  6. Yes, Caryl, my kitchen is small but I'm sure I can get the tank in there. But I'm trying to find a stand right now. Some financial situations came up (still no perm job) so back to planning this slowly and as I can afford it Caper
  7. So all my tanks have a metal frame on the top and bottom. So it's not just glass sitting on stand. Does this make a difference in the amount of rocks or if you can use rocks at all??? I'm just planning on a few rocks if I can get some once the weather gets warmer and I head to the beach. Would like to try and silicone some together :-? 8) Caper

    Petshop rant

yaromochi wrote: Maybe the freshwater section wasn't the best place for this thread but I don't think they are ridiculous. After all, I know I learned something! I mean we all know there are much worse things going on in our world than worrying about the service a person may or may not get at a lfs. But this is a fish forum, and one that is open for all to question, learn, voice opinions, and yep, even rant from time to time. I know that my kids think I'm fish crazy sometimes and would probably think even more so if they read some of my posts   Maybe some "non-fishy" people reading any of this forum would think lots of us are ridiculous for even caring about fish. Just my thoughts, so please don't shoot me Caper
  10. Suphew wrote: This has me thinking from the thread on pet shop rant. I'm curious to know if all people use separate tools (e.g. nets) for each of their tanks. Not sure how to go about this but here goes: From everything I read (here & books) each tank should have their own "supplies". So, what is the difference in putting a bag (not the water inside the bag) from one tank to another and using a net from one tank to another? Apparently some dry out their quarantine/hospital tanks when they are not in use. So, the question here is what about the filter if you use one? Where do you get the water from for the quarantine/hospital tank...from another tank? I've read where some people keep a spare filter running on, say a main tank, and use that if they have to set up a quarantine/hospital tank. Now, what happens to that filter when the q/h tank is no longer needed? Do you just give it a good clean? Throw out the filter media and start over? Caper

  17. Each summer the drag races are held here on one of the runways at the airport (very small airport). Anyway, the last couple of years there must have been airshows going on somewhere else and they (F18's) landed/took off from the airport here. They flew over a few times giving us a bit of show...they were awesome to say the least :bounce: :bounce: Caper

  19. Well, it is more than obvious that Lucky was very much loved, something that some animals never experience. My heart goes out to you. I had a dog, Tippy, who I had to have put down many years ago. I can still cry today because of the love I had for my little pet. But I did what I knew was best for him and it sure sounds like you did what was best for Lucky. I lost my beloved Puffball (cat) and still miss him so much. Unfortunately I never did find out what happened to Puffball which only made it worse. Lucky...was lucky to have an owner who truly loved him. Take care, Caper PS wonderful poem Southerngirl (missed a few r's)

  22. Thanks all Oh yah, can't wait whetu!! I don't have a level place outside to do this so a bit nervous to take it outside. imsweet, the first day of spring just the other day and we have had lots of sun. However, with that said out weather can change so fast especially this time of year so again, nervous to do outside. So, okay yes Caryl this a new tank (still in box). I was wondering if I put blankets underneath it and do clean it in my kitchen that way I could slowly add water and watch for leaks and because I'd be using my vacuum that attaches to the tap I could also empty much easier and faster, do you think it's worth a try as opposed to outside where gosh only knows how fast the weather could change plus it is still quite cold. Caper
  23. Oh my gosh, it's been awhile since I had ottos but I thought I had them in with the barbs before, but I could be wrong :-? :-? hmmm, but I thought I did with no problems, geesh hate when I can't remember! Why do you not suggest they go with the barbs? I've asked the pet store if they were getting bristlenoses in and they said they were trying. But they haven't been able to get the ottos so I'm not holding out hope. More often than not I do weekly water changes. It's the rare occasion that they've been stretched out further since I don't go away very often. Caper
