  9. lol  this fish stuf is risky
  10. oh gosh.. lol will have to tell my bf me spilling a little bit of water doing water changes is not a bad thing considering what u all do to your floors. lol... classic.. i hope u have lots of spare towels
  11. cute fishys, they will settle down soon i hope as it is nice having more then just boris in a tank. with the feeding try get the chocs to feed down at one side of tank and boris at the other. we have found this helps a bit as it takes our arow a bit oftime to relise there is more food coming in at other side..
  12. its tricky with arows and tank mates expecialy at that size. A few months ago we got a full grown bornio tigger, they seem to get along fine but the arow gobbles all the food so we realy have to target feed the bornio. Also the bornio allways has scrapes and cuts on it so there must be some territorial problems. Our tank is 7x2x2 and has 3 big bit of drift wood in it and no plants (arow pulls them up) only fish are the arow who is 2 foot long, a big pleco and the bornio. We also have two big canaster filters and water change (syphon) every week as the bio load of the 3 big fish are huge.
  13. this is my oreo.. he like the fish too
  14. oh the joys of big fish.. we put a whole plastic tub in the tank to catch the buggers.. i have not seen a fish bag that would fit half of our fish . next time just lift and tip the chilly bin. and sad to say u will eventualy have to move the arow agen as 6 foot tank it a bit small fot a active big fish... your tank sounds nice what elce in in with the aro and do u have any pics? i love seeing diffrent arow homes.
  15. Keep a close eye on your fishy.. try offer her some pellets, they are diffcult to teach to eat diffrent food. your best bet would Be to keep feeding her ( i think she can be a her to meany men in this world) pellets and slowely introduce the shrimp. also if she is not used to getting live food then it will take her a wile to learn about it. i also recomend u bread your own live food so u dont introduce andy nastlys to your fish. saldy we have seen it happen for now untill she is settled try keep the room the tank is in as quiet as possible and if she startes looking stressed (couler loss ect) turn the lights off and leave in the dark. another thing u might wantto start trying to feed all your pretitory fish is mussle. u can get them frozen in bags (like shrimp) just thaw then and chop them up. we have founf feeding pellets (arow) to our arows have hugely helped with coulering then up and also its a stable diet and then things like shrimp, mussle is added on to a few days a week. The reason we do this is because it keeps the tank a bit cleaner (what filter u got, how big the tank) and also to much fat is very bad for the digestive system on the arows (ours even eat peas). Im sorry for your loss of ur other arow. how big was he?
  16. Nope at least a 8x2x2 foot tank but bigger it better...
  17. we have a 2 foot long silver..and a jardini hes only about 10-15 cm there are still some jardinis at hollywood fish farm in albany (auckland)selling at $500 (same as we have) they are still quite small.... either there or from the person selling his on trademe ($500 full grown).. you wont be getting one eazy as they are not alowed in newzeland anymore we are on the list to get a black one but we been waiting a year already. Also how big is the tank... i would not go smaller then a 5x2x2 foot with the inteshion of a big upgrade with in a year - 1.5 years. our silver is in a 7x2x2 and i want a bigger tank for him
  18. OH NO !!!! the photos arnt working and i soo soo want to see.
  19. fish already in.. i did it backwards .. thee is a black ghost, bisher, 8 big tetras and a few gorumies (cant spell sorry).... nice big bits of wood and a few stones...
  20. most saltys would say a 3 foot tank will be a good size to start with.. so dont sell it just yet..
  21. A year and a bit ago i desided the size of my big tank.. I desided to go 4x2x2foot as i wanted it nice a deep.... When planing the tank i never thorght about how i was going to reach the back , being just under 5 foot and having short little everything planting the back of my tank today was interesting  I did not just get my arm wet. I got my sholder, chest and nose wet... oh and my but length hair ended up in there too. Realy dont want to do that in winter, but today it was nice and warm. This is my first planted tank so when the dust settles i will try get some pics. Im feeling rather proude of my self. Now let hope i can keep then alive.
  22. ok so a baby fish is called a fry and lots of baby fish are still called fry..... i think i got that down pat
  23. keep a eye on the eel make sure he does not get any skin infections from sores the knife might of caused.. we lost our big eel in two days as the infection progressed very rapidly...
  24. yes lunch .... they can eat musles and shrimp from a young age just chop it up in small bits ..they will also start to hand feed quickly. i love eels soo soo cute
  25. i have found that if u feed the eels they do grow fast.. it only took us about a year to get our fire eel to be about a foot and a half long. Feed them shrimp and mussles and they grow huge.... Also on the keeping more then one togeather i would say no.. not worth the risk of them killing each other at a later date.
