  1. you could make a mould of the surface of some real rock, then apply it to any shape artificial rock you make. if you just take a mould of the surface and not the shape, and backed it with wax paper, you wouldnt use much gunk... i used to flat with an artist who whould make moulds from latex, but i guess you could use silicon or similar.
  2. nice i bet its the new boss of the tank
  3. the general recommendation [with deltecs anyway] is to restrict the amount of air being sucked in by the venturi. surele that means that it has more than enough air available on these particular models. i was forcing air into my old modified queen skimmers, which seemed to help a fair bit.
  4. mate get the biggest deltec you can afford. i got an ap850 for my 750l system, and wish i had gone bigger.... i sometimes get the feeling that it is running at its full capacity and could be pulling out more. as far as noise, the 850 is the noisest thing in my setup though...
  5. Alan his contact details are in the sticky on the saltwater section, i copied them from there......
  6. i got one through JSsteve, price was ok. made by this guy If you want the information about the manufacturerer of this RO/DI unit, PM this poster. Thanks. Mod Alan

    New Tank!

how long have you had the CBB in your main tank?
  8. thats a giant mushroom, i got a couple off minchton a few weeks ago. BRIGHT green base with red-brown "hairy" bits. the biggest one expands out to about 10 inches across
  9. same never ran a tank there though. setup lookin sweet mark. i saw minchton's while i was down last week.
  10. now all you need to do is remove all of the silt and iron from the 'naki NSW and you can do water changes
  11. yeah i got an aquamedia cr1000, tunze regulator. doing about 30 bpm at the mo... what about water flow rate through reactor? doing it by ph or ca content or what?
  12. what amount of co2 [bubbles per sec / min] are poeple putting through their reactors?
  13. im gonna take the plunge on this one too, my durso is deafening. i will put the valve outside the tank though. [no kids :] cookie ill have to come see your one, and i'll collect that tenner at the same time as my PBT is still alive
  14. 1 vote for first FNZAS TOTM
  15. man those things are garbage i have 3 of them, but only use them to stir ASW tank lookin sweet man, i give you about 6 months before you go bigger though
  16. freeze-dried pleco nah, its spirulina biscuits with fish meal etc in them
  17. most of the proteins that we need to remove from the water are at the surface, hence the overflow design that is widely used. having good in-tank circulation will ensure that any crap in the water column will eventually end up going over the overflow and into your filtration system.
  18. its quite a small setup, nice as though

    Snails?

they are really good at keeping rock / glass etc clean. i can give you some if you like.
  20. you would lose too much pressure with a spring check valve - you can get other types, specifically a swing-type mechanism, that dont require hardly any pressure to open / close. i had one to use on my return, but opted against it as the seal would probably get gunk on it that would stop it working 100% check water dynamics website, they have the all-plastic swing type ones on there
  21. i have them on a monti about 6-7 months ago, they started eating it from the middle - i noticed a white patch in the centre of it, which kept getting bigger - they were all underneath it. i just removed the monti altogether [its still outside on the porch]. i have just added another one, hopefully there are none left in the tank.
  22. ewwwww.... i have noticed a siimiliar thing with someo of my fish at night - particularly the chromis... havent noticed it with my tangs or clowns though

    AR980

initially, you could get away with: some rock a cheap-ish skimmer a couple of grunty powerheads for current any maybe use a canister for carbon - dont use them as you would on a freshwater tank, with all the filterwool bioballs etc. if i was starting again, i would avoid sand for the first few months, and have heaps more current in the tank, along with as good a skimmer as i could afford - try to get one second hand.
