  1. Seriously bro I have a one eyed baby GBA here, wouldn't be hard to make it no-eyed...
  2. Looks like a GBA with no eyes. Could be easily faked...
  3. MAF quarantine varies depending on how busy they are. I could tell you a couple horror stories about unnecessary destruction but will settle your mind with a rough average MAF Q-time I've had over the last year instead - 2 weeks.
  4. I'd figure the main issue wouldn't be the power cut it would be making sure everything is running properly when the power comes back on. I often find canister filters or air pumps that need fiddling with when power is restored, particularly when dealing with sumps or other advanced systems. We don't know each other very well but happy to help if needed.

Hi everyone, We bought a house 2 1/2 years ago and when winter hit we had major problems with condensation, mold, dust mites, and our fish room was on new carpet so we had to run a dehumidifier in the room to dry out any spills. The 2000+ litres of water which included a 400L open topped tank was a big contributor. After the system was installed the lessened condensation was immediately noticed and after a few days we no longer had weeping windows. The mold was cleaned and didn't return and pretty soon I noticed that spills dried out of the carpet without the dehumidifier running.... the dehumidifier was costing about $75 a month in electricity so this was a welcome discovery. The only downside to the HRV system was that the leaves from the sword plants growing out of the planted tank soon died. 100% sure that this was due to the air becoming too dry but with all the pros this was a con that I was happy to live with. Not sure if they still give a 2 winter guarantee but we're about due on ours and we're keeping it. Thanks Bilbo and HRV.
  6. Wow, what a great guy. I've hung out with Eddie at two conferences now and he's a good guy and a nice bloke. Truly a character with a good bunch of friends in the fish circle that love him dearly. It's always sad to hear about someone being afflicted with a stroke but it's good to hear that his mental faculties aren't very affected. We wish him the best with a speedy recovery and hope to see him at next years conference in the Coromandel, even if it means pushing a wheelchair through the dunes for him! Best wishes mate, and god bless.
  7. Black vinyl is what I used and highly recommend to anyone thinking about a background. Applies easily with some water and detergent and is permanent until you decide to remove it. If you get proper 3M stuff it won't even leave a residue when removed.
  8. It's generally 100% plus shipping plus GST.
  9. I would only feed oats if mixed in with home-made discus tucker. I've never tried it or heard of it being done but hey, it's not much different from the wheatbix we put in out discus tucker for stability so why not?
  10. Complete pain to clean. Difficult to see eggs when dropped as well. Recommend heaps of moss or if you're determined to go artificial make a mesh from 1mm stainless steel mesh. It's a little expensive but worth every penny for a good spawning tank.
  11. Discus do best when in a group of 6 or more. By adding your adult discus your problems with the smaller ones may go away, but you need to make sure that they still get lots of food and daily water changes. If you find that the smaller discus are bullied by the larger ones then definitely separate them, but as long as you're giving all the discus the necessary care for the babies and there's little to no agression you should be sweet as and have lots of healthy fish.
  12. I may be old fashioned but why build an extra support for the camera? I would imagine that attaching it to the wing would be better support, keep it clear of the propeller and reduce drag. That said, VERY cool... I'll keep my eyes on the sky

    Stringy poos

Stringy poos is a sign of spironucleus infection rather than worms. Treatment is with Metronidazole as per this website - http://article.dphnet.com/cat-02/spiron ... Treatments
  14. Lower the water level by half to give the glosso extra light. White sand would have been better for reflecting light but that black sand looks choice!
  15. Ideal temp is 24? News to me. I keep mine at 20-22. They are at most marginally tropical and prefer shallow cool water from my experience. Very active fish and my adults are all very shy. The juveniles that are raised separately from the adults are very outgoing and rush to the front of the tank for feeds, still can't get a decent pic tho!
  16. I've got heaps but most have already been neatly posted on here with Planetcatfish links and everything... can't seem to find rcons old catfish photo thread though....

    daphnia

Sounds like you have a cyclops colony in your tank. The baby fish should clean them up soon
  18. Decap all the way for the GBAs. You can add a drop of water to the decap before feeding and it sinks immediately. Not sure about the killies but don't knock decap over live food til you've tried it. Baby discus weren't supposed to eat anything except BBS but I've proven that decap is better.

    discus

white things on the body or poos? Either way it sounds like "Hole In The Head" - Spironucleus - so do a little reading on this site. http://article.dphnet.com/cat-02/spironucleus.shtml
  20. All good, the effort was appreciated anyways I think it just wasn't meant to happen if the seller can't help with meeting you when you have such a long drive with a toddler to deal with. Plenty more fish in the sea and I hope the trip was good for you! Safe driving tomorrow!
  21. All sorted, cheers and thanks to that special someone that helped so quickly!
  22. Hi everyone, Tinytawnykitten is in Auckland at the moment and a friend of mine needs to get a hold of her asap to collect fish for transport down to WGTN (this was already set up, not a last ditch attempt) but she hasn't answered her PMs since Friday. If you know her cell number can you please ask her to contact me on 027 553 1656 or Martin on 021 644 415? Thanks in advance! Blue
  23. I mentioned before I had 2 Corrals in my drawer. Turns out there's three. $65 for the lot which means you can flick one off and have a freebie. Yup, you nailed the answer - siphon daily. This is something that should be done whether feeding live or decap. The good news is the decap doesn't foul the water nearly as much as live BBS does though. I found that adding a baby BN or GBA to each fry tank takes care of uneated food as they do a great job of finding the leftovers
  24. I still have two of the Brine Shrimp Corrals sitting in a drawer for $25 each if anyone is interested. Used for a trial and while the initial results were great they turned out to be difficult to clean and the BBS didn't seem to find their way out properly half the time. The suckers that support the wall bracket are pointless and bits have been reported to break off very easily (air hose connection) even though this hasn't happened to me. I then switched to decap and trialed it for nearly a year before importing it for others. Great stuff, check my feedback on TM or ask on here - aaron-betta, how do you like it so far? My usual auctions are $15 for 50g, $33-35 for 150g and the 454g container is no longer available - low on stock already! I can NOT sell through FNZAS only on TM so please don't PM me about it, cheers

    PH Meter

They work fine as long as you keep them maintained and calibrate them often. Sorry to burst the TM bargain bubble but you can buy them at your local DSE for that price and with a warranty - they're often on special down from $120 - but if you're in a rush go for it.
