RAMS (MIKROGEOPHAGUS RAMIREZI) - KEEPING/BREEDING ARTICLE
LYNDYLOO replied to tracytrout's topic in General Breeding
My Rams breed fortnightly, unfortunately they are in the my Discus Tank so they never survive for long :-( I have thought about moving them into another tank that I have, but not sure I really have the time to put into raising Baby Rams, would like to give it ago oneday though. Good Luck with Breeding your Rams darkfur -
HAS ANYONE GROWN AN ANTHURIUM IN THEIR TANK??
LYNDYLOO replied to tracytrout's topic in Aquatic Plants
No, but I do have one in my Dining Room Hmm maybe I should move it into my Tank  -
I would have suggested trying those two things first aswell. Is the Pleco other wise swimming around as he normally would?? Any other Changes your Sister has noticed?? Water Parameters would be good too if possible.
-
I'm thinking the Kribs maybe the Culprits, they can be aggressive at times, especially if they are breeding. Do you have a pair of Kribs or only one?? So the next question is are they breeding?? Not sure I know the answer to your Glo Light loosing his/her eye if thats the only Fish you have in that Tank.

I have a mixture of Neons and Cardinals Have to say the Cardinals are definitely more hardy, well worth the extra money you have to pay for them :bounce: :bounce:

Wouldn't do the Cold Water Change Amy if you have them in your Discus Tank  Not to sure the Discus will enjoy that. Zucchini would be my food of choice can be in the tank for ages and not cloud the water, peas are good too.

Yes I have to say a good lesson learned I'm so pleased I didn't kill them either Ron, they're all looking very Happy again now :bounce: Loving their Tubifex Worms Will post a photo of them again soon they have grown so much Thanks for all your help guys and girls

Would be good to know what you have in the Community Tank and what other Tetras you have in your Tetra only Tank. Might help with giving us some idea as to who is doing this. The eye socket will heal over in time, just keep an eye on it incase it starts getting some sort of infection in it, if this happens you will have to medicate to control this. Good Luck.

lol Bit of a waste of time I say  Glad I'm not the only one that thinks it wasn't worth while watching

From reading that Link, I'm now thinking my Keyhole is suffering from Abdominal Dropsy, have just been and inspected him/her and now it looks like he/she has dropsy with the scales sticking out like Pinecones. I know I need to treat with Furan2 but I cant get hold of any, as I said in the previous post the petshop here doesnt stock it, pretty useless I think, I dont have any other antibiotic I can treat with  It's not looking good for my Keyhole, he is now sitting in the corner of the tank not looking happy. Thinking maybe I need to euthanise him/her really dont want to prolong his pain

One of my Keyhole Chiclids has developed POPEYE I have been to the Petshop today to buy some Furan2 to treat it with, but the guy at the petshop tells me he has never heard of it, bit of a worry I have to say. Is there anything else I can treat it with, I would hate to lose him or her Any help would be very much appreciated

Hmm  Now you got me thinking about pouring in the Leaf Zone all in one go, I did put 10ml in one side of the tank and the other 10 ml in the other side of the tank, didnt even think about it at the time, but I do remember the Discus coming up to my hand when I placed the Leaf Zone into the Tank, I usually hand feed them Tubifex so they obviously thought they were going to be fed. So I'm now thinking maybe the Leaf Zone has slightly burnt them, as they looked slightly whiteish, with what appeared to be their skin sort of peeling off, they all look good now, happily feeding and swimming around again like they used too.
-
Dont use any water conditioners, so that counts out that problem They are all looking much better today, I'm putting it down to the Leaf Zone, dosed with the normal dose I use and have never had this problem before so not sure quite whats happened, I used 20mls for a 215litre tank. No darkness in Colour that I have noticed, apart from the Snakeskin or Blue Turk (cant remember which one is which now) who is normally fairly dark anyway. Amy: I totally forgort about the Tubifex, been sick for a couple of weeks so never thought anymore about it, will get the Courier Ticket on it's way to you next week, hope that's ok.
-
Not injecting CO2 Will check the PH of the Tap Water, have never had a problem like this before, the only thing I have done differnet is the Leaf Zone, everything is exactly how I normally do water changes twice a week. Discus are looking much brighter this morning, so maybe I will dose with half the dose they recommend for the Leaf Zone next time.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you Southernngirl Hope you have a good one :bounce:

I did a 60% water change in my Discus Tank on Tuesday Night, I do two water changes a week, usually on a Wednesday and Sunday, I filled the Tank with Pre-Heated Water as usual, then Added some Plant Food ( API Leaf Zone) I noticed my Discus looking abit strange last night, they looked as though they had a sort of White Coating over them, they were not looking happy at all last night so did an emergency water change of 60% again, checked the water parameters and everything is fine with that, Temp 29-30 PH 6.6 Ammonia 0 Nitrites 0 Nitrates 10 The Tank stays pretty much the same readings all the time so it's obviously pretty stable. I only thing I can think of is the Discus have had a reaction to the Leaf Zone I put in the tank after the water change, which I dont understand either, I have used this before and they have never had a reaction to it, I usually only dose 1 every couple of weeks. Two of the Discus are sort of swimming lop sided, the coating on the skin seems to be a little better, they dont seem to be a keen to feed as they usually are either :-( they're not Happy chappys. I have concerns I'm going to lose them, I would hate for that to happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Has anyone got any idea why my Two Tanks are going cloudy :-( I have recently installed an AquaOne CF1200 on each Tank, I used the media that I already had running in the built in Filters on the Tanks. One Tank is an AquaOne AR620T 130 Ltrs and the other Tank is an AquaOne AR980 215 Ltrs . I'm thinking both of the Tanks are going through abit of a cycling period, didn't think this would happen if I used the old media that was already being used in the Tanks orginally. Looks like somebody has tipped milk into the Tanks, thought they would be crystal clear with the Filters I am now running. All the media that comes with the Filter has been washed in Tank Water, before the Filter was installed, I replaced more than Half of the Ceramic Noodles that came with the Filter with the Ceramic Noodles that I already had running on the Tanks. All Water parameters are good. Any help would be very much appreciated :-) Lynda
