  1. As some of you would of read, Helen and I have started a native tank. It measures 76x40x36 and is filtered by a Fluval 3 internal filter. It has no lighting at the moment. Current occupants are 4 Freshwater cray's (hoping to rehome 2 of them), 2 suspected Crans Bullys, and 3 unidentified bullys They were all collected about 30 minutes west of Huntly on a farm where we were staying The creek Bullys in the wild I know it is hard to see but at the end of the red arrows is a cray, just seconds after the picture was taken it walked straight into the net Crans Bully back in the tank This Cray wasent going to let be get a pic of the others I will post pictures of the full tank and other fish as soon is i can get some decent one's..
  2. Pretty much as the title says, are the Apistos that AMAZONIAN is selling, and have turned up in a few shops wild caught. I was told by one of the shops that they are, but i always thought they were just aquarium strains. Cheers
  3. my crays love whiteworms too
  4. As ant said, Bare bottom IS alot easyer to keep clean, and for fry to find bbs. Some fish are individuals, so just keep an eye on them, and try and cater for there needs (hope that made sense) Dont forget to post some pics here
  5. I always start a pair of apistos in a 30x30x30 (60x30x30 with a glass devider siliconed in) bare, with just a sponge filter, clump of java moss and somthing to breed in (salt pot, flower pot etc), ive had alot of luck with this setup, but with some fsh it becomes obvious that they will need more hiding places (scrapping etc). As Antwan said, Congrats on the purchases, you wont regret it 8)
  6. Very nice, there are alot of dull badis in the shops, I will be shure to get a pair/trio if i find some as nice as those Did you find any info on breeding behavior?
  7. lol, i have made many of those. All sounds promising.. fingers crossed
  8. I would think 23 would be too cold Good luck with them, they are cool fish 8)
  9. lol, i have a few of those, but im not to proud of them
  10. Ok, my new fish Apistogramma Viejita Male Female
  11. Ive ID'd the larger 2, they are Crans bully's. I come to this conclusion because of the orange strype on the top of the first dorsal fin. Im now trying to tell weather the 3 smaller fish are juvenile of the same species or another species, im leaning towards another species.. the tank they are in dosent have a light on it yet so pics are hard to get. Highest the tank got today was 22, im happy with that, it was a dam hot day 8)
  12. Yea, soapy water is good Good luck
  13. No probs Angus, i dident know better, that is just what i was told... i haven't used a sodastream bottle, but a JBL bottle that is the same size as one of those standard (old) bottles (300 grms from memory) Ive upgraded to a 3kg bottle now 8)
  14. At a guess, id say there is a leak somewhere else, i used standed airline when i had a sodastream sized bottle, and i was getting about a month out of it. What type of bubble counter are you using??? i found it hard to seal home made ones. HTH P.S Yes to the thread tape, even if you dont need it, it doesn't hurt
  15. Ok, have had a look here and Cant seem to find out what bully i have will try and get some pics of it in the tank, and some pics of what i think may be another species too.
  16. I have just come back from camping, and got 6 Crays, and 5 Bullies, I had a tank going for them long before i left, and have introduced them, bit im curious, what temperature are we going to have to keep them at, Im not sure i can do much more than keeping them in one of the coldest rooms in the house.... Any other advise will be welcomed. will try and get some pics up later..
  17. Do you have dithers in your tank?????? that would give them a constant threat, and they wouldn't be so surprised when you walk in. All my breeding tanks are divide with glass, and sealed, so the dithers are the pair in the next tank. The panduro spend ALOT of time squabbling with the fish next door. You can try a one or 2 pencil fish, but then there is risk of fry straying and getting eaten. Last time i used dithers in the same tank, was with a pair of blue rams over a year ago, and i used 2 young swordtails as dithers. It worked great, the rams had free swimmers, until i gave them a treat of white worms, while the rams where having the WW, the swords helped them selfs to a treat of baby rams
  18. Well done, looks like you will have to be a bit quicker next time, and beat them to the eggs
  19. Depending on the width of your 4foot tank, i would say maybe 3-4 species, as long as they are all males (so there are no females to get testosterone levels up) and all have there own hiding place... at one stage in my 120x50x50 i had 2x Macmastri, 2x Sp.steel blue, 4 Cockatoos and 1 Trifasciata. Like i say, Hiding places are the key, so they can develop territory's if they desire
  20. Alot depends on size of the fish, filtration and how often you want to do water changes My 300L has: 6 Discus 12 blue/1gold/1bolivan ram's 4 Cockatoos 7 Harliqun rosboras ~10 Neon's ~7 Kuhli loachs 2 Black line flying fox's 1m/6f Fighters 3 Rummy's 5 Swordtails 8 Bronze corys 1 Panda cory 4 BN's Im shure that is all, the tank is planted and the filtration is 1500LPH, with a lot of media. HTH
  21. I don't find Apistos that aggressive, In most cases, they are not to bad as long as they have there own territory, and don't put too many species in the one tank. They do squabble a bit, but doesn't often end in harm.... all of my deaths have occurred when trying to breed them, and the male kills the female, or female kills the male. I know some other people have had Horror experiences but it hasn't been like that with my fish. HTH
  22. Come on people, im sure antwan and i aren't the only ones with pictures of Dwarf Cichlids to share?????? Update on mine.... Cockatoo fry i setup in a breeding tank... they wernt too keen on the panduro next door: Apistogramma panduro: Apistogramma Pebas:
  23. I too have seen the list, with pics, the fish will be released mid January..... Cant wait :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  24. Sorry AMAZONIAN to hijack your thread, but i now have free swimmers, the PH was 6.4 and the GH was 40ppm. She just brought them out to show us tonight. I have to give a whole lot of credit to antwan for getting these fish in such great condition before passing them on to me...
