  1. tank will be at room temp all year round. our lounge goes from 30 in summer to 10 in winter. i would leave the minnows outside, but we are currently building a pond and we need to move the bath tub they are in to continue. once built, they will be going in the pond (and i'll probably never see them again  )
  2. I have the following in my tropical tanks: Cabomba / Ambulia (not sure which) Tiger Lotus A Crypt of some sort can i use any of these in a coldwater tank or what other plants can i use? Fish will be WCMM's only and there will be no heater.
  3. another good one is microworms. a little better than daphnia at that age as the fry can't quite fit the adult daphnia into theirs mouths. once they are about 2wks old the daphnia should be fine.
  4. i feed them to my turtles, if i can catch them otherwise, my cats go hunting for them and eat them too
  5. i have just dug out a container of Wardley reptile calcium. i used to add it to the turtles food when they were inside. could this be used? maybe a paste of it on some plants?
  6. hi people, what could i do to increase calcium levels in a tank? one of my apple snails has a small hole in its shell thanks to a convict attack  and want to help with healing. thanks

  10. Got mine today and i'm in wainui thanks Caryl
  11. i'll try. no promises though. my camera is far from the best for fry photos. lol
  12. I have fry!! and they are free swimming. so much for 4 days to hatch
  13. Mine have spawned this morning. tank has marbles on the bottom to protect the eggs any hints on raising the fry on once they hatch? i have liquifry 1 currently have a filter running, but will turn if of once eggs hatch. have an airstone running have daphnia growing outside for once they are bigger i read somewhere that they need light during the night. anyone know anything about this? TIA
  14. my cat had been missing since christmas eve. on friday i dropped some flyers in the neighbouring streets. got a call yesterday afternoon from a lady 1 street over saying she had seen him earlier that day at her house, but didn't know where he was. i took a walk after dinner down the street calling him and he replied! he came running out of the ladies driveway to me. i went in and thanked her for calling me to find that a stray i had live with us, for a few month, a few years ago, was now living with her. so i had my boy back and found that the other was alive and doing well. great news all round. so, i suggest: lost ad on trade me - free lost ad on www.petsonthenet.co.nz - free drop some flyers around neighbouring streets - include photos. put A4 size posters on powerpoles posters to local shops, pet stores, vets call spca and ask if they have picked it up hope you get your baby back soon. i know what your going through!
  15. you would think they are. There is only 1 place i can buy them from that cost a lot less than $5/snail (and thats just the plain ones)
  16. our phone number is very similar to relationship counseling services. have had a few people nervously apologise and quick hang up once i tell them they have called the wrong number.
  17. mine eat standard flake food, with the occasional treat of bloodworms, mozzie larvae, tubifex worms, daphnia. my fish learn that if they are going to be fussy, they;re going to be hungry! even my clown knife and black ghost knife fish will eat flake now.
  18. i use a 12L and a 28L for breeding mine
  19. i just thought it interesting that those which are surface dwellers / air breathers are the ones that didn't get infected. this may mean there may have been something in your filter or air pump causing a chemical reaction to those that take oxygen from the water. just a theory
