    New Tank

Soz, I thought you meant digital thermometer as in http://www.trademe.co.nz/Home-living/Pe ... 811379.htm like the one I use (got it for $12 from the LFS though). Would you mind telling me the brand and model of the heater? I'll google it and tell you if you can put the whole thing under, like most aquarium heaters.
  3. Howdy MRSkz, I'm from California. Raised there, actually, but it's all the same. I was in the Marines with quite a few texans and know they're good people. How'd you find your way to Invercargill? Gold hunting? Just playing. I'm new in the scene here (though we've lived in NZ for almost 2 years) and have found the people here to be great. You're going to have a bit of a hard time getting fish down there (aside from your LFS) so stick with it. Nicetameetcha, have a good one!
  4. Hi all, Blue and Kim here. We're just getting into fish here in WGTN and keen to the next club meeting. I suppose we'll have the tank all set up by then, but looking fwd to meeting all of you!
  5. Yo deeveus, I thought you had saltwater tanks? Would this plant even survive in saltwater? Then again, you probably have some fresh tanks about, aye?

    New Tank

non-submersible heater? That's a first.... they must not know how to water-proof in Canada The stick-on thermometer won't come off once you put it on. Well, it will come off, but you won't be able to use it again. Digital thermometer should go somewhere in the tank that has a good water flow and isn't next to the heater. Good luck!

    Hi from Wellington

Heya Billaney, We moved here from Holland two years ago. Kim has no experience with fish keeping in the past, but until 10 years ago I kept everything fresh from livebearers to exotics to discus. It's taken a while to get back into, but with our new tank, I think we're going to love it. Kim already caught the bug, hehe Blue

    Hi from Wellington

Quick replies, nice to see! Shae, I understand you breed killifish. Is that your golden killis on TradeMe? Anthony, I'm in Mt. Cook. Walking distance to anything... except fish shops. Snowman, are there local Welly clubs? Point the way, I'm keen! So, looking like cichlids will be joining the tank. Probably some electric yellows... seem placid enough....
  9. Hi all, we're new to aquariums in NZ and just setting up a 3ft show tank. So far we've gone from Discus (too much trouble, we're trying to keep it tame) to a African community tank and that might still change as we're still waiting for the tank to cycle before adding fish. So far we have picked out a network syno (featherfin catfish) and a leopard ctenopoma (spotted climbing perch) and thinking about some Congo Tetras and perhaps a cichlid or two in there. Any ideas/suggestions? Any local fishkeepers in the Wellington area give us a shout if you have any interesting african fish (or something else that might be suited) that we might be keen on. Good meeting you all, great community and the forums are great! Blue and Kim
  10. A bit vague... I wonder what exactly this guy knows about the tank at all? Pretty cool with the TV right under the tank, but a bit distracting dontchathink? Starting bid is 4500, I'm sure his reserve is at least twice that...
