  1. haha, check out "fish tricks" on Youtube sometime! there are little netball, soccer , hoops and all sorts of little sporting accessories, which people have trained their fish to "play" Sorry about your little clown going carpet surfing that is so sad
  2. Thanks for putting us (well me anyhow, LOL) out of misery before you run away on holiday! It always looks easy, afterwards! Cute fish. Had not noticed those before.... Have a nice holiday.
  3. oooh you like to put up the stinkers! rng ( it is a word, refer to algebra )
  4. well I am stumped... I thought it is a tiger tetra, but that is the same thing as a wolf fish. That is the problem with common names... and even the scientific ones can get confusing too! You ARE going to show us a picture of this mysterious fish when you are done torturing us, aren't you?
  5. Oh, No! I don't think I've ever heard of a freshwater seahorse. Please don't (anyone!) try to keep seahorses in freshwater. They can tolerate a short "dip" in freshwater, which is handy at times to rid them of some sorts of external parasites, but as a rule they are strictly Saltwater fish. Apparently the NZ Potbelly are some of the most tolerant to salinity changes though, and can be found in estuaries that have a bit of SG swing. They are also some of the strongest swimmers. If you look at different seahorse pictures, you might notice NZ potbelly's dorsal fins are much larger compared to many other varieties. Lele "fashion model" is a tropical kuda; there are some potbelly pics around on the site if you search... Glad you enjoyed the pics; thanks!
  6. great shots! wow, that 2nd one REally sez "don't mess with me!"
  7. Whetu, I have been enjoying the mulled wine! but dangit, I caught a cold so have had to switch to homemade 'Lemsips' hot water, honey, lemon... and whiskey! or rum will even do in a pinch All the recipes sound so good... you know they say "feed a cold..." I need someone to cook for me!
  8. OK, now I think I'm confusing myself... but Tigerfish?
  9. awe shucks.. and Thank You! ( and thank goodness for digital!) I did not comment on anyone's in particular cuz I am enjoying them ALL! There are some fab shots and great names & something special about each one (must be cuz their owners luv em so! 8) )
  10. Introducing "The Barnacle" Barnie is our 11 year old Foxy/JackX and this is what he thinks of aquariums ... And this is Really what he would like to do to my real seahorses! Who, me???! ....................... Grrrr!!............................. Crunch!! He likes to dig... Run... and hunt possums!! LOL, ya asked for pics!!!yep that is one spoiled dawg. I will abstain from posting the hunting pics, for the sensitive ones. * does anyone know the Code to hide/censor/blackout pics & wording, so only people that wish to look may do so? something about "spoilers" but I forget how!* PS, :bounce: I think we've met Arfie! LOL, I recognise some pets before theri owners!

    So upset

Oh sorry sorry to hear the bad news . that really sucks! If power outages are a regular occurance in your area, I have heard battery operated air bubblers are a cheap investment, or even better running your equipment thru a UPS Backup ( same as for computers) can be a big inusrance policy.... no good after the fact, but FWIW something to think of for the future...
  13. grrr! my connection sux... sorry for the double-post Again
  14. Yes, Well done! The top one is also a male, though it can't be seen clearly in the picture; Lele, our sole model for the fashion show is the female, in the middle.
  15. Thanks for the info I guess it 'll have to wait until I get over my potbelly seahorsing and marines. Cannibalise their chiller and give FW a go.. oh! but i just remembered I have some "ice probes" laying around.. I Could do another tank! hubby is gonna kill me! BTW that is an excellent pic!
  16. It sounds like you already have the sizing sussed, but FWIW to anyone else: as stated earlier,it all depends on how much pulldown , speed of flow, and water volume for sizing... There is a handy page where you can plug in you numbers and will tell you the appropriate size here--> http://www.jbjlighting.com/prod_chiller_size.asp Another thing to be careful about when shopping is making sure the model you get has a thermostat that actually goes down to your desired temp. I thought I'd found some Deals, but then learned they were just for cooling tropical tanks to a reasonable level, and did not have control over the temp range I needed for my cold/temperate tank. As far as Brands go, like other things we are a bit at the mercy of what is available here, unless you can & want to risk shopping overseas. Afrikan, what brands have you seen/been looking at? When I was shopping around a year ago I found Hailea were readily available here, and Tecos could be ordered in. I also heard Aqua-one might be bringing some in... The other thing I learned is regardless what the brand/parent company, most units or most of the componentry is made in China. So, the big shopping decision might not only be what brand, but who to buy from. A shop/distributor that will back their products if there are any concerns about servicing, warranty, replacement etc... some shops are great when a problem arises, and some just want to sell more product. I decided to "risk it" and ended up getting a Unistar 300 for $AU550. It is very quiet, does a good job and have had no problems. ( but I've only had it 9 months) MODEL : Unistar MCC-UNI-300 FLOW : max 900L/pHr REFRIGERANT : 134a POWER : one tenth HP DIMENSIONS : 30 x 32 x 35 cm WEIGHT : 13.5Kg TANK SUIT : Any size up to 600Litres??!! WARRANTY : 12months (porbably useless in my case) As a guide for this chiller, the site states pull down temps of: 500Litre tank up to 7degrees celsius. 300Litre tank temperature down by up to 10degrees celsius. 100Litre tank up to 15degrees celsius. 17. I thought ya meant the ponies but I never heard that term before. I was so curious I had to go look up the origin. Convoluted from the driving commands, gee & haw... well there we go,learn something new every day. Thanks!
  18. LOL I took some friends for a bushwalk one night to see the gloworms. We spotted beady little red eyes in the creek, so friend dipped a finger in and the koura latched on tightly... made him squeal like a little girl until he could get it off; hahahaha. I don't think my friend will offer to be the bait again, so guess i better try the downstream netting method. But, before I "take the plunge" a few more questions. What is the optimal pH and temperature to keep em happy?
