    Hi there

I own a pair but don't live in wellington. They are slowly waking from a prolonged holiday in cooler climes.
  2. That would be a pretty normal hysteresis for most heater thermostats
  3. I wouldn't worry about a range like that as it will be happening reasonably slowly.
  4. I have used sand in planted tanks for many years and have never used anything to stir the sand. I leave the mulm to feed the plants and only remove it from the surface if it becomes excessive (which is very rarely)
  5. Just awake and deciding if I should get out of bed. Went on for quite a while but no damage and not as violent as others of that magnitude. Located between Dunsandel and the Rakaia river.
  6. Why do you need a sand sifter?
  7. You don't have to have a heat pad, a ceramic heat emitter works OK.
  8. The Regional Council has. They have live young so don't need to incubate eggs.
  9. A year or so.You can add micronurrients in other ways later if you want
  10. I have used it in all my planted tanks with greywacke sand over the top and I have found it a good source of micronutrient in low and high tech tanks.
  11. They are the only legal ones I am aware of
  12. Chinese tend to be more orange on the belly than red
  13. Completely yellow (leucistic/albino) or yellow belly?
  14. It pays to replace the starters about as often as the tubes---they only cost about a buck each.
  15. Sounds like columnaris (also called saddleback and mouth fungus). It is a bacteria and needs to be treated with an antibiotic. Tri sulpha is often used but is a prescription only drug. The easiest to obtain is furan 2.
  16. It is an available source of carbon instead of CO2, not a general fertilizer but it also has algacidal properties. Flourish comprehensive is the fertilizer.
  17. A great meeting again---many thanks to all
  18. It also causes silicosis but since fish don't have lungs it wont be a problem for them. Table salt also contains iodide but in such low concentrations as to be harmless. You can pay more for rock salt if you want but hardly worth the extra coin.
  19. A submersable will avoid air locks or having to prime.
  20. If I remember correctly, it contains meth blue, malachite green and acriflavine and any one of those or all together can be applied directly to finrot. The quinine is realy for parasites.
