  1. so, should I look at putting down a layer of peat first (how much and where do you buy it from?) followed by some fertiliser, then silica sand on top?
  2. Where abouts did you purchase the sand from? and how much was it? Yeah I have got 1 of the Hargen co2 thingy's but am also going to try a DIY one conecting it to my internal filter and see how that goes.
  3. Hi, Im wondering what a good cheap base for growing aquatic plants would be? I've seen some at LFS for $49.95 (can't remember the name) is there anything else that is suitable for a cheaper price? I will be having silica sand over the top of it. Any help would be great Thanks
  4. Yeah thats kinda what im thinking...surely if I have it well planted with enought hiding spaces it might be ok.. haha its funny you mention that cause i have been looking on the net and now thinking about changing my mind back to a Tanganyika looking biotype! ahhhh decisions , decisions!
  5. Hi all, Well im needing some help. I have a 3ft tank and also a hexagon tank (which I was about to sell!) Now i've just moved house on the weekend and transferred the existing fish I had( some small clown loaches, corys, cardinals, couple of blue rams)from the 3ft tank into the hex tank... Anyway for some reason my fish seem pretty happy in there...especially the clown loaches. So i've decided to keep it as is. So now I was thinking about changing the 3ft tank into a Cichlid tank. However im wanting it to be planted as well and from what i've read its not gonna happen if i want the plants to grow.... So my question is can I set up and tank with dwarf cichlids eg Rams, Cockatoo's, Kribs etc? will they got ok together and what numbers and dwarf cichlids would be suitable? Any ideas would be great....sorry about the long story!!! Thanks

    Help !

Yeah all my other fish seem fine and I haven't noticed any other coming to the surface. I have a 120 litre tank with 1 Male betta, 3 kuhli loaches, 1 plec, 3 clown loaches , 1 dwarf gourami, 14 cardinal tetra's and 5 Cochu blue tetra's ( was 6 but 1 jumped out!) and 6 black neon tetra's. The Red tail shark seemed really friendly from what I have read about them. Rarely did it go any chasing. Just keeped to itself.

    Help !

Hi, The other night my red tail black shark died and just wanting to know if anyone has any advice why. I did do a 20 % water change 2 days before but all my other fish seem to be fine. I did notice the day before it died it was hanging around the top of the tank which it doesn't often do and its color had slightly faded. I purchased a Male Betta about 2 weeks ago and I noticed he was chasing the shark around quiet alot. Could it of been from stress because of that? any help would be great Thanks
  8. I received my Riccia yesterday also. Thanks again, greatly appreciated. Have been looking for that stuff for a little while so your a saviour!
  9. Hey. Just updated my profile... haha I have also just put a new bid on trademe for a larger tank so fingers crossed.
  10. Haha not sure about being over stocked. They are all small at the moment and seem to have enough room, and I have been doing ammonia checks and its been nil. Its funny you say that though cause i had the tank for maybe 3 weeks when I decided I want a bigger one. At the moment though im saving up for a holiday to Queenstown in September but a much larger tank is on the cards as soon as I get back.
  11. Hi All, Just new to this site. I have a 120L tropical tank with 3 clown loaches, 3 kuhli Loaches, 1 dwarf cobalt blue gourami, 14 cardinal tetras, 8 black neon tetras, 6 cochu blue tetras, 1 Plec, 1 red tail black shark and have recently added a Siamese fighter who is getting a little scrappy with my Gourami but nothing too serious. I have also just set up a co2 cannister. I was wondering if anyone has any Riccia they don't want or that I could buy? Or maybe some xmas moss? Any help or feedback on growing live plants would also be appreciated. Thanks
