. Having it in a tank would also give you the ability to have a really good look at the fish get some good pics etc and monitor its progress. Just my 2c worth.
  18. Yes wild type tefe blue or green discus i am not expert but I believe that is what they are.. They have been here too from memory firenz posted a pic of one of his mates he used to have when I was saying wild discus were boring lol
  19. I wouldn't do it but that's just me if I had to do it I would siphon the water in slowly with airline (even pinch it off slightly to slow flow more) so that the change was so gradual it didn't harm the fish. I'm reality I probably do this every water change I just don't measure my tank or supply ph levels.
  20. I agree with the others just a few other comments to add. Further to Caryl's post have you measured the actual toxic components of your parameters (ammonia nitrates etc) some people assume parameters mean hardness/PH some even just PH but it is the others that will kill faster and more often. Also make sure your test kits are new or not expired most become inaccurate after a year or so. It is definitely a good idea to quarantine a fish you can paint the bottom of a bare bottomed tank black and put some plastic plants and ornaments in there to help them be more settled, it is always better to quarantine and have the fish slightly stressed out that introduce nasty diseases to your tank and kill all your fish. +1 on the silver sharks they are one of the bad ones that gets sold in pet shops to people with small tanks they should really be in reasonable sized schools in big tanks to be happy, they will probably be fine in your tank when smaller though.
  21. lol shows what I know about Tropheus What is it then? I agree with Nav though I want some!
  22. Do you have any photos of the injury? I am with the others don't even attempt to operate unless you know what you are doing, I suspect it is just an eye injury which usually heals anyway, worst case the fish looses its eye and depending on the dynamics of the tank or if it is male/female etc they can still live a healthy life with 1 eye.
  23. Wow nice fish! I didn't think I would see any illangi or Eureka albinos in NZ
