  3. That's what I noticed, seems to be well kept. Is this breeding set up just for discus, if so WOW! Caper
  4. Sorry can't help since I don't have cichlids. Hope you find out what is going on and he/she gets better? phoenix asked a few questions which might help others determine what maybe happening. So, maybe you can give as much info as possible, including tank size, what is in the tank, how long it's been set up, notice if any other fish has been giving this one a hard time...things like that might help others in figuring out what might be going on. 5. Ewwwwwww, you are much braver than I am Caryl. I wouldn't even want to be in the same room as snakes *shutters* Caper

  7. Something I said numerous times in the last 12 years since my marriage ended; "I didn't know so many people lived with us". Obviously many since soooooooo many knew all about our life together!!!   Caper

  10. The pic with you all sitting at the table...you can see the twinkle in your Mom's eye...you just know she's having an awesome time. Great pics! The pic where some kind of fish/shell fish or whatever was being sold for 19.80...what were they? In the second pic of the goldies, in the right hand side it looks like stacks of...of what?? Great to hear you're all having a great time!! :bounce: :bounce: Caper
  11. Ok, as you can see from when this was first posted this "sitting on the bottom" has been going on for quite sometime now. It's a real mystery because he doesn't do it all the time, ah, but quite a bit. He sits quite close to the glass so I use a magnifying glass to see if I can see anything out of the ordinary on him but he "looks" ok. However, today I noticed that while he's on the bottom he is, ah, how to describe...well I guess I would have to say kinda of gasping or as if he's looking for food but just sitting there. The other goldie Beauty is the same as always. I haven't tested the parameters in a couple of weeks but they never seem to change. I'm keeping up with the water changes. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions, obviously I can't treat him since there is absolutely nothing to indicate what I'd be treating him for. Okay tested (have to pick up a new nitrite: ammonia = 0 pH = b/w 7.4-7.6 nitrites = b/w 5 & 10 (leaning more towards the 5 though) The only change in this tank (as in all my tanks) I had cut down the feeding to once every second day. So, I thought that maybe since Sam was blind he wasn't getting what he needed food wise so I increased the feedings back to everyday, but no change. I have also tried the 3 days no food, 3 days with peas and still no change. Sam died He was my first fish. When I removed him from the tank the only thing visible on him was a small amount of blood on the bottom rim of each eye, but that could easily been from bumping into something. From everything I read on the net the only thing I could come up with was swim bladder trouble. Caper
  12. Sorry for your losses livingart I certainly do not want to debate anything about the animals the only thing I will say is that yes many kill to survive where as humans ( who are supposed to be more intelligent, compassionate, etc. etc.) will kill for no reason. That's all I wanted to say and of course sorry to livingart for his losses :-? Caper
  13. Soon I promise 8) Caper
  14. Sorry for your losses aaron! Caper
  15. livingart, I thought some fighters will go after other fishies with long fins (guppies, long finned danios). Although I see it is a female that banio has, so is it only male fighters that may/may not go after other fishies with long fins. Welcome baino! Caper
  16. Going to bed late...3:12 a.m. here! Was on my way and thought I'd stop in here for a bit. Caper
  17. Hi & welcome! Sorry I have no experience with ponds but many here do and as you will learn people are always eager to help. Take care & have fun, Caper
  18. The black on their dorsal fins means they are all male???? Oh, and they are all beautiful fishies :bounce: Caper
  19. Could this be a rapheal cat fish? I agree with all above. Anytime fish are gasping at the surface, an indication of low oxygen levels so an added airstone will help. The actual bubbles don't give off more oxygen it's the breaking of the bubbles at the surface causing more water agitation that creates more oxygen. Snails can be carried in on plants. I don't know of other ways they are introducted to a tank someone with more experience can answer that one! When one of my goldfish had red streaks, I just increased the water changes. The redness went. Now just because it worked in this case doesn't mean it will work in all instances of course :-?
  20. Oh I love your stand. I'm in the need of a stand and how I wish I could build one. Great work! Caper
  21. Sorry for your loss! Sounds like he may have had been ill when purchased. Personally I don't always find it easy to see them when they are in a bag to check out any obvious signs that something is not right. I don't know what might have been wrong with him/her but someone else here might recognize the "issues" it had. Within the last week I lost a peppered cory and a tiger barb, no indications of anything wrong until they were dead, darn! Caper
  22. Hi & welcome! You will get lots of help here. As far as resourcing using the net, I usually try to find several areas and compare, in short if one site states one thing and several others state the same I think it's safe to say that it is good advice. But even when browsing the net, I usually still come back here to ask, people who are actually in the hobby I think are one of the best resources. Although, as with anything you may get different opinions (human nature) There is a good explaination on here regarding the "cycle process" but darn I can't find it but maybe someone else can :-? This hobby is a continious learning process I find and one that is very rewarding :bounce: :bounce: Take care & have fun, Caper
  23. Hi & welcome! I don't keep discus but that sure are an awesome fish! Post pics of yours sometime. Take care & have fun, Caper
