MAFia at it again!

People who import fish and plants are generally doing it to make a living. There are many varieties of fish and also plants for which there is a limited market and high risk or just high risk so importers don't bother with them. If people were prepared to pay for the five importations that are lost as well as the ones that survive they would probably relook at the issue, but naturally people are not.

the major thing will be if they can carry anything that can infect our native crustaceans both in fresh and marine environments

you have some people who have put their hands up now find a specialist, talk to simian

start researching diseases carried by these shrimp and are they already present in nz

I reckon get a big shipment of flame moss or similar, that'll be full of shrimp. 2 in 1, see? Smart.

And that is why you cannot import plants without going through an importer. Hitchikers and the likes that potentially desecrate our beautiful country.

So guy, its easy to talk, whos actually doing anything to try??? Mwah hah ha ha

Let me know when you are successful and Ill travel to shake your hand.

NIWA was doing some work on which native aquatic plants would work in tropical aquaria (more info somewhere on the FNZAS site)

= a bunch of plants new to the trade + no importy costs + absolutely no risk to NZ biodiversity

Why is everyone so keen to import these *risky* expensive exotics when there is so much here that they have no idea about? sigh
