Just a note...do not use any household cleaning agents (soaps and such)...not good at all for fishies! As Lyndyloo said you could use a brush to clean. I have a soft toothbrush and other brushes (for tanks) that only are used for the tanks and nothing else. My buckets...same thing...only used for fishy stuff. Even the cloths I use, only for my tanks and when I wash them I only use hot water no detergents!

I've asked this same question...and yes, it could cause damage. Apparently there is a diaphram and causing restriction could cause damage to it so you should probably untie the knot. My test kit for nitrates doesn't register in the amounts like yours. But, if you are doing regular water changes, missing a week shouldn't hurt. Mustcooktea asked a great question, what amount are you changing? I usually change around 25% a week with the occasional stretching to every 2 weeks. I only have test kits for nitrites, pH, and ammonia and *knocks on wood* are usually ok. What size is your tank?

Hi all! Haven't been here all week...son in hospital. Much to my this morning I found what was left my very first platty, The Little One. I'm :oops: to say that I didn't notice anything all week by the time I'd get home from hospital...all I wanted to do was sleep. I feel really bad that I did't pay more attention, I'd come home feed them watch for a few seconds (rare for me). I did a 25% water change, is there anything else I should do since it looked like the poor little guy was either half eaten or rotted by the time I noticed. Is doing a water change sufficient? Thanks all...and to The Little One...sorry I let you down

Okay...this is Chong now...now that he is bigger any clearer as to what kind of pleco he/she is? Sometimes sections of his body look lighter: sometimes they don't :-?
