    Who is nipping?

Mr. Big died One evening, he didn't seem to be himself at all. It was if he was standing on his tail, I gently put a net by him and he didn't move. Then when he was down on the bottom I managed to put 2 algae discs very close to his mouth, but he didn't go near them. I even tried the zuccini but not interested. Anyway, when I went to work the next morning, I called my son to see how Mr. Big was...and he had died I feel bad...he really was a beautiful, graceful creature
  3. Yes  I saw that Kookie...I mean when you do go to vacuum
  4. Since this is about water thought I'd ask here. Before this week, I was using 10L containers to change my water. I would add (as/directions) the needed water ager. Now I've started to use 4L containers, easier on the back 8). When using the 10L, it required a teaspoon of dechlorinator. So now I try to put 1/2 in each 4L. Is this ok?

    Who is nipping?

Thanks for the info on the algae! Mr. Big wasn't quite himself today, acutally I thought he was dead But I've been testing my water daily, Friday the ammonia was .25 and the nitrites almost .8, so I did a 25% water change. Today, the ammonia not 0 but less then .25, and nitrites .3. I'll keep a daily check until they are right on the button. I did approx 10% water change today. 10% daily would be ok wouldn't it...I mean, enough to help get the levels down but not too much to affect the cycle it's apparently going through???? As for what kind of pleco, I don't know. I've checked the web site I was given but its still hard to say for sure. I didn't want another pleco, but like I said couldn't see him destroyed. What I would like to have had were more ottos but any kind of pleco (ottos too) are hard to get here and have never seen a bristlenose. I was thinking of maybe putting an ad in the same paper where I found my tank...to see if I could give him to somebody with a bigger tank. But then I think another move too soon might be more harmful to him than letting him settle here for a bit...what do you think?

    L059 PLeco

Oh my he sure is pretty
  9. So, when you do vacuum, do you only vacuum the areas that have no plants (open areas :-? ). You don't vacuum in and around them do you? I think Caryl told me that you have to go lightly over where the plants are so that you don't disturb the roots, gee, Caryl I hope I got that right :-?

    Who is nipping?

Oh my...me and plants...I'm not brave enough to try them yet Laura. I hope someday...but then, it took me years to get an aquarium :-? Modern Angel, I can't get any driftwood yet, our winter was just over. I will try when weather warms up a bit more. I've put the algae discs in, but Mr. Big didn't go near them. I tried the zuccini yesterday, same thing, he didn't go near it. But, I'll probably try it again as the first time I used in the other tank for Chong, he didn't eat it the first time either. I don't give Chong zuccini very often. But I'm concerned that there may not be enough algae in the tank for Mr. Big. Any idea how long before algae starts to grow? Here's pics of him, I know he's going to get too big for my tank, but he's so big and beautiful, I just couldn't let him be destroyed. The people had him for 2 years!
  11. The new(used) tank that I bought came with a Tetra Whisper filter. It has 2 sides for the filter media. I was changing the water tonight when I noticed that the water was also flowing out the section where the intake tube goes in. Now I have that problem with one of my other filters (posted in another forum) and despite all the excellent recommendations it is still doing it. Does this mean the filter is not working properly? It has a control knob on the the top of the intake tube & I played with that to see if it would make a difference but I'd almost have to stop the water flow altogether to stop it from flowing down the intake tube section. Another thing, it is loud. Now, I read somewhere here... don't remember where...that a loud filter could mean something is wrong. I think it read trouble with the impeller, not sure! Any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated oh wise fishy people
  12. Thanks Gee, can you ever see the difference Is MS Paint different than the paint that comes with XP???
  13. It was an itsy teeny...yellow polka dot...oh yah, that was a bikini not a fish stand...oops...hehe! Kookie, your tank looks awesome :bounce: :bounce: Now, this is where I get really confused. :-? :-? How do you vacuum when you have all that plant growth? Or do you need to vacuum at all? Or do you just syphon the water out for changes?
  14. Good one Jude       I didn't know that you could use it to kill algae either! Yes, I to read somewhere in the salt water section about them using it, but darn, I didn't think it was for killing algae...sorry, I forget stompa...don't know if I missed a post of yours or not (haven't been on for a few days, hurt my back!) but why do you want to treat your tank for algae???

  17. Hi there & welcome! Nice pics This is a great site...I'm sure you'll enjoy being here :bounce: :bounce: Take care, Caper Just on the pic thing...when you upload a pic in photobucket and hit edit, at the top of the pic it reads So, this is a good size right? I'm always nervous that pics will be too big...I tried reducing by half on that sight, but the pic didn't look any different.

  19. From what I learned here, and has already been said...neons can be snack for angelfish. You might get another tank...hehe MTS...for your angels. I'd keep a close on him/her and watch for any changes (physical). Is this neon new to the tank or did they all come with the tank?

    Who is nipping?

Ah...anybody??? I turned my light in really early today hoping that this will cause the algae to grow, ah...am I right, or will I just end up with bad water??? I tested the water again today in the tank I bought: ammonia - I'd say just about 0 now, just a tad darker than the card nitrates - .1 pH - well if I hold the tube right on the white of the test card it looks almost 7.6, if I hold it out a bit more towards 7.2 - something I'm thinking maybe somewhere in between - which is what my water in the other 2 tanks test are awlays the same. I did 25% water change and changed the white/carbon filter. I read the box at Walmart for one of these filters & I was right the black is the bio filter.
  23. Yes, that was excellent article...thanks Is the picture in the article a female holding her eggs?  How do they get there?
