  1. I would think they are at maximum, 2.5-3.5 cm's, and we think we have a mixture of male and females, as there is a definite difference in the dorsal fin shape
  2. It says here "Found in fresh and brackish water in the lower courses of rivers" so i would assume that if they are found in fresh water, then they will be fine in a fresh water aquarium. they have turned out to be very sociable fish, schooling tightly, and always at the front of the glass, cant wait to feed them some blood worms 8)

  8. Male Mac's are in a number of lfs these days, but females are very hard to come by, and they dont seem to be the easyest to breed eather. But if you can get a female Mac, good luck, they are nice fish, and it would be nice to see Macmasteri more readly avalible :bounce:
  9. Welcome It is nice to see another discus keeper in Hamilton :bounce: If you come along to the Waikato Aquarium Socitey auction, there might be some nice young discus there (if you are wanting to add to your colection) See http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/waikat ... 13812.html for details
  10. Id just like to say a big thankyou to all the Western Bay members that were so welcoming when dave and i snuck over the kaimai's. It is great to see such an enthusiastic group of fish keepers. Im shure it wont be the last time we make the trip

  14. regretably i dident say somthing, i am not 100% shure they where gambusia, but i whoud be very suprised if they where anything but.. and afer all who would put unknown fish in a tank and put on with large writing "GAMBUSIA"
  15. Work took me to the Aucklands northshore today, and i was a few hours early, so i fulled in the time by going to a coupple of the LFS. At one of them i found to my shock, a tank full of gambusia . They were selling them 10 for $5.00. I do not believe that the staff in this well knowen shop do not know that this fish is a pest. Is there some loophole that they can sell as live food??? or somthing else i dont know about???? It seems odd that this shop would take such a risk :-?
  16. Its a shame you both missed it. It was a great meeting (thanks Dave and Shannon) Hope to see you both at the next one :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
