  1. I'm no help, but am interested to see what you come up with! It would be great if one could purchase zooplankton & rots to feed out.
  2. A lot of shopowners are more interested in selling another product and making more money rather than spending their time chasing up a warranty for nothing... never mind it leaves a bad impression on The Customer! Try contacting the distributor. good luck! Tracey Burgess Office Manager Kong’s (NZ) Limited 52 Glenlyon Avenue Greerton, Tauranga New Zealand Tel: +64 (07) 571 2188 Fax: 0800 329 566 www.kongs.co.nz
  3. OK, I've had the parts but am only just sick enough of the fish bin, LOL, and have some time now to actually try fitting the parts.... Vinson!!!! OK, so I was panicking, LOL  edit out yesterdays rambling! The original only had 2 o-rings securely fitted, and once I removed them could see they didn't even match in size! I wonder if this was a returned product? It didn't come in a box... I Hate having "extra" parts, so used all 4 o-rings like Vin said, in the most probable places ... I've learned there are several other seals that could use replacing too. the main housing, the impeller housing and the purge valve... Long story short- It's all good now! :bounce: Cheers!
  4. Wow, sorry to hear about your tank. Glad your insurance will cover it! Just curious, have you been contacting your local dealer or the national distributor? I was so pleased when they replaced my glass, and doubt it cost them much. I am still using the old hood & cover. I had looked into ordering a custom tank. ( but really couldn't afford it) Due to the tall height, I was informed the tank would have to be built using thicker than standard glass. That, with the comment above convinces me that am the added height without sufficient glass thickness is the main problem; add in any thinner spots while creating the curve and any problems with the annealing..... *blammo!* so I guess I am still a little nervous about another rupture... However, I still believe overall Aquaone has good value for $ and they did back up their product in my case; though with the taller tanks, there could be a glass specification/ design issue which definitely needs addressing.
  5. Vinson, thank you so much for explaining how to do that!!! I didn't have a clue what to do... I just know it was coming from the cord and not the top of the taps, cuz I sat there for ages staring & waiting for moisture to appear after drying thoroughly with paper towels , LOL! So, I went to town and they actually had the parts. My local shop charged me $15 though ... grrr Hope it does the trick; will let you know later. Thanks again!
  6. Thanks for all the suggestions! I keep thoroughly drying Everything with papertowelling, trying to trace where it is actually coming from... It does not appear to be from the hoses or taps, but if I can get replacements it is definitely worth a shot! the only place I see any weeping is where the electric cord comes out of the lid! and maybe a seam in that same area , the "alcove" not really handles but the hole which sorta acts as a handhold... water collects there before dripping down I'll attach a pic to show where I mean...
  7. Oh shucks, I wasn't planning on the spend-up just now.... and then there is the dilemma what model to replace it with?!!!! another "cheapy" or something better?.... ahhhhhhhh, I sure opened 'a can o worms' by deciding to move. shoulda left em in the rubbertub a while longer.... ah well... thanks conch
  8. I finally finished re-urethaning my cabinet and decided last night to finally set up my replacement tank. To make the move from the Rubbermaid tub quick & easy, and not wanting to "upset" things too much, I didn't even open the lid on my canister, a 2 year old Via Aqua 300 (800lph). I just shut the valves, undid hoses, moved it and chiller to new tank, reconnected hoses and thought everything was sweeeeeeeet. kicked back with a glass of wine in celebration of being able to actually view my seahorses again...... an hour later, noticed a small puddle. mopped up, later another puddle. Well, perhaps the seal got disturbed in the move? so I opened th lid and cleaned around the rubber seal and the rim and reseated everything, mopped up & started up again.... hehehe ; might as well have another glass . 2 hours later another puddle  actually, I think i went thru the procedure twice ... Too tired by this time, so placed in fish bin and left running overnight. It lost about 1- 1.5 litres overnight. So, what else can I try or do?! Is it time for a new canister? :-?
  9. Thanks for the link Heaps of good info over there, but thought I'd check here too as it's always nice to share experience and techniques being used "closer to home" and particular to H. Abdominalis. Obviously being able to feed the fry is a main concern, but I am also concerned about nursery tank size, type, flow, any special hitching or water issues. Could I get away with using one of the smaller Aquaone type tanks or should I get a different set-up? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention his pouch is not like an egg when flirting, but definitely darkened! eeeek! OK, deep breath, don't panic, back to BS, greenwater practice, etc.etc...
  10. Thanks All!! I almost hope it is false alarm, but he IS FAT and not buoyant (but surprisingly not gone reclusive) so just to be safe, want to be prepared! I'd read up a bit when I 1st got the SH's but then went all this time so it is time to brush-up/ cram! I have a BS hatcher and had practiced a bit some time ago... but I'll make sure and get some practice in ASAP. Which brings up more questions: How many of you bother decapsulating your BS eggs before hatching? I am also concerned about hydroids. I've only ever used natural seawater for my tanks... For the BS hatching/and nursery tank, would you suggest pre-treating the water. What do you use? Cheers!
  11. After 3 years and heaps of flirting, I finally think Hehorse might actually be pregnant! How many fellow hobbiests have been successful in this dept? Any tips and advice on rearing the fry would be much appreciated.
  12. thanks for that input SHmad; ya, I was blown away by how much gunk accumulated after 2 years in that tank, even with my regular vacuuming & cleaning! I am going to try the BB and if we really don't like the totally bare, can add a thin layer of new sand later...
  13. hey lf, I sent ya pm so we can have a proper chat sometime I only have a million Q's for ya like, how long have you had SH's?... Mine are still fine in the tub but not there for too much longer and yep, will definitely keep ya posted1
  14. ?? I dunno what is that? And I am still a little nervous about setting up again & the strength of rounded corners. I do not need a repeat event! *paranoid* Is there a way to take a poll here? I'd like to find out how many breakages/ leaks people have had... with these new curved jobbies vs. old fashioned siliconed corners.
  15. Thanks Conch! I'm still reading page 1.... Keep in mind, in contrast to many of the reefy types, my SH tank has very low flow, like 4X....I was shocked at the amount of black goo & detritus, especially from areas beneath LR, when I was scooping the sand from the broken tank! oh! and all the bristleworms & other various sorts!!!!
  16. Hi, I'm curious who has what out there, and your opinions on the pros & cons and would like info about any related issues I might not be aware of. So, I'm "on the fence" and trying to weigh the benefits of each type... I'm psyching myself up to move my seahorses out of their lovely Rubbermaid tub after a full month in their temporary home. (due to tank failure) Prior to this, their tank has always had an inch or 2 of crushed shell/sand as substrate. However, staring at the bucketfull which I am sure will be very unpleasant and putrid after sitting there stewing for a month, I'm not exactly looking forward to washing & recycling it as I've done so before; I am wondering if I might not be better off going with a bare-bottomed tank this time around. I have kinda gotten used to the bare bottom in their tub and it has seemed so much easier to see exactly where & how much gunk is accumulating, and to clean it up. With the liverock, macro, seahorses, cleanup crew and canister filter & chiller running, all my basic water parameters have been testing the same as normal. Whaddya think?
  17. Oh, I missed yer update! Am so glad you separated out the rocks with aiptasia. The odd one is not going to do too much immediate harm, but you don't want them to flourish and constantly sting your SH's. They can be such as nuisance and might keep popping up for a while. Joes juice is good, if ya get them to fully injest it. At one point I got sick of chasing little sprouted babies and stalks that didn't quite get nuked and would grow back, that I resorted to breaking/ chipping off parts of LR ! sometimes even that didn't work! some of their stalks go way deep into the crevices, so you have to remove or kill the Entire thing. Glad to hear things are going well now. Too bad that bigger tank didn't show up... ah well, something to look forward to. Looking forward 2 da pics
  18. Yay! :bounce: I contacted the distributor directly and am happy to report Aquaone has come through and is replacing my tank, even though it is well beyond the 1 year normal guarantee period. So, even though still a little "tank- shy" (can you believe I was even contemplating re-homing my seahorses?!!) I am going to give it another go. Now that is customer service! Thanks Aquaone! 8) despite earlier reccomendations, I did not take the advice about "dropping a rock" *blush*, so my insurance did not cover anything so a big fat *raspberry* to them! "normal wear & tear" what a pile of *&^! Yes, time to change providers & double-check the small print and make sure I'll be covered in future!

Yah, that is a long drive... & awe shucks!!! My friend ( an ex marine biologist) was just down there for the 1/2 ironman... maybe we could've had a delivery! I think there is a longboard surf event there next week... know anyone going down for that? Re: pics; thanks for the compliment My SH's are doing OK, though my hubby is getting annoyed with the big ugly rubbermaid tub out in the garage... I dunno if you saw, but my tank broke!! There is a thread about it here-->http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/tank-failure-anyone-else-out-there-have-it-happen-vt26650.html I am even thinking of parting with them; but don't get your hopes up too much yet! I am just so attached & am finding it difficult to give up... Perhaps we could meet up sometime and I could see your tank & set-up?
  20. Hi, wasn't sure where to post this, but....... I am passing on an unusual request. This nice kid on another forum REALLY wants his Uncle's fish to win. It would be fun to see a fishy friend win, instead of the usual furry critters (though I love 'em all!) Any how, here is his note and link to vote for Pedro: Here is a link to some related pics : http://www.bollmoraakvarieklubb.org/artiklar/piraya/piraya.htm

  22. :bounce: any news or pics ? must see SH's!!
  23. :bounce: so, howz that new tank & your SH's going?
  24. Hi, I believe all we have are H. Abdominalis and H. Kuda .... but would love to hear if I am wrong and there are any others!! I would love to have some of the breviceps or other dwarf varieties someday...
  25. Hey, ScubaSam!! Thanks for your kind offer as well. I tried replying to your PM, but for some strange reason they're stuck in the "outbox" rather than getting sent.... seems I am having technical difficulties in all areas, LOL!
