  1. Thank goodness, I'm not the only one thats had Discus with White Spot Amy, felt terrible when Ron said in the 30 yrs he has been breeding Discus, he has never had any with White Spot, made me feel like terrible mum  White Spot's slowly disappearing now, thank goodness, Discus are all looking fit and healthy :bounce: :bounce:
  2. I'm looking at buying a couple of Automatic Fish Feeders :-? I'm heading down to Wanaka for Easter Weekend, so wont be here for 5 Days to feed my Discus or Community Tank, thought I would maybe invest in an Automatic Fish Feeder. How reliable are they? Are they easy enough to work? Which one is a good brand to get? Any tips would be very much appreciated Lynda
  3. Thanks for the handy hints guys I'm looking forward to getting them up and running
  4. Bought a couple of Aqua One CF1200's yesterday :bounce: :bounce: Hoping to set them up over the weekend Hopefully it wont be to fiddley to fit them into the AquaOne Tank Lids, they certainly dont leave much room for cords or piping.
  5. That would be great if you come across them one day Amy Thanks Heaps Lynda
  6. Looks just like the Checkerboard I got off Ron, when I bought my 5 Discus of him a month or so ago Mine have grown soooo fast, :bounce: :bounce: Have to say Ron does breed beautiful Discus I hand feed them Tubifex Worms they absolutely love them
  7. Thanks guys Just waiting on a price for a couple of Aqua One CF1200's, seems to be more good comments than bad comments on these, so will get a couple and see how they go.
  8. Wasn't really looking at the UV side of it Wok, it just happens to be in built in the Filter I was looking at on Trade Me. The UV light can be turned on or off so it doesnt have to be used if not needed. Lynda
  9. Have medicated with Blue Circle White Spot Cure this morning, used just over 1/2 the doseage it says because of the Clown Loaches, Had a good look at my Clown Loach this morning, he doesnt seem to have any spots on him which I'm very suprised by, normally if any Fish is going to get White Spot it would be the Loaches, my Hoplo's are covered in Spots Rams dont seem to have any White Spot either. Hopefully I'll have it under control in a few days Lynda
  10. Quarantine Tanks dont always do the job they are supposed to do either, I always Qt my fish, now 3 weeks later they have been placed in my Discus Tank and now my Neons and Discus have White Spot   I just wonder if it's better to medicate them while they are in Qt just to be on the safe side, not sure if this is good for the Fish or not though. Lynda
  11. I'm looking at buying a couple of External Filters, The big one I'm looking at does 2400L/H with a built in UV system, I've just been to the petshop and the guy there tells me this filter couldn't do this amount of litres an hour and be filtering it efficiently, is it possible for an External Filter to filter 2400L/H and do a good job or am I better to get one with less litres per hour. He also tells me that Aqua Ones and Fluvals are no good. All I'm wanting is a good filter to put onto my Discus Tank which is 215 Litres, I will be disconnecting the Aqua One built in filter, have to say it doesnt do a terribly good job. I dont no anything about Eternal Filters so any help would be great. Lynda
  12. Going to flag the idea of Rummy Noses in the Discus tank, after the bad run I had with Bilbo's 3
  13. The 3-1-1-1 Fish you are talking about Win, were in a seperate tank altogether so nothing to worry about there. Nothing else in the Discus Tank has white spot but the Discus and Neons, so I think the plan of attack is to treat them in the tank they are in now then once treatment is sucessful, move the Neons into another tank and replace them with Cardinals.
  14. Sounds like a plan Hmm Now how much are 40 Cardinals going to cost me :-? :-?
  15. They chased everything they could phoenix  But now theres no eggs left, everythings back to being rather peaceful again
  16. Quarantined the Neons for 2 weeks at 27 degrees Then acclimatised them to 30 degrees before I put them into the Discus Tank, Chasing of the Neons by the Discus has stopped now and eveything has settled down nicely. If you guys think it might be the Neons causing the Discus stress, then I will move them into my other Tank, the only other Fish I have in there are 5 Bolivian Rams which laid eggs the other Day, I'm sort of wondering if maybe the Discus were stressed from the Bolivian Rams chasing them away from their eggs?? This has now stopped as Mum and Dad ate the eggs. Also have 2 Clown Loaches, 2 Hoplo's and some Corys. Only seems to be the Neons and Discus that have white spot so far, I would have thought the Loach would have had it if any of the fish in the tank but dont get to see him often enough to see if he has it or not. Your thoughts are very much appreciated Lynda
  17. I used to have some Formaldehyde, Will have a look and see if I still have some, then use that with the Malachite Green. The stuff I have is pretty old, havent had to treat any of my fish for what seems like forever, might hold on till tomorrow and get some new stuff, will use abit of Salt for now.
  18. Thats what I dont understand, I have quarantined all of the Fish that I have introduced into this Tank, Really not sure what has caused the White Spot. They seem Stress free, water parameters are good, so I'm stumped really :-? So is it safe to medicate with Wonder Tonic or Malachite Green ?
  19. livingart  Sounds sooo cute
  20. Yes phoenix I am 100% sure it is White Spot My Neons have it too
  21. Yes phoenix I am 100% sure it is White Spot My Neons have it too
  22. I have just finished a Water Change on my Discus Tank, and I have discovered they have dreaded White Spot   I have no idea whats caused them to get it, I thought with the Temp at 30, White Spot wouldn't have had a chance in the Tank, but obviously I'm wrong Whats the best thing to treat my Discus with, are they sensitive to Meds?? I do 30-40% Water Changes on a Wednesday and a Sunday, the water that is put back into the tank is at a similar temp to whats in the tank, all parameters are fine, PH 6.6 Ammonia 0 Nitirite 0 Nitrates 10 As a matter of interest, I'm looking at getting a External Filter with an inbuilt UV light, will this help prevent White Spot? Any help would be very much appreciated Lynda
  23. Give them a few days to settle in and they should be fine. Maybe keep the lights dimmed for a few days too, I found this helped when I first got my new Discus.
  24. I would be tempted to scrap the in built Filter altogether and just run the External, I've got a couple of Aqua One Tanks with the in built filters and I dont find them very efficient at all, Cant be too hard to fit the external filter I wouldnt think, maybe see if you can google an instruction booklet for the model external filter you have. Good Luck Lynda
  25. We also have those up here in Levin, I did a google search on Spiders to see what I could find, but couldn't quite decide what it was, sort of reminds me of a WhiteTail Spider without the white tail, but with extra long legs. Would love to know waht they are too?? Lynda
