  1. Yeah sounds interesting to me too, if it was rings then some wear should have been picked up when you got an inspection done and they did compression tests unless it was a complete and random breakage rather than wear.. Do you have a copy of your inspection that was done?
  2. It depends on your stocking level, if your tank is lighting stocked then the surface area is enough to keep the gas exchange going, if not then you need some surface movement to increase the surface area and support the number of fish you have, it is also worse the wamer you have your tank so going to be an issue over summer. I know quite a few people who have lost some very expensive fish from relying entirely on filters for surface movement. Regarding getting them to recover, I usually do a water change straight away with cooler water to lower the temperature and also get some good splashing going on, clean out the filter and restart it and then hope for the best.
  3. The gasping ones can recover but sometimes they are too far gone, only time will tell.. This is why I always suggest running a filter and chucking an airstone in all tanks that way if the filter gets unplugged or fails then the fish don't all die.
  4. Most stands spread out the weight over a large area so when it goes through it wont make much of a hole in the ground if that is your concern But seriously just do as the others have suggested climb under and have a good look at what joists/piles are under and place the tank on the strongest point. Or strengethen as required, if in doubt get a builder or an engineer to have a look first.
  5. 4x2 framing with some painted ply wood screwed onto the outside, should be pretty easy to make yourself

    Alder?

It is a natual way to lower the PH, add tannins and they are anti-bacterial. http://www.aldercones.com/ http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19561

  11. Make sure you actually flush the fluid out not just drop the sump plug, most the fluid sits in the torque converter so you won't change much just draining it.. You can DIY flush it though it's pretty easy. Also look into if your transmission has a filter that can be changed and change that too.
  12. Trans should be properly flushed every 30000k with the right fluid if it hasn't been done in 2 years I would probably start there.. However the hold light flashing on and off would suggest to me that something else could be going on, maybe call a transmission specialist and see if it is a common fault. Has google brought anything up for you?
  13. Transmission problem? Have you had the transmission serviced at all?
  14. I like your brother 40 tanks and I don't use any chlorine remover.. For my calvus I let water sit for all other fish it is straight from the hose..
  15. Yes dorl (casserole on here - cant remember exact spelling but it's not spelt right) has it on trademe.. Unsure on what grade though..
  16. Gutted it doesn't sound like what I have experienced either usually I would get away with that.. But it might be chlorine or just ph/temp shock, how are the rest going?
  17. Not an expert on these things, but the terrible pic they have stuck up doesn't seem to match photos from "good" websites on the net.. Just another dreamer and some poor bugger is going to get ripped off
  18. Yeah these scams have been going around for ages now Such a shame to hear that trusting people actually fall for them!
  19. lol we have a Maltese x shih tzu shes pretty cool for a small dog pretty bloody stupid but seems ok and far easier than a big dog to handle, no shedding fur no smell etc.. Just a PITA to keep in a section!
  20. I saw it on trademe.. Is it the real deal?
  21. Yeah should be able to do it, I think there are tons of threads on it on here so do a search and you will find tons of info.. From memory the best thing to do was just to show up with the fish and not ask too many questions, if you start asking questions of if you can or not it becaomes hard and they just say no..
  22. Happy birthday :sage:
