  1. narcotic is Dixon American? spelling...
  2. LOL, that is hilarious!... And isn't it great to have such talented people willing to help out?! What an excellent photo! you were looking for a fix/help, but thanks for sharing it;
  3. Wow, wish I'd heard about this before! ya mean those strange looks are avoidable? LOL *have you seen that crazy lady feeding her Invisible fish* So now I'm curious, how long can nitrifying bacteria colonies survive/hibernate without being fed? do you mean a weekly feed will suffice until ready to stock? or how often? filing away useful info for future use... Gosh, there really is no excuse not to get a tank fully cycled and ready to go ahead of time, aye?...
  4. "Project Hippocampus, based in Mar Menor, south-east Spain, has been running a programme for two years to identify and tag seahorses in an attempt to learn more about the creatures" slideshow here--> http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/in_pictures/7796425.stm Beautiful videoography "Dance of a Seadragon" http://news.bbc.co.uk/earth/hi/earth_news/newsid_8330000/8330705.stm

  7. Most definitely!! LOL, you should read LA's bristleworm thread...http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=40480&p=441502&hilit=blue#p441502
  8. ?????? eh? um, I can tell the difference. It was entire, the meat all there, not a broken antennae or anything. that's why I thought it so peculiar!!
  9. LOL, I like your explanation the best Caryl :lol: Eeeeeek!Aliens!
  10. Wow, and I feel guilty if I go 2 weeks without a WC!... I was not trying to start another political thread, but was genuinely concerned about how people on the North Shore with saltwater tanks are managing, and of course also concerned the unknown "whatever" does not creep further afield. I went to the beach this arvo and found a perfect looking juvenile crayfish, entire, completely undamaged (except for being dead ) on the beach....
  11. Thanks LA, that is reassuring. Still, I wonder what the people who normally fill up @ the Taka boatramp are doing...
  12. How are people who normally collect natural sea water coping with their water changes? Switched to mixing salt? or travelling to collect water from different areas? or just risking it? I am confused about the toxin reports; they don't seem very conclusive or have a great explanation yet! or did I miss something? I'm not in Auckland, but it's not that far away either... currents etc. it would be nice to know what is really going on. OK, seaslugs are toxic. have they not always been? Are the pet posionings just due to extra detritus washed up after so many big storms? I always find dead penguins & fish (including puffers) after storms. Though I did see a dead baby seal this time too... So, the fish, slugs, octopii that carry the toxin ingest it from eating algae that contains the bacteria which create the toxin. Have I got that right?
  13. LOL, that is hilarious and a very beautiful shot & bird, LA.
  14. Yowch!!! always pays to have some vinegar around.... reminds me of a time on the west coast, hoping for surf but no good... so mucking about making beach sculptures. Warned friend Not to mess with or even touch those BLUE things!!! started on our way and had some munchy stuff in the car; He says "wow! are these supposed to be so Spicy?!" uh, no?! tend to ignore a bit, cuz he's a "complainer" :roll: but then extended complaints and "hey! do my lips LOOK swollen?" yikes!!!! yes, the silly git played with bluebottles ;didn't seem to hurt hands, but the lips sure felt the effect! The Funky Fish thought our request for 2 beers and a bowl of vinegar a bit odd! It did seem to help though....

    name my rooster

    Ya seen the animated movie "Chicken Run" ? (by same creators of Wallace & Grommit) The Star was named "Rocky" ... unfortunately, it is Mel Gibsons voice... Considering the hatching success, how about morphing a well know Kiwi name? A.J. Hatch-it !

    Sea horses!

    Sounds like those were most likely Tropical; either Kuda (which tends to be a bit of a "catch-all") or Taieneroptus (sp?) My "Kuda" were black, but would turn white & black when flirting, and turned a peachy orange when I tried a different feeding station, and have now mostly been yellow... I think I made an old thread here somewhere.... called Lele's Fashion Show Oh, here it is--> http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=32063&hilit=lele%27s+fashion+show

    *drums fingers, waiting* You know there is now an obligation to return to that store, take pics and gather all info (species, age, sex, size, source, diet, etc.) related to these SHs? LOL :bounce:
  18. Oops, double-post. sorry! It's been snowing... the hut on the 6th...
  19. Ummm, yeh, & I am the last surviving member of the original Ruapehu Ski Club! LOL just kidding! I just had to take a photo of the historic hut. I think it's classic and am glad they did not allow it to be torn down. I didn't know at 1st why they call that area "Hut Flat" dohh! :roll: I never did get to see the hut last year, as it was completely buried in snow...
  20. bummer about the flu! yeh, hubby is on his way down there Again right now, the stinker :roll: not to worry, early days yet, there will be more for us! :bounce:
