  1. Any chance of a diagram of this or picture if you still have the tank so I can show my husband and hopefully he can help me make it Sounds like an awesome idea. Really got me thinking. Cheers
  2. Well I got him yesterday and I adore him. Hoping to breed him with the blue female that I have. He isn't fully flaring but hes either a round tail or half moon. Hes still a little beaten up from the trip to the lfs then my house but I am hoping that over time and with some tender loving care he will come right again and be even better looking to the females Cheers http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y116/p ... edited.jpg
  3. Awesome. Just that getting glass done for a 3-4 ft tank is still going to cost me around the $90 mark which is just a bit much for right now. The jars that I was looking at were at least 1ltr each. This was at the $2 shop so very easy to get bulk. I am hoping that when I get my fish room (spare room) sorted that it will be at a maintained temp so then I can put the cookie jars in there with out the required heater. Just that to me the jars provide more space than the stick to the tank betta dividers. Cheers though for your replys
  4. Hey there I was wanting to know if perspecs is ok to make tanks out of? Reaons for this is that I was going to make a tank up with a number of dividers to house the male bettas (if I manage to breed them!! lol) I was thinking that with it being perspecs that we can drill holes in it to allow for water current. How quickly would perspecs go off? (like yellow and crack/brittle). Its just to house the male bettas as I am then able to offer them more space as I don't agree with jaring but if this doesn't work then I kinda have no choice hehe Cheers

    Fin Rot??

Yeah I know but I noticed today that the pleco has a red edge to one of its side fins So I have only put a half dose of melafix in (80ltr tank so 1 5ml dose per 40ltrs) I am to repeat this for 3 days so I shall see how it goes. So far no other fish are showing signs of fin rot. I have removed all thoes that were and culled them. Horrible

    Fin Rot??

I think I have suspect fin rot in my new tank. I noticed yesterday that the fishes fins were clamped to a point so I put them into an isolation tank with some malachite green (what the lfs gave me for pintail in my guppy fry worked well) But this morning many of them are dead and the ones that are still alive now have a puffy white edge on their tails and fins. For the rest of the tank I have guppies, 2 wcmm's and 1 sailfin (redspot) plec. My main consern is the plec. Would treating the tank with salt and malafix harm it at all or would I be safe? The rest of the fish in the tank seem fine but I want to be sure incase there is still traces of it in the water. Cheers

    Sandy bottom??

I have found that sand can be a bit annoying at times because my bn's loved digging it up so the tank was always cloudy and I was often having ammonia spikes because of it. But others may find it easy to use. Then again this was in a small 22ltr tank so I don't know how it would go in a large 2-3ft tank. Trial and Error I guess
  8. AWESOME!!!!! Thats one beautiful boy you got there. I hope to get myself a C/Tail betta very soon and breed it. I soo can't wait. That just proves that what my LFS said about CT bettas is bullshit!! They are good quality and very beautiful fish!! **SOOOO EXCITED!!*** :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
  9. Still no harm in trying. You just never know.
  10. Females genitalia is often flat with the body while Males will have a noticable bump. This info is at planetcatfish.com but unfortunatly I can't copy and paste due to copyright at the site. Cheers I to thought that maybe with a large tank that is pretty deep you might be able to make up a fiberglass fake mud bank with holes already created. If you are confident in using soil in your tank as substrate add a little bit into each hole. I have no idea at what size they are capable of breeding but I have just got myself my first sailfin plec and I think its totaly awesome! But I am to scared to pick it up lol I have never liked handling big fish! hehehe

  12. As soon as I am able to empty out my cold water marine tank I will have room to house at least two differnt sort as I will divide it. Cheers
  13. hehehehehe well now lets see. 1 15ltr hospital/Q tank 1 22ltr albino & snakeskin tank 2 90ltr tall 2ft tanks (1 divided with misc guppies and peppered corys, other has solid half black guppies and bn's breeding) 1 75ltr 2.5ft tank (cold water marine soon to be emptyed) and soon to get: 1 3ft tank which will have all fish available for sale So yeah my little setup is comming along nicely
  14. unfortunatly we don't have any bricks/blocks here and I would have to go and buy some plywood or something to put the tank on. Thats why I am asking if its ok on the floor. I know that cleaning will be a bit difficult but its not going to be there for ever lol Just intill I can get a stand of some form for it Cheers again
  15. awesome. Thanks for the advice
  16. Hi there As topic says. I just got me a 3ft tank which is comming with some fish in it. I was wondering will this be ok on the floor as I don't have a cabinet or stand for this (yet). It will be in the spare room (keeps the kids out since it will be so low) Cheers

    Clove Oil

Yes Sharn thats just it. For some people they have a lot of fish but there is often the odd one that sticks out and becomes their fave due to personality and character. Chopping your beloved fish's head off is just not an option and is also difficult for thoes of you that have much larger fish and trying to hold it still while you smash its brain with a hammer can get a bit sickening so its just another option for thoes that have bigger fish (put it in a bucket with so much clove oil). So anyone willing to give this a go when a fish or two become sick (lets hope they don't but the truth is there are going to be some eventually) let us know how you get on. Cheers

    Clove Oil

no it doesn't say how long for. It has it as a little highlighted section in the book and thats it. Nothing more mentioned about it. I am guessing that it would be as soon as you notice that the gills are no longer moving. If anyone has some clove oil and when they next have to cull off a fish could they consider this and let us know what happened? This could be an article added to the next Aquarium World book that caryl does if anyone is willing to try it out (not on any healthy fish of cause) and write an article about it. As to what size fish it was, how long it took to show that it had passed or fully asleep etc. Its just another option as mentioned before for thoes who don't feel comfortable throwing their beloved fishies onto the hard floor. Cheers

    Clove Oil

ok I have a book out from the library at the moment called Mini Encyclopedia, The Tropical Aquarium by Gina Sandford. It has in here the following: Disposing of sick fish humanely Fill a bowl with a litre of water from the aquarium and mix in a minimum of 10 drops of clove oil before putting in the affected fish. So yes I also agree that for thoes that find it difficult to cut/smash or throw their beloved fish into concret this is another way for doing it. Cheers
  20. The Silicone that I use is Selleys Glass Silicone Sealant (clear) for windows and aquariums* from back of lable *Aquariums: Allow to fully cure for 7 days. Prior to usage, thoroughly wash out with water, drain and refill before introducing fish. Suitable for constructiong and repairing small aquariums. Specialist design required for large tanks. I have used this to reseal the 2.5ft tank that I got as the seal was lifting away from the glass and I didn't want to take my chances of fulling up so I resealed it. No probs so far I got this for about $8 from Mega Mitre 10 store. Hope that helps
  21. Well husband has decided on the peppered corys so tomorrow I will take back the other two and get two peppered MRSkz do you still have peppered corys? Have yours managed to breed? Would you be willing to sell them or swap for 1 bronze and 1 albino? Cheers
  22. yeah I am thinking of taking two back and only sticking to the one species. I will see which one my husband prefers I like them all in turn but I think I will stick with just the one. Cheers
  23. Well going on another post in here about sexing, a V shape body means male and a Y shape is female. Going on that line my albino and bronze are both male and the peppered is female. I also read about MRSkz and her pepper and albino laying eggs but the bristlenose got into them and she managed to save a few but they didn't hatch. Has anyone else managed to breed a pepper with a bronze or albino? Would it be best for me to take the pepper back and try to get a female bronze or albino or take the other two back and try to get male peppers? Cheers
  24. hmmm if that is the case then I might take the peppered one back and get another bronze or albino Cheers for that.
  25. Hi there. I got one bronze, one peppered and one albino. I was told that they would breed regardless of what type they were (only if I had a male and female but are apparently to younge to tell yet) Is this true? Or do they only stick to their own kind? Like peppered with peppered? Also is there any way of telling the sex somehow? I have been told about their dorsal fin being more pointed if male and more rounded if male but in the tanks at the LFS they all looked the same so was wondering if there are any other ways of telling. Cheers
