I would expect that all offspring would be black eyed and split to albino. If you breed offspring to each other you will not be able to tell the black eyed splits from the straight black eyed so best to breed back to albino and then you know all the black eyed offspring are split to albino.

Plant growth or water changes will get rid of nitrate but I wouldn't have thought that level would have been a problem.

I have never kept bluies but chances are that if you put it with a male they will either fight or mate. If they fight you have a male.

Some bore water supplies are chlorinated and manganese (and iron) problems are usually caused by acid water from CO2. Common in swamp country. Aeration will usually fix the problem cheaply.

Mealworms are not their favourite food. They are movement stimulated feeders and mealworms don't move as much as mini mealworms, locusts, crickets etc. I always start mine off on very small mealworms then graduate to to other foods, that way they are not like kids brought up on icecream.

Is the food small enough for a 4 week old to eat?

Let us all never forget how many died through poor decisions and leadership and how terrible war actually is. My father was a good example of military decisions. He volonteered for ground crew in the airforce in 1939 because he had an engineering background, but because he had exceptional night vision they insisted he train as a pilot, but because he was 27 and too old to fly in the battle of Britain he never went overseas. We may have been a bit lucky to win the war with decisions like that.

Is it mouses ear? (Serurus cernuus) It does not grow well submersed, particularly when a well developed plant.
