  1. I have bought offcuts from Mulford Plastics down this way and found them very helpful. They even cut 20 odd peices to size for very little on my last project.
  2. Welcome andenjoy your time here. There are a number of similar minded enthusiasts down this way.
  3. If you have them in a sealed container the incubator will not be able to read the humidity. Around 30 deg C . I don't think beardies are as sensitive to temperature in relation to sex determination as some other reptiles.
  4. You will need to keep them moist and warm. I use vermiculite soaked in warm water and squeezed out until no more water runs out. Place that in a click clack type container and put the eggs carefully onto the media without rotating them, half in and half out. Incubate at 25-32 degrees and open once a week to give fresh air. If any good should hatch in 50-60 days. If thay are partly collapsed they may be no good but keep them anyway until they are opbviously no good then remove. Start getting heaps of live food breeding or be prepared to spend a heap on live food. I take it that you have a pair.
  5. It is probably in the Halswell also---maybe near Greenpark
  6. If you keep reptiles that normally live in your location they will be fine.
  7. How far are you from the Avon River? It has more algae with it if taken from shallow water. It is in the Cam also. If you would like a nice drive head out to Harts creek which goes in to lake Ellesmere (Te Waihora) out the back of Leeston. The water is spring fed, colder, less nutrients and therefore less algae.
  8. It is also where the shops get it from. Make sure you get Elodea canadensis as the other plants called oxygen weed are unwanted organisms
  9. Silicone will not seal the tubing. If you use the right fittings it should seal OK.
  10. The goldfish probably love it and think it is xmas.
  11. I new what the first plant was and the name. Also new the second plant but had forgotten the name. Didn't find any of the nominated sites useful at all. Went to plantgeek--plant guide--plant type and found them straight away. Unfortunatey it did not tell me they were both unwanted organisms.
  12. Heat rises and 10% of heat loss is through the floor and 40% is through the ceiling.
  13. We have a guy down here that uses a heat pump and gets 4 kW of heat for 1 kW of power.
  14. It is all about insulation. Doesn't matter wether you heat with one heater for the whole room or a heater thermostat in each tank the heating (ongoing) costs are the same but it costs a lot more to buy a heater for each tank. The more water you have in there the better because it acts as a heatsink. It costs very little to heat the air. I had a purpose built well insultated fish house with 60 tanks 600x600 and heated by a one bar heater and a fan wired to be on all the time. The element hardly ever came on. Another way is to heat the room to say 22-23 degrees and raise individual tanks with a seperate heater if required.
  15. It takes the same amount of power to heat the same amount of water to the same temperature. Doesn't matter if it is slowly or all at once.
  16. It is not very soluble but I think plants are better off with the lead removed as it tends to strangle them.
  17. Welcome and enjoy your time here.
  18. Bearded dragons-inland and coastal Water dragons Blue tongues where not outlawed by Regionl Council (Auckland etc) leopard geckos Hermans and spur thighed tortoise Frogs-Australian (whistlers, golden and southern bell) Turtles-red eared, snakeneck and reeves NZ native lizards with the correct permits And I am sure there are othes that can be added.
  19. I know someone who was atacked by a large male overseas---reared up and tried to bite the face--very uncute.
  20. Welcome and enjoy your time here
  21. No need to import them they will be here already but still not legal. Last ones I heard of were a young pair costing about $10k which were destroyed. It is possible to get free board and lodging for a couple of years as well as a pretty substantial fine. Best to stick to the legal reptiles I think.
  22. They are not legal, many have been destroyed but no doubt there are a few out there---still not legal. They are cute when small but I understand they can be pretty uncute when mature.
