  1. soz, M$ ISA server is shit  try the links again now.. it will work sweet for sand, as long as you have enough flow through there to move it. i have tried it with that oolitic [round] coral sand, as it seems to move easier against itself than aragonite which has flat edges and sharp corners..
  2. i have 1kg of carbon in it. i originally bought this lot to do a fluidised sand filter, but then realized i didnt really need one I have seen carbon / zeo reactors similar but a bit smaller [the zeo ones are set up so you can lift out the media and shake it]. the pic is still there isnt it? heres some full size pics http://blowfish.co.nz/mr/1.jpg http://blowfish.co.nz/mr/2.jpg http://blowfish.co.nz/mr/3.jpg
  3. just putting the perspex on baking paper on an oven tray worked fine - it stays really bendy [and really hot] for ages after you take it from the oven - when you sit it on the PVC pipe [with a layer of baking paper in between] it wraps to the exact shape of the pipe. dont have a link for the design, i just made it up as i went i moulded the perspex on the outside of the pipe, then installed it inside the pipe - as it is more than 180 degrees, it kinda pushes itself into place quite well - i only had to silicon it to seal it, not to hold it in place. its 500 high, 100mm PVC pipe. 2x endcaps perspex is 3mm, approx 350x250 1xhansen 15mm tank fitting 1x25mm tank fitting some elbows, and some 15mm pipe. inside the reactor, i attached a kind of shower head thingee to the 15mm pipe so the media doesnt siphon back up the pipe and into the impellor if the power goes off.
  4. built a media reactor from 100mm pipe and some hansen fittings managed to make a window from perspex by putting a sheet in the oven at 150c and bending it around the pipe when hot, then sealing with silicon. i am running carbon in it at the mo, and the outlet feeds my skimmer. [saltwater tank]
  5. :-? one of the more expensive things that has been flushed down my toilet..... wasp, that orange acro has gone back to orange in my new tank it seems to have dark [maybe purple - cant tell yet] rims around the polyps too. its growing well, as are the others. the crabs are still there in the one i got from you
  6. its interesting that they would ban any marine fish in a land-locked country - its not like they can be released anywhere and threaten native species is it?
  7. it didnt float it sunk im picking it was one of the asia-captured ones, apparently the australian-captured ones are much more likeky to adapt, due to better [net] capture techniques rather than chemical  and better handling. it seemed like this copperband was actually blind - kept hitting rocks / corals, wouldnt flinch when you moved your hands suddenly in front of it etc. not sure if this was caused by the way it was caught or if it was crook already before capture...
  8. i have a clarks clown, does the same - luckily it usually goes for a silver bracelet that i wear, as opposed to the skin. its small [7cm] at the mo, when it gets bigger i bet it will draw blood. it never did this before i got it an anemone.
  9. yeah mine is on a million-year old room-sized rug. it has had dozens of litres of [mostly dirty] saltwater on it. no skimmer spills yet though
  10. im in, bring frags we could prob even carpool, save on gas and parking hassle. any weekend is good for me, donk know about others

    tank pic*1

sweet how are the seio pumps working out? can you run them on full without them rattling?
  13. why are you using a canister on a marine tank? a skimmer and live rock is the best filtration system for salt water [most will agree], using a canister with filterwool/bioballs etc will cause nutrient problems
  14. im about to use baking soda to raise dkh. anyone have any pointers or warnings? using http://www.kademani.com/reefchem.htm as a guide for dosage amounts. anyone know the equation to convert meg/l into kh? what are peoples opinions of the ideal meg/l alkalinity level?
  15. http://www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/council/documents/safeswim/ looks like they only test for enterococci bacteria though...
  16. I think ill do some work in there to make it a bit safer first, prob put it in there this weekend. the fish doesnt seem to be in to bad a condition, but i guess its hard to tell until theyre floating....
  17. i could put him in the sump as opposed to a seperate tank, waddaya rekon wasp? might be a bit dicey in there for it..... sump is 90x45x45cm
  18. mite give that a go... will need to run a tank linked to the main system, as i dont have the resources to do a completely seperate setup like your garage. if it was easy it wouldnt be fun.... :-?
  19. dont imagine it would make much difference if its only a few degrees
  20. "War Wrecks Of The Coral Sea" is on rotation on animal planet - sky ch.52 at the mo. alot about marine life on wrecked boats & planes
  21. 3 or 4 weeks, i presume that it wasnt eating in quarantine either. got it as soon as it came into the shop. [saw you leave from dropping it and other stuff off]
  22. mine are about 4.5cm bulb - glass.
  23. copperband still swimming, havent seen him eat anything yet but there is plenty for him in there. he seems heaps more active when the lights go off.
