  5. Why is it bad to move tanks with the gravel in them? Is it because of the weight? Caper

  10. Awesome photos The fish in the last 4 photos, is it supposed to look like that??? "Singapore Auarama"...just what is that an aquarium??? Just wondering, hoping these beauties are being kept in right conditions from their beauty it looks like they are! Caper
  11. Now as you most know, techinical (along with many other things) I am not! Please bare with me, I know what I want to say here but as usual what I'm thinking and what comes out of my mouth (in this case types) could be entirely different! But, if you have a heater in your tank set at, say 24C when the tank water drops below...the heater comes on till the 24 is reached, correct? So, if you have your heater turned up to say 26C, the heater is going to come on till THAT temp is reached, right? Surpasing the 24, wouldn't it? So, if your heater is coming on more often (that is if heater is working ok) does it matter what temp it is set at because it's just going to come on anyway when the temp drops???? Soooo, wouldn't you only need to consider a bigger heater if your heater is constantly coming on no matter what temp you set it at???? Oh geesh, I don't know if I said what I wanted   Caper
  12. So, any progress yet? Get stand? Tank up? Caper
  13. Seems a rather familiar thread with all species of males....ooops, did I say that! Caper
  14. When I had ottos in with my goldfish I had a heater. Now, there is just the 2 goldfish and I didn't replace the heater when it broke. We are just out of winter here and my goldfish tank pretty much maintained a temp of 70 F, maybe a tad above depending on how high I had to turn on my heat. Now with summer coming (supposedly, having lousy weather  ) the temp in the tank will go up. All I have ever done is add ice packs and fans when the temp rose, not much else I could do. So since you have goldfish I'd say you're in the same situation so to speak as I am, depends on the temp in the tank in correspondence with the season. It makes me said to think that I'm decreasing the life of my goldfish so much so that if anything should happen and I loose both I wouldn't replace them Caper
  15. Ok, just to verify adding terracotta pots can change water parameters, well in this case pH??? Caper
  16.    I love this forum I can always get a laugh and smile put on my face even on worst down days!!! This seems to be a race between those who recommend ways to rid via e.g. loaches and those who recommend SEND TO ME I'LL PAY TO FEED MY DARLING PUFFERS... :bounce:     Caper

  18. Lyndyloo wrote: Hmm, interesting. I don't keep real plants as most know but I do know the "gunk" that can be under the gravel. I usuallly give my tanks a thorough cleaning once a month which includes removing everything from the tank, well everything except fish and gravel in order to give a really good gravel vac. Now I have some ottos so some ornaments will just be moved so they can keep algae on them if any. This is the first time I let it go longer than a month. Of course, kept up regular water changes, change cartridges, rinse bio cartridges and so on. ANYWAY, Lyndyloo the whole point of this 8) was to ask you what do you mean by taking tank apart? Caper (yes, I drive myself crazy sometimes with my rambling, shoot doing again!)

  23. Thanks for the advice livingart the stand will be for my 4' long, 13" wide, 20" high tank. Okay going to use 2x4's. This picture is from Cichlid Forum.com: This is the bottom frame. Now this stand is much larger than mine. But I was wondering: 1) Can I put plywood on the bottom frame like this? If so, do I use nails or screws? Do I need to glue? Thanks, Caper
  24. Ah, you people are so talented, great looking...can't wait to see finished product :bounce: :bounce: Caper
  25. twinkles is this all made with 2x4's??? Caper
