  1. well we got snow on the surrounding hills today, no wonder the air feels icy
  2. well, if it is of any interest to anyone, the rat harness is $12.30.
  3. its been hailing here on and off all afternoon, and it has started again. i'm about to light the fire, and do the dishes cause my hands are cold, lol.
  4. our local pet shop sells a harness to fit a rat. is that the size required??
  5. i haven't been feeding them, but they are active in the pond. i have seen Raph (female) sitting on the bottom for a few days at a time, tucked into her shell, with just part of her head sticking out, but today she was wide awake with her head stick out of the water. i have yet to see Mikey (male) sitting still, lol. he is always on the go. the only time he stops is to bask on his rock, not that theres been any sun lately.
  6. thanks if its not raining tomorrow, i will pull them out of the pond and measure their shells. i don't think the size of the male will be very accurate for age as, from what i understand, he was living in very undesirable conditions before he was found and brought to me. also, at what age will they start hibernating? this is the whole point of finding out their ages to begin with. if they are still too young, then i will need to get their tank set up for winter, as it gets very cold here. a few days ago, we had an over night low of -3 degrees, and i don't want to lose them, especially as it gets colder and the pond freezes over.
  7. i have 2 red eared sliders, and i have no idea how old they are. both were rescued turtles, 1 male, 1 female. could someone tell me how i can work out approximately how old they are? TIA
  8. My grandmother made my dress. It was silver with a black lace top. beautiful dress!! unfortunately, i didn't get to go to the ball so the dress has never been worn. that was 10yrs ago so now the silver has faded in patches, but i still have the dress.
  9. but there's always new ones, and their so cute / funny
  10. definitely Star Trek, even if your not a ST fan, it's still a good movie.
  11.   but you have your towel, right?
  12. so Ira, was that your 'sliding door jigsaw puzzle' you mentioned a while back?
  13. were these fish new to the tank??
  14. mine did that when he was young about 5 years ago. went away after a couple of weeks. i lost him last week
  15. the only problem i see with something like that is keeping it clean!

    Danio's

thanks for that. the last thing i want is to go cross breeding the different colours. will just have to get one type at a time for now btw, Billaney, do you have any female pearl danios left? i have 2 males and was thinking of breeding them
  17. just be careful when treating scaleless fish (your kuhli) as they can have adverse reactions to some chemicals

    Danio's

will any of the different types of danios interbreed?? i have a couple of pearls and was looking at getting some leopards and zebras, and was wondering if that would occur. thanks
  19. I have 8 cats, and i protect them like i do my son. if anyone did that to one of my cats, i'd be out for blood, and if my child ever did that to an animal, believe me, there will be unmentionable consequences for him to deal with!!! i have hopefully taught him well enough that that sort of stuff will never happen. he loves our pets and gets very concerned if any of them get hurt.
  20. the brown whistlers don't need a lot of water. just a small dish about and inch deep max, otherwise they could drown. they also have a beautiful whistle if your lucky enough to hear it
  21. a few not so ordinary ones Ishta Amaterasu Amaunet Baast Bastet Qetesh Sekhmet Aislinn Ganos Lal Freya
  22. it should providing they have plants and plenty of space. if they feel to cramped or don't have somewhere to hide, then it may not happen. remember, they breed first thing in the morning, so come about 10am you will know if they have or not
  23. Black widows like to spawn in plants. i found cabomba / ambulia works best. i had a 24L with heater (25 degrees) and an airstone. i used 2 small bunches of cabomba weighted down with plant weights. i put marbles in the bottom of the tank for the eggs to fall through. once the adults had spawned (you will be able to see the eggs in the tank if you look hard enough) i put them back in their own tank. i removed the marbles, CAREFULLY, after 2wks free swimming. fry was raised on powdered flake food. out of 200 - 300 eggs i had 10 survive to 30 days +. once fry were beyond eating size, i put them in the community tank with parents.
  24. if your tank did indeed have an ammonia spike, the redness could be ammonia burns. do you have a test kit to test your water? if not, i'd recommend taking a sample to your LFS and getting them to test the parameters for you. this will help answer a couple of questions. does the "brown stripey fella" look like this?
  25. To say a big Happy Birthday to the FNZAS president Hope you have a great day Billaney
